its funny, as soon as we start talking about them getting dejuan, a S from state, they pick up holt, also a S from state, completely out of the blueRED.[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 3:14 PM. Reason : \/ totally]

more like completely out of the red!
3/20/2008 3:13:01 PM
ok so what positions do we need someone at now?
3/20/2008 3:59:34 PM
offensive linedefensive linerunning backamong others
3/20/2008 4:00:45 PM
hopefully we can get clady, and then someone like eric johnson
3/20/2008 4:01:59 PM
I agree.... focus on the line.... that will make even an average RB look good (deAngelo / Toefield) and that is the only proven method to helping our slightly above average franchise QB perform well....
3/20/2008 4:10:53 PM
should we take an offensive lineman or defensive lineman with our first pick? personally i think it depends on the talent left with our pick...if we can get a beast defensive lineman and a beast offensive lineman i'd prolly pick the beast defensive lineman

im so excited to have a Holt back in NC playing football

I have a mancrush on T Holt the younger. Dude was a kick blocking beast back in the day. He would make some devastating hits too. Man, I loved the football team then.
3/21/2008 9:38:51 AM
I will take that pick up of T. Holt. I would not be opposed to taking Morgan if he is there in the 3rd. Be nice to have that depth. But we do have glaring holes on that OL/DL where the beef is. III

Was checking out the Tulane RB, dude is nice size and makes plays..but he also runs high and tall. But looks athletic. Checked out combine numbers...not bad. III
3/21/2008 5:51:38 PM
I like Kevin Smith, the RB out of UCF. He'll make a nice 3rd round pick.
3/21/2008 5:55:12 PM
I like either of those guys in the 3rd, possibly Tashard Choice or Peyton Hills from Arkansas in the 4th - he's an RB/FB hybridRay Rice and Chris Johnson both have the same approximate dimensions as D-Will, which mean they don't compliment him as well. Though I don't think there's any way we pass on Johnson if he makes it to us in the 3rd.[Edited on March 21, 2008 at 6:07 PM. Reason : .]

Sportsnation mock draft is retarded. It had us drafting Keith Rivers even though Ryan Clady is still on the board.
3/21/2008 9:08:11 PM
i wonder if this is kinda why the holt brothers were in town last week...
3/21/2008 11:54:04 PM
Decent article....I can't help but agree that it all hinges on the OL.http://www.gastongazette.com/sports/continuity_18510___article.html/offensive_gross.html

got a new OL" The Carolina Panthers have signed unrestricted free agent guard Milford Brown from the St. Louis Rams, the team announced Friday.Brown, 27, has appeared in 48 games with 43 starts in six seasons with Houston, Arizona and St. Louis. Signed as a free agent by St. Louis during training camp in 2007, he started a career-high 15 games for the Rams last year, making nine starts at left guard, four at right tackle and two at right guard.Originally selected in the sixth round of the supplemental draft from Florida State by Houston in 2002, Brown (6-5, 330 pounds) saw action in 19 games with 16 starts over four seasons with the Texans. He signed with Arizona as an unrestricted free agent in 2006 and played in 13 games with 12 starts for the Cardinals.A native of Montgomery, AL, Brown was a two-time first-team Junior College All-American at East Mississippi. He transferred to Florida State prior to his junior year and started all 12 games at guard for the Seminoles in 2001. Milford entered the supplemental draft after the NCAA ruled him ineligible for his senior season because he had exhausted all of his eligibility by enrolling briefly at Alabama State before attending East Mississippi."[Edited on March 31, 2008 at 1:25 PM. Sounds like a nice pick-up. Experience and size. I like that we are beefing up the O-Line through FA. III
3/31/2008 1:37:55 PM
yeah we signed him a couple days agoi'm not sure what to make of it, considering how HORRIBLE st. louis' o-line was last year...
3/31/2008 1:39:22 PM
wonder how much he cost
3/31/2008 2:08:33 PM
looks like they're taking the "pick up a bunch of O-linemen and a few are bound to pan out" strategy.on a related note, it seemed to me that they brought Davidson last year in b/c he ran the zone blocking scheme, which needed quick, athletic O linemen to be successful (which we had at the time).....it seems like they're blowing that approach up, so are they going to force davidson to change his philisophy, or try to incorporate these guys into a zone scheme? Neither makes much sense to me....if they're making him change his approach, he becomes a liability. If they try to force square pegs into round holes, they're not utilizing the best abilities of thier players.

i dont think this has been posted eitherThe Carolina Panthers have signed guard Toniu Fonoti, the team announced Wednesday. Fonoti, 26, has played in 40 games with 33 starts in five seasons with San Diego, Minnesota and Miami. He was signed by Atlanta last offseason but was released during training camp.Selected in the second round (39th overall) from Nebraska by San Diego in 2002, Fonoti (6-4, 350 pounds) played in 15 games with 14 starts and earned all-rookie honors from Football Digest. He spent the 2003 season on injured reserve with a foot injury but returned the next year to start 16 games, garnering first-team All-Pro honors from SportsIllustrated.com and being named to USA Today's All-Joe Team.Fonoti split the 2005 campaign between San Diego and Minnesota. He started the first two games for the Chargers before being traded to the Vikings, where he started one game prior to being placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. In 2006, Fonoti appeared in six games for Miami after being released by Tampa Bay in the final roster cutdown.

^with the recent moves, it looks like they're moving toward that, if not to an all out power blocking scheme.

you are all idiots

why worry about it? best case scenario is that we have a decent OL this year - no way we pull all these new guys together this year for a good OL.Just hope that our renewed WR corps can consistently bail Jake out when he is pressured quickly.. only that will open up the rungame because I doubt we will be able to run on anyone to start games this year...
4/1/2008 12:21:34 PM
Jake's starting to throw a real football today.
4/7/2008 10:12:01 AM
^good news indeed.
4/7/2008 10:39:53 AM
Thats what I like to hear...Jake throwing the ball. And it will be a combination of the receiving core actually catching and holding on the ball and the the decent O-line play that will make the running game look good and open it up. Last year, we had one WR that could get open and catch the ball, and no QB, so of course our running game looked like shit. If Jake stays healthy, and the WR's continue to hold on the ball and just be a consistent threat to make first downs, defenses will back up and not stack the line. They knew we were going to run 97% of the time.Just my rambling thoughts... III
4/7/2008 5:56:03 PM
no longer continuously going 3 & out will help keep the D fresh as wellall this assumes a decent o-line though
4/7/2008 5:57:58 PM
4/7/2008 6:01:59 PM
I'm wondering why, despite the lack of depth at D-line, they're not bringing back Jordan Carsten.

agreed. I think we surprise this year!
4/9/2008 1:16:29 PM
from everything i've heard over the last few months on local sports radio, it sounds like jake's recovery is going well, though slow...but you dont want to rush back from an injury like this...i just know some baseball players with this surgery havent come back the same as before but all ive heard about jake is he could possibly be a little stronger than before...i'm optimistic
4/9/2008 1:17:50 PM
just wondering who on here is an absolute DIE HARD panthers fan? i know there's fans but i just want to see how many are of my breed
4/9/2008 1:19:53 PM
The good thing about throwing a football is that the motion is natural to the mechanics of the bodyThrowing a baseball is not...your elbow is twisted 90 degrees on every pitchThats why so many pitches have arm problems, and for quarterbacks their much less common[Edited on April 9, 2008 at 1:21 PM.
