Armando Galarraga just lost a lasting memory, a spot in mlb history, the chance to tell his grand kids when he's 80 that he once threw a perfect game......that's some priceless stuff. I feel bad for the guy.

6/2/2010 9:08:21 PM

6/2/2010 9:12:30 PM
thats literally the worst possible way for someone to feel when their pitcher just throws a 1 hit shutouthow about instant replay just in the 9th and beyond]
6/2/2010 9:13:38 PM
The shit eating grin Gallaraga gave him was pretty funny.
6/2/2010 9:14:49 PM
he took that the best i wouldve ever expected
6/2/2010 9:17:14 PM
damn, i didn't even get to see a replay til just now. it's not even live, i'm not a tigers fan, and it still makes me mad. i can't imagine being a player on the field
6/2/2010 9:17:29 PM

6/2/2010 9:23:17 PM
Leyland is being pretty classy about everything
6/2/2010 9:24:13 PM
lol 28 straight
6/2/2010 9:25:26 PM
^^hahaha great idea
6/2/2010 9:26:20 PM
it's like when knuckleballers get 4 strikeouts in an inning because of passed ballsexcept, you know, immensely more historic[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 9:28 PM. Reason : .]
6/2/2010 9:26:28 PM
of course Leyland is being classy about it because Major League Baseball would bring the hammer down on him if he wasn't. MLB always protects the umpires.I think you may now see a major clamoring for expansion of instant replay in MLB.
6/2/2010 9:26:53 PM
Any league protects their officials, but not completely blindly...I think MLB makes some kind of statement about how Joyce missed the call, but I don't see them changing any stats
6/2/2010 9:32:12 PM
Remember when a fan came out and attacked an umpire some years ago? I think it was the Royals or something. This might be the only time I condone such behavior.
6/2/2010 9:33:25 PM
nope, it was White Sox fans!
6/2/2010 9:34:39 PM
a high class father and son
6/2/2010 9:37:55 PM
Speaking of classy, Galarraga seems totally cool with Joyce's admission that he blew the call[Edited on June 2, 2010 at 9:47 PM. Reason : hahaha "Hees eyes are water"]
6/2/2010 9:46:58 PM
Joyce apologized to Galaragga in person (according to Galaragga)I guess Harold Reynolds was right when he said Joyce feels worse than anybody]
6/2/2010 9:47:34 PM
i wonder if he realized that fairly quickly or after the game?
6/2/2010 9:52:00 PM
6/2/2010 9:53:02 PM
He hates the Tigers because they are a rival to one of his favorite teams. Its not rocket science.
6/2/2010 9:55:00 PM
^ you're assuming i know what his favorite teams are
6/2/2010 9:57:31 PM
hey now's ability to get to level 45 must be rocket science
6/2/2010 9:58:01 PM
people are allowed to have two favorite teams
6/2/2010 9:58:15 PM
If you were an ump and there was a controversial call to end a perfect game... wouldn't you in this case, side with the throw? You do that and a bad call makes history for good and not bad. I understand Joyce is human and he made a bad call and feels bad about it, but that's not what this is about.
6/2/2010 9:59:54 PM
oh shit, announcement coming next inning!
6/2/2010 10:04:04 PM
6/2/2010 10:04:32 PM
Put that ump on suicide watch.
6/2/2010 11:49:43 PM
Just more and more evidence that having umpires is a big mistake. They are no longer needed. We have the technology to remove them from the game, and doing so would be a huge improvement.
6/3/2010 12:08:00 AM
Apparently Galarraga and the ump hugged it out. Props to Galarraga for handling it so well.
6/3/2010 12:21:36 AM
They played a clip of the ump talking to a radio station and maaaaannn did he sound distraught. He said over and over how sorry he was for taking history away from that kid and how he blew it. He sounded really sincere. I kind of feel bad for the guy now.
6/3/2010 12:39:09 AM
i think MLB's front office should just say fuck it and reverse the call and give the guy the no-hitter. that'll never happen though.[Edited on June 3, 2010 at 12:56 AM. Reason : .]
6/3/2010 12:55:31 AM
MLB channel guys also talked to a guy that reviews plays for errors/hits/etc and he said no deal. The only thing they would change is if the play was an error they could review it and give an error on the play and make it a no hitter. But he said there was no error on the play. Then Mitch Williams said something smartass about an error on the ump. ha
6/3/2010 12:59:02 AM
MLB should do something unprecedented and do the right thing here: reverse the call. This is a 100 percent unique situation. I would want them to reverse any blatantly bad call in the ninth inning of a no-hitter/perfect game, but I recognize that's just not doable most of the time. But the thing that makes a possible reversal actually justifiable is that with two outs in the inning and the next batter getting out anyway, it wouldn't change anything.
6/3/2010 1:13:53 AM
Don Denkinger, your thoughts:
6/3/2010 2:04:23 AM
6/3/2010 7:15:55 AM
it was the last out, the league should overturn. that batter should be happy to sacrifice his base hit and im sure the next batter would be happy to forfeit his ground out
6/3/2010 8:41:14 AM
this is yet another reason why no one gives a fuck about baseball anymorethey need to reverse this shit
6/3/2010 9:21:43 AM
6/3/2010 9:23:57 AM
^well, baseball is the only sport that stubbornly refuses to use instant replay to compensate for officials making mistakes.[Edited on June 3, 2010 at 9:25 AM. Reason : d]
