One thing I did not think about before I got to level 10 or so, is that you only make it to level 20, so that means you only get 20 perks! Choose wisely! And, I also tried to be too balanced with my skill points in the beginning, blah. Anyway, I'll be playing this game again as evil anyway

So, I liked Morrowind, I like first person shooters, and getting an involved game might be pretty fun right now, esp since my laptop is dead. Is this worth picking up?

How annoying is the VATS or w/e? Are there skills like in Morrowind that you could work on and skill up (alchemy, etc)?

Eh, that's still more than you were limited in the first game. It was kind of nice not having a limit in the second game, but back then to get 20 perks you'd have to be about level 60 since it was once every 3 levels instead of once every level.

VATS is awesome. And you don't have to use it if you don't like it.

No, this game is experience point based. Thank God, no more jumping around while casting tiny heals on myself everywhere I go.

I am willing to say that it probably impossible to beat this game without using V.A.T.S., as you will soon find out that the FPS shooting is rather clunky (I am sure it was designed this way) but not enough to be annoying, and you will take so much more damage it would get out of hand when you cam across a swarm of super mutants.

I actually find it a bit easier to not use VATS in closeup combat with something like a combat shotgun or a sledgehammer. Aiming for the head isn't that hard when they are close.

I understand that. But run up on 2-3 Raiders with guns and don't use V.A.T.S. and tell me how much you like it LOL.

well I mean, I'll use VATS at first, always, but in the ^ scenario I probably use VATS on the guy with the best weapon and then sort the rest out in FPS style

(as opposed to running away/ducking/hiding and waiting for my AP to recharge)

I love V.A.T.S. especially when I string together 3 shotgun shots to a dome that is point blank range away from me, you should try it with the Bloody Mess perk

I was gonna pick bloody mess, but I read that the total explosions got old after awhile

Like you shoot someone in the foot and their whole body would explode

Plus it might be harder to loot the corpse when its in 100 pieces

iirc it shouldn't matter how many pieces the corpse is, each piece has the same collective "stuff". that's a carryover from fo1/fo2

Each piece can be searched as the corpse. Also, I got the Mysterious Stranger perk last night right before I quit, can't wait to get home today and V.A.T. -a-tat-tat

when using the hunting rifle and v.a.t.s sometimes its so loud that my receiver will cut off

and its actually easier to search bodies with bloody mess - i took out arkansas the sniper and was able to search his giblets on the ground instead of climbing up to his body

I read a thing online that there were 4 roving traders going predetermined routes across the wasteland

You can invest in them on some quest and they start carrying better items and you get money periodically

I wish I had known that before because I think I've already murdered 2 or 3 of them lol

Yeah I have had 2.

First I had some brotherhood chick with a super sledge (I gave her a plasma rifle), now I have a super mutant with a gatling laser.

I picked up the perk yesterday and only have seem him once. I'm not sure what conditions have to be present for him to appear but it was after a missed shot. Since then I haven't seen him again but also have hardly missed my headshots in VATS so I can't say for certain that missing has anything to do with it.

to those of you having issues with crashing, the game has only crashed on me twice. both times I was alt+tabbed and fallout immediately shut down when I switched back.

I've got two. One is a ghoul with a combat shotgun. The other is a temporary quest NPC armed with an SMG.

I'm excited. Haven't gotten to play much yet though. I just got through the supermarket. It was awesome to activate the robot and have him running around helping you out.

You need to get your hands on that SMG, it is one of the best small arms weapons in the game. I found a note from her father somewhere (I think the hotel with the Rangers) and gave it to her after doing the quest with her, and she gave me the gun.

Can you go back to your other saves and play from there? If so, I would save right before I beat the game, then explore then do everything else that I could.

I've been playing for a little while and haven't yet used VATS. I'm suspicious that I'll start micromanaging my combat like in Baldur's Gate or something and won't really enjoy shooting people as much.

yeah

you can't really micromanage your combat too much because you only have so many action points to use in VATS, plus I don't think you can switch weapons from inside of VATS. Just helps to get off a couple of accurate shots.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Lets say there are 5 raiders. I can use VATS to kill 3 of them with heat shots, then exit VATS, use an AP booster, and kill the remaining 2 with more headshots. Used with AP boosters, plenty of ammo, and the right timing you can continue to kill enemies as they come without ever leaving VATS for very long.
