"circlejerk

To kneel in a circle with others and pleasure oneself. Also refers to a pompous, self-congratulatory discussion where little to no progress is made.

^are you calling yourself out for being a troll? Sure sounds like it since you call everyone in this thread a circle jerk because you can't afford a $99 hd dvd player or a blu ray player on a movie theater concessions stand attendant's hourly wage..

no denying the truth, troll.

anyway, any word on black friday deals on stand-alone blu-ray players? The PS3 deal doesn't seem to be anything different. I'm hoping they'll have at least some kind of good deal on a blu ray stand alone.

%20 off any one item at K-Mart.

says it excluded Sears home electronics? Now I haven't been in a k-mart ever so is k-mart part of Sears now or something?

^I Guess that would apply to stand-alone players because i'm not interested in a PS3.

This article is probably better suited for the "If you bought a blu-ray player you're an idiot" thread, but I'll post it here instead.

Cliff's notes: Sony is fucking everyone that has bought a blu-ray player by introducing new and improved blu-ray players that have new and improved features. Soon they will start releasing Blu-Ray discs with features that won't work on any current players. Hey that's awesome. Now I can't wait to pay four times as much to get my hands on a first gen Blu-ray player that will be obsolete in six months!

Uh, that article is talking about stuff that was news back in 2006. Everyone who owns a Blu-ray player knows about Profile 1.1. I love how he talks about lawsuits yet neglects to mention that 98% of the Blu-ray players out there are Profile 1.1 compatible. It's an extremely biased article citing quotes from one of the leaders of the HD DVD promotion group. It's just more mud slinging between HD DVD and Blu-ray. You'll see the same thing with the triple layer HD DVD discs that can't play on any current HD DVD players. The fact that you would even post it as real news shows your lack of knowledge on the subject. Keep pretending though, it's cute.

Thanks for the education on the matter though. Or at least presenting something resembling facts. Your last post was basically the online equivalent of "Nah-uh, my daddy can beat up your daddy"

So serious question here.

How can you say that 98% of blu-ray players out there are 1.1 compatable when this article says that the first 1.1 player only came out 2 weeks ago?

^thats one good thing about HD DVD players. Having the Ethernet port on the back for updates. Of course burning it to a disc works also.

Does Blu-ray Profile 1.1 make past players obsolete?

Cliff notes: Your PS3 will get a firmware update, and you'll be able to play these disks. That is, if you're the type who actually wants to watch the "making of" crap they bundle in with DVDs. HD DVD had a lot of these features already (and I'm honestly not sure why Golovko didn't mention this before, instead of the mindless banter that he's been posting).

Whatever happened to the mythical 51 GB HD DVDs? You know... those ones that were promised later this year, and wouldn't play on any of the current HD DVD players?

Again, genuine question.

It just really seems like Sony is yet again shitting on their customers.

""Blu-ray discs have higher capacity." Another nonissue as HD DVD has enough to do the job. Plus, expensive new equipment is needed to manufacture Blu-ray discs. Existing DVD factories need little modification to press HD DVDs, meaning lower costs from movie studio to consumer."

interesting. Although I haven't notice much of a price difference between HD DVD and Blu ray. Either HD DVD is making huge mark-ups or Blu Ray discs are selling at a loss.

""Blu-ray will win because it has sold more movies to date." Another nonissue because even combined, Blu-ray and HD DVD disc sales are an infinitesimal piece of the DVD pie, a few grains of sand in a sandbox. Blu-ray's tiny numerical lead will be obliterated soon anyway because kingmaker Wal-Mart has embraced HD DVD. In early November, Wal-Mart placed HD DVD ads on primetime TV and ran a promotion estimated to have sold well over 50,000 players in a single day. Other retailers showed increased HD DVD player sales in Wal-Mart's wake, with the events making national news."

This format war sucks. Sucks for all us consumers. I would think at some point they would start competing by lowering the price of the discs or something, but that's not the case. THis thing could last longer than the Betamax/VHS standoff.

I disagree. I've bought about 20 BD titles in the past month that were all Buy 1 Get 1 Free, and it's all thanks to HD-DVD. The sales started when Transformers was released, and they just had another (presumably to combat Shrek 3).

Everyone else seems to enjoy getting their panties all twisted up about the 'war' on the internets... Personally, I'm loving this format war if it means I get my movies 50% off.

The only part about it that irks me is the whole exclusivity thing. There are quite a few Paramount + Universal titles I wouldn't mind picking up.
