so anyone droid owners have the upgrade to 2.0.1? ubknown to me, my update came tonight.[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 2:05 AM. Reason : verizon]
12/10/2009 1:50:02 AM
yea seems faster, not sure i like the new unlock screen better though
12/10/2009 9:01:04 PM
feels appreciably faster to me, especially when manipulating the home screen and notification bar.^ totally agree, i damn near missed a phone call from the vet today because i didn't know what the hell to do with the new buttons.
12/10/2009 9:03:36 PM
still no update here but i dont care enough to do it manually
12/10/2009 9:27:16 PM
Has anybody with an Eris gotten an update?
12/11/2009 10:42:46 AM
the update broke my search box, it types in the bullets that you usually see in a password text field but, it does seem a lot more responsive when switching between apps or on the home screens
12/11/2009 11:22:24 AM
Updated this morning. My search box works fine, but it doesn't dock against the notification bar anymore.Definitely more responsive.

Alot of google employers have the "google phone" and say it's "a sex beast" "an iphone with beautify steriods". I'm not if it is actually the Passion or not though..http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/11/google-phone-zomg/
12/12/2009 11:15:39 AM
^^ design element, not a bug

I wish Sprint had a better offering of Droid Phones. Looks like the Hero might be my best bet. Anyone know if sprint will have new Droid phones coming out in the near future?
12/12/2009 2:21:14 PM
moto droid, software updated... the best phone i've owned out of our lineup
12/12/2009 2:39:16 PM
I just got a samsung moment with sprint today. Been playing with it so far and am loving it. The qwerty keyboard is what made me choose it over the hero; that and the extra ounce
12/12/2009 5:53:22 PM
^ interested to hear your thoughts after a few days of use. Keep me informed!

Google announces the Nexus One:http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5BC04620091213?type=technologyNewsI like how they are going to sell it directly, unlocked. Probably more expensive up front but a refreshing way of doing business nonetheless.
12/12/2009 11:08:37 PM
Ok, i've mentioned this before, but how the heck are you supposed to choose between all these phones now? Maybe because i'm still part of the era with the flip phone and three letters put number on your keypad (even though I still don't text), but it just seems overwhelming.
12/13/2009 10:16:48 AM
My Eris got the update today. Seems *slightly* more responsive now (primarily the email widget & going from the email widget to the actual inbox). Thought it was freezing on the lock screen until I realized that I now have to grab the actual bar showing the time & drag it down instead of being able to drag down from anywhere on the screen before. That part is kinda annoying. Hopefully that'll change whenever they finally do the 2.0/2.1 update.

Looks like the Nexus One is the Dragon that was posted a while back. http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/13/google-phone-makes-first-twitter-appearance/
12/13/2009 5:15:17 PM
hardware wise its faster than the droid but it sure ain't prettier, it's looks more kid friendly
12/13/2009 7:18:04 PM
lol. The droid is prettier? what are you smoking. I'm not a fan of the squarish look or lip on the droid.v.
12/13/2009 7:24:16 PM
me thinks a trip to yon verizon for a return of said droid is in order
12/13/2009 7:54:40 PM
guess i stand alone, im not a fan of the look
12/13/2009 8:07:16 PM
while I don't think the Nexus is really attractive or ground breaking in design, pretty much anything is more attractive than the Droid imo.
12/13/2009 8:48:31 PM
I like the droid except for a few minor things and am not a fan at all of only three home screens and the only way to wake up the stupid thing is by pressing the power button. Not exactly in a ergonomically good place for holding the phone.
12/14/2009 12:00:36 AM
it looks fine, but its not a "sexy beast" compared to the iPhone, as the early user comments suggest
12/14/2009 12:28:21 AM
it's nice to see the iPhone finally have a worthy competitor. maybe now people will stop suing AT&T for holding a "monopoly".
12/14/2009 12:34:33 AM
mmmm... snapdragon. It may be time for me to switch over to android if google's price is sub $400 w/o a contract

2.1 hacked to Droidhttp://www.engadget.com/2009/12/14/android-2-1-ported-to-droid-no-one-feigns-surprise/

NWell no I like android just fine. I really like all the customization I can do. I found panda home which is free and does not require rooting. Allows for as many home screens as I want and much more. While I like the droid a lot I do wish you could activate the unlock screen with the camera button. Now that I can have multiple pages I like it a lot more. Still not sure I need a real keyboard but it is nice to have.

12/15/2009 7:46:39 PM
Yeah I know, I have one, I just don't like the location of that button and that nothing else will get the unlock screen to appear. And trust me I know how small of a thing that is and over all I the droid
12/15/2009 8:41:30 PM
first video of Nexus one.. nothing that spectacularhttp://www.engadget.com/2009/12/15/nexus-one-finally-caught-on-video-alongside-its-packaging/Also, Verizon is doing another BOGO deal on Droid and Eris starting today thru Dec. 24. I hope that means a HTC Passion phone will be out late January.
12/15/2009 9:10:31 PM
So...question.If one phone (out of the 2 on our family plan) is eligible for an upgrade, and we do the BOGO deal...what happens?Am I able to simply port the number over to the other phone? Will they consider it "breaking the contract" and charge that ridiculous $350.00 fee? Or is it something I need to go to a store/call the customer service about?
12/15/2009 10:02:04 PM
going to my second android conference cohosted by htc and my company tomorrow in the past few months - first one we all got G1s - they said we'll be getting a newer phone tomorrow - let's hope for the nexus one
12/15/2009 10:03:50 PM
You would have to open another line if only one is eligible for upgrade. You could then have them flip the phones between the new line and the one that wasn't eligible.
12/15/2009 10:24:38 PM
Played with the nexus on Friday night- I have to say I'm very impressed! Only got about 5 minutes of usage, but very impressed with the screen.
12/15/2009 10:37:24 PM
first droid paid fees to lucasarts when i just assumed droid is short for android (and who knows if google is paying a license fee for that to someone)now the nexus one is going to have to settle with philip k. dick's daughter because nexus one is similar to nexus-6 from "do androids dream of electric sheep" and "blade runner" famei don't see it but whatever.
12/15/2009 10:51:49 PM
^^ do you have any additional details about it? any rumors around the office?

Anyone know any good android skd tutorials? I'm coming from .net

Google employees that were so excited to be given free Nexus Ones find out that the phone was their Christmas bonus, hilarioushttp://gizmodo.com/5427390/the-google-phones-alter-ego-a-lame-christmas-bonus
12/16/2009 1:31:08 AM
12/16/2009 11:51:39 AM
A bonus is a *bonus*, not a salary. They should be happy they're getting anything at all, especially since it happens to be an advanced piece of pre-release technology. People will complain about anything, amazing.
12/16/2009 12:08:35 PM
Wonder how much the Nexus will be. GSM unlocked? I might have to get one and use it along side my iphone. See how it is.
12/16/2009 12:18:32 PM
^ I heard it will be $199
12/16/2009 12:37:41 PM
^i'm assuming that's with a contract. I'm wondering what the regular cost will be if i want to get one and use it on my existing AT&T contract alongside my iphone.
12/16/2009 12:41:40 PM
12/16/2009 1:48:19 PM
^^ yeah it's with the contract. I don't know how much the retain value with be without the contract.
