Just saw the menu for Raleigh times' beer dinner wednesday the week of beerfest... holy shit. 3 courses, 3 flights, and every single beer is limited in release. They are opening up all 8 keg lines and pouring 4 from the bottle for a total of 4 beers per course. Included are kegs of hopslam, KBS, and a couple other bourbon barrel aged beers to finish.

I've been on a real Rogue kick recently. Had the Hazelnut Brown Nectar this weekend, bought it at Peace St. Market. Holy shit was that a deliciously smooth and drinkable beer. Sweet, complex smell and a gorgeous orange tinted brown color. 10/10 would purchase/drink again.[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 11:33 AM. Reason : .]

I'm officially over Fat TireI rarely drink less than 4 beers at one time, and the biscuit like taste of it makes more than 1 or 2 a burden

i always kinda wondered how that was donemost standard yeasts peter out wayyyyyyy before that i like to go high gravity with my brewing, but use high gravity yeasts... however, ive never gone over like 18.5% abv.

Rogue's Hazelnut Brown has been a favorite beer of mine for years. Yummy.
4/12/2010 2:40:17 PM
^^Yeah I think all the beers that are above 20% ABV or so end up using some form of distillation. [Edited on April 12, 2010 at 2:41 PM. Reason : .]

I just killed off 4 Yuengling Bocks... I think I need some food now besides a bunch of beef jerky & carrots
4/12/2010 10:33:16 PM
^I dunno man, that sounds pretty substantive to me, haha. Having a Founders Centennial IPA, which is fantastic as usual.

picked up/drank quite a few while in NC over the weekendFoothills Torch PilsnerTerrapin Capt'n KrunklesLonerider hefe and porterHighland Seven SistersBruery Mischiefye olde CPAMother Earth wit and kolschand currently on a bottle of Terrapin Monk's Revenge
4/12/2010 11:08:15 PM
^what'd you think of the Highland Seven Sisters? I thought it was really good, though the reviews on BA haven't been as kind. Also I was pretty disappointed by the Monk's Revenge, when I was drinking it I kept thinking that I wished I was drinking Raging Bitch instead.
4/12/2010 11:14:12 PM
haven't tried the Highland yet - not sure if it's just me but they never seem to get much love, though anything they put out is an automatic buy for meagreed on the Monk's Revenge, luckily it was only a single from Sam's as I'd take a six pack of Raging Bitch for $8.49 over this any day - I didn't think the Capt'n Krunkles was anything special, either[Edited on April 12, 2010 at 11:21 PM. I'm now holding out for Red Oak's Big Oak to arrive in Charlotte.
4/12/2010 11:37:23 PM
Having one of these currently, and it is surprisingly solid (especially at $4.99 a six pack) as I don't usually care for the Mendocino beers:Also picked up one of the Sam Adams Longshot six packs and some Gubna and Imperial Mad Hatter.
4/15/2010 9:32:40 PM
I had a Sam Adam's Summer Ale today and really didn't care for it
4/15/2010 10:42:14 PM
^I also am not a big fan of Sam Adams Summer ale.Drinking an Oscar Blues Gubna atm, and I'm really digging it so far...it's interesting that they only used Summit hops (which I'm not especially familiar with) but it really helps you get a better idea of what individual hop varieties taste/smell like without interference.
4/16/2010 12:10:01 AM
I love the Sam Summer Ale, but it's better on tap (as you might expect).Have a 6-pack of Magic Hat Vinyl (their spring lager) at home that I haven't gotten into yet. That situation will be rectified this evening, though.armorfrsleep, where did you find that smoked doppelbock (assuming you're Raleigh area local). I've only had one smoked beer, but I quite liked it and would like to try more.[Edited on April 16, 2010 at 5:00 PM. Reason : type]

Add the Boston Lager to the list of Sam Adams that I dislike I'm gonna just stop trying them.
4/16/2010 5:12:55 PM
as of now, the list of sam adams that i do NOT like is very short. in fact it only has one on it:Cherry Wheat...
4/16/2010 5:18:25 PM
Haha the only ones I like are Cherry Wheat and Blackberry Witbier
4/16/2010 5:20:25 PM
^^^^College Beverage had a bunch of 22oz bottles of that and a few other high gravity New Holland beers for $2.99
4/16/2010 5:26:28 PM
Going to Raleigh Times tonight for these draft beers:-Hopslam-Founders KBS-Bourbon Barrel aged Sexual chocolate-Mother earth DIPA...mmmmmmm

4/21/2010 11:32:04 AM
Would be nice if you weren't such a big pussy and tried it yourself
4/21/2010 11:34:08 AM
I like bananas, but hate banana flavored stuff. So I'll pass on that. Same deal with grapes. Reminds of my mom forcing Dimetap down my throat as a kid whenever I coughed. Bitch.
4/21/2010 11:40:11 AM
Win
4/21/2010 11:41:53 AM
Grape Dimetapp was awesome. I faked sick just to get my fix.
4/21/2010 11:48:56 AM
You are a sick, sick man.
4/21/2010 12:00:58 PM
^^^bought a bottle of that the other day, I hope it's good.Drinking a bottle of this atm:decent but not worth the $14 a four pack it's going for.
4/22/2010 12:13:33 AM

4/23/2010 11:15:28 AM
^ I actually liked the Wells Banana Bread.Anyone know of any other stores that let you build a 6-pack besides Total Wine?

I found out about a really cool website at beerfest, http://www.beerburglar.com/; you can pick a beer and it'll show you where you can get it, the price, and how it is served. Haven't played with it too much but it seems to have potential. Raleigh only though, I think
4/26/2010 10:20:30 PM
^that site is fucking lame, it also isn't updated very often judging by the amount of fall seasonals still listed on it. You'd be way better off just looking at a bar's twitter/facebook page or using http://www.beerinator.com or the beerfly feature on Beer Advocate to figure out what different bars have.
4/26/2010 11:03:12 PM
Outer Banks Brewing Station Lemon Grass Wheat was pretty good
4/27/2010 1:22:15 AM

there's a barleywine/high alcohol lineup going on at my local beer pub so i had a mini vertical tasting of sierra nevada big feet this evening -- split tasters of '02, '03, '04, and '05'02 and '03 were excellent, '05 not so great, '04 okgonna do a barleywine comparison across breweries on friday, i think -- there's also quite a few imperial stouts on tap, but that may have to wait for another night
