Ok I just looked it up, I was off by a factor of 10.
7/10/2006 2:10:06 PM
maybe its just a comic book story
7/10/2006 2:14:13 PM
Hahahaha. McDanger, you are my favorite.AND OF COURSE YOU ARE WRONG BECAUSE COMIC BOOKS ARE SACRED TEXTS OMG.
7/10/2006 2:17:44 PM
Superman was missing for 5 years. He visited Krypton.Discussion is over.
7/10/2006 2:30:32 PM
i love these faggotsHOW COULD SUPERMAN GET TO KRYPTON AND BACKmeanwhile they stroke their dicks to "THE MUTANT X GENE"look none of this shit makes sense okayit's a fun story
7/10/2006 2:35:31 PM
seriouslyhow dare they have fun analyzing the story. or discuss its realism in anyway.i mean its not like there are countless tv specials on the science of these things anyways.oh wait.
7/10/2006 2:45:08 PM
you got me dude
7/10/2006 2:51:32 PM
What is wrong with analyzing it? I don't care if it doesn't work "scientifically" but I think it is fun to just think about the science behind it, I don't know why you are so cool just because you don't agree.
7/10/2006 2:57:54 PM
probably because nothing superman does is possiblethis is the weirdest possible way to pound your intellectual pud
7/10/2006 2:58:42 PM
I'm with McDanger on this one. There really is no point in analyzing the science behind a character thats impervious to everything.
7/10/2006 3:01:19 PM
but thenlots of things we do for fun have no point.
7/10/2006 3:37:05 PM
Ehhhhhh
7/10/2006 4:09:06 PM
wow, this got to be a lot longer than I thought, sorry. Don't read it if you don't want.i'm not analyzing the science behind superman, i mean that motherfucker shoots lazers out of his eyes, who's trying to analyze that? I got no problem with his powers. Or with crystals growing islands It was explained and accepted as being alien technology. All of that unrealistic as far as we know, but explained and accepted in the context of a comic book, book or movie. However, although superman is an alien and has these powers (which are easily explained by him being an alien), the earth and everyone else on it is a human and are subject to physics and other sciences we are familiar with, that is what i'm analyzing. And mostly i'm only doing so if it's a hole in the story/writing, and some little annoying shit like capes fluttering in outerspace or a human with no oxygen mask or even spf 45 being on the outerskirts of the atmosphere. What tends to bother me is when stupid stuff that highschool students can pick out isn't considered let alone given a piss poor explanation which would have taken 5 minutes to come up with. The thing he landed on the farm with didn't look like a space ship. If it wasn't and he was so weak he couldn't fly down, how was he able to direct it to their farm. If it was a space ship why not just get out while in outerspace, juice up from the sun and then land down on the ground. He wouldn't have to worry about crashing and hurting his adoptive mother or destroying their house. He wouldn't have needed help walking away. And it would have been a lot less noticible. I mean was she really the only one that felt the ground shaking like that and saw a huge fireball shoot across the sky? (it seemed to be really late, so possibly). OK, fine I buy by it, but what happened?Nothing about the opening scene was explained what so ever. We saw a planet or sun explode, then we see him crash onto their farm and need help walking away. Assumingly the next day, he says "don't worry, I burried it". What was "it"? Was it, a space ship, a meteorite, comet, or something else all together? What we got was essentially "who cares, it was just a device for a dramatic opening and to say 'HEY! Superman's back!'" To me that seems like shitty writing. My thoughts on how this movie may have come together:The writers: "We have to come up with a really good screen entrance for supes""Well, what if we just have a knock on the door then his mom opens it and he's standing there? or Him just walking into his own damn house like everyone else does?""That's neither cool nor big enough""What if he returns by saving someone or doing something really super? we could have people saying 'it's superman' and some others saying 'it can't be, he's been gone for years', but it will be him.""nah, not good enough""nothing will ever be good enough for Superman coming back""Shit, you're right. Atleast nothing we could come up with.""I got it! how about we just give this bullshit intro where he's all fucked up and can't even talk just to get him in the movie? Then we never explain it and just move on with the story...?""hmmm, why's he all fucked up?""i don't know, that would require some more creativity. ...(news clip of the Discovery shuttle crashing comes on TV) Well, falling from outerspace would hurt someone pretty bad""For sure. why's he falling though?""I don't know, but I think that's good enough""Yeah! And we'll just make it look real cool with a lot of expensive special effects. That should distract the audience so they don't realize our complete inability as writers to come up with a good intro."... Later"Well, he just got rid of that big ass island. Do we just end it here?""No, we need something. That falling from outerspace thing seemed to work well earlier""Yeah, lets just go with that again."[Edited on July 10, 2006 at 5:43 PM. Reason : long]

Or maybe, he was so weak that he couldn't get out and juice up.Or maybe the ship has kryptonite and drains Supes' power so he can't actually go out and juice up.I mean there's a lot of maybes.
7/10/2006 5:45:28 PM
If you go back and watch the first movie, you'll realize it was a Kryptonian ship.[Edited on July 10, 2006 at 5:51 PM. Reason : ...]

I woulda thought the"They're entire culture revolved around growing crystals..." And the subsequent references to transportation woulda been enough to connect the dots
7/10/2006 5:53:59 PM
Excellent point.
7/10/2006 5:54:52 PM
interesting those that loved it on the first few pages are now slowly pointing out flaws?
7/10/2006 5:55:05 PM
i thought about both of those actually SandSanta. But that just made it worse because they didn't give us a single one. I don't recall the references to transportation. Just them talking about all the information stored in the crystals. Not saying it's not there, it was a long movie though, so I don't remember it all having seen it once.I did not realize it was a ship. Looked like jagged rocks so I figured it could be a meteor or maybe a ship of some sort since he was on it. I haven't seen the original in a long time to compare the two, nor did I read the comic very much. So that does clear up that it was a ship. Which makes a little more sense since he's coming back exactly how he landed as a child. I can buy that. I wish they would have made it more clear though that it was a ship. I don't think it's that obvious to someone who doesn't recall what the ship looks like. And the later references SandSanta mentioned may not be enough for most to realize that the crystal like thing in the beginning was a ship.[Edited on July 10, 2006 at 6:18 PM. Reason : .]

Or maybe it is a movie?
7/11/2006 9:52:42 PM
Saw it tonight. Loved it. I thought it was kinda dumb that nobody seemed to notice/care/question what happend to Clark Kent when Superman was in the hospital towards the end. Also, I thought Lois Lane's faxing of her coordinates while her son was playing heart and soul on the piano was lame too. But other than those displays of lazy writing, I thought the acting was pretty good and the story kept my attention pretty much the entire time. Can't wait for the next one to come out.

I don't know if anyone brought this up yet, but when I see it at IMAX I'm going to watch the part where the kid is walking around with the trash can on his head and see if he bumps into anything. They were probably trying to drop a hint at that part.
7/12/2006 7:37:30 PM
Saw it this past Monday. It was a good movie and definitely kept my attention, but I was waiting for some action. I felt it was too much of a love story. Sure, I guess Lois needed some closure, but they dedicated too much time to this struggle. Speaking of Lois, isn't she supposed to be "vixen" or "spicy"? The girl playing her seemed overly demure.

Numbers.com said that Superman Returns had a weak last weekend and probably wont turn a profit until it's network debut since the budget with promotions et. al. cost over 300 million. the website says that the movie is now officially classified as not really a sucess but could be if they get a "more epic villian" in the planned sequel. FYI

Saw it at IMAX last night. The kid almost ran into a door, so I guess there weren't any subtle hints about X-ray vision there.

ATTENTION--DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE FILM BECAUSE THIS ALSO DISCUSSES A POSSIBLE SEQUELFINAL WARNING--IGNORE THE REVIEW UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THE FILMPlusses Lots of high-flying action. Superman showed why he’s one of a kind when it comes to the superheroes.Continuity in storyline. Unlike III & IV, this movie actually reflects a never ending story.Characters. Bryan Singer did a really good job in defining the people’s characteristics in the movie.MinusesDogs. WTF was up with the cannibalistic dog? It just made no sense.Lois Lane is a mommy. The idea was just plain disturbing. If they wanted to have Lois engaged, fine, but do not drag a kid into this movie. I agree with Dean Cain, that was just unsettling. The kid thing makes Superman look like an absentee father--if not a deadbeat dad outright. The last 40 minutes. There are a lot more questions than answers. Let’s face it, Lex Luthor kicked Superman’s ass (his three henchmen notwithstanding) since there was no return duel that would have landed Luthor back in prison instead of being stranded on an island.Unfinished Business for Superman VIRichard White. Since Jason isn’t his kid, the engagement will get broken off and Lex kills him as good measure to get into Lois’s head.Jason. It’ll be interesting to see him use his superpowers in the next film.Lex Luthor. Can he actually be put in and stay in prison?Miss Kitty. If she really liked the Man of Steel, she should have had a chance to turn on Lex. Maybe, that will be saved for next time.Lois Lane. Maybe, she won’t be much an emotional head case now that her faith in Superman has been restored.========================================================================Rating: 2.5 stars/4========================================================================AddendumThe Superman Curse. Brandon Routh may not be afraid of the curse, but check back in about 15 or 20 years to see if he‘s infected. The victims list is ugly: George Reeves (likely murdered); Christopher Reeve (we all know what happened to him); Margot Kidder (suffered from depression); Dean Cain (not a lot of good acting roles after hosting Ripley’s for years); Teri Hatcher (virtually couldn’t get an acting gig until Desperate Housewives came along)

that was pretty much the worst review ever.

Teri Hatcher alone breaks the so-called "Superman Curse". She stars in a series that's more popular now Lois & Clark ever was.

How do you know he didn't wear a condom?Everybody's broken a condom before. I'd assume SUPERMAN would be at risk as well.
7/16/2006 1:55:57 PM
....he told me, just this past week

I don't know about other folks, but I was looking forward to enjoying this movie. After watching it, I thought it royally sucked. There were huge plot holes and inconsistencies, and in general it didn't deliver. I mean, after such a long absence I would have put up with pretty much anything, but this was awful.
7/16/2006 4:38:20 PM
hay guyz didnt reed da thread2 thumbz down lol!!

well I thought click was good, I saw it right after I saw superman
7/17/2006 7:42:48 AM
weekend numbers update... Superman fell to fourth this weekend...it has ONLY made 163 mil. in 19 days of release. Remember this movie cost a reported 240-260 mil. depending on who you believe. (Speaking of Click it made 112 mil in 24 days and cost 70 mil. just FYI) everyone still sure that Singer will direct Supes 2? Man I wish he had given the movie a better story and then we could have seen a sequel, oh well.
