If you're a vinylbandit...

Where are some good places in Raleigh to pick around for vinyls? I've currently been making the rounds at the Flea Market at the State Fair Grounds and Nice Price Books & Music, but that's about it.

Nevermind the timeliness of it, how tasteless is it that I picked up the Dead Kennedys' "Give me convenience or give me death" over the weekend?

places for vinyl in raleigh:

schoolkids
nice price (raleigh/durham/ch)
cd alley (ch)
reader's corner
flea market mall on capital (gold mine)
ed mckay
father & son (upstairs)
the thrift stores have good stuff, but you have to go every 2-3 days

So far I've just been hitting Nice Price and the Fairgrounds a lot. Both spots have shilled out probably 30 good records, including a borderline-worthwhile Beatles LP that I resold for about 150 (it was their first "best of", but it was a real early one and it's got a little bit of value to it). Mostly I'm actually just looking for my own favorites, articles from the Progressive and Psychedelic era. Mostly I've only managed to get my hands on Jethro Tull and some Yes, but what I'm really looking for is ANYTHING King Crimson.

Anyway, is there any stores with used records near NCSU out of those you mentioned? I know Schoolkids is, but I was under the impression they only sold new.

The flea market at the fairgrounds is absolute garbage. The record guy (Mike Spikel) at the Flea Market Mall has the goods.

b) i have loved you so long (http://www.ilyalongtempsquejetaime-lefilm.com/)

or

c) elegy w/ penélope cruz (i dunno why but i have like a thing for her)

and if so did you like them.

these are on my next to rent list when i get off my lazy ass and remember to put my netflix in the mail. but i don't know if i should rent them. so i'm asking you if you have seen them. or anyone else that reads this for that matter.

do you know any old album collectors that would be willing to pay a decent amount for an autographed Ray Charles album?

Okay, first, what is the Flea Market Mall? Is it NOT the Fairgrounds one?

Also, I need some pricing help.

I just picked up (from the shitty Fairgrounds) a "Very Good" copy of Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" and two "Good" copies of The Door's "L.A. Woman" and "Strange Days". Haven't looked up full details yet, but they're original presses with original sleeves. The pricing I've seen is all over the board because of the wide overseas distribution.

Any insights?

ITT: We turn this thread into a vinyl pricing guide.

Flea Market Mall is on Capital next to Bobby Murray Chevrolet.

I have no idea about values, because I don't buy shit for collector value, I buy it to play.

And I sure as hell don't buy Doors records.

I buy for one of two reasons:

1) I know, for certain, it has a much higher value.

2) I absolutely adore the LP and wouldn't pass it up (happens very often even with crappy presses).

3) Both of the above.

As for the Doors, I'll agree to disagree.

I know they have at least two record guides at the Cameron Village library because I used one to look up a Sugar Hill compilation I got; I'd assume D.H. Hill and any other public branch would have at least one.

^ so are you suggesting I go there? i can't tell if you're referring to me in that post or the last person

I would keep it because it is cool that I found something like that in the depths of an antique store, but at the same time... I know there are much, much bigger Ray Charles fans out there that would want it more than I do

I never said that.

I thought I answered the Ray Charles question, but apparently I didn't. If you can authenticate the autograph, I'm sure someone would give you something for it. If you can't, you might be able to get something from the flea market mall dude or someone he knows. No guarantees, though.

Have you had the PBR with pomegranate at The Borough?

How is it?

I have had a PomBR. I didn't like it, but I don't really like Pomegranate juice to begin with. I know lots of people who love it.

I've also had a TequiBR. That was a bad idea.

BTW, Telekinesis at Tir na Nog tonight, 10 PM. Super awesome power-pop band featuring Ivan Rosebud on bass and local badass producer BJ Burton on guitar. Opener is Motor Skills, one of Mike Dillon's bands. Free show, but bring money for the Telekinesis record because you're gonna want to buy it.

have you seen the documentary southern comfort?

i'm pretty open minded but this is like kinda out there and i keep getting confused about who is male or female i mean...i guess the the PC thing is to call them what they changed themselves into but to follow the story and when they talk about surgery you have to like figure out what they were before

i don't know

i'm confused
