So would this be a "crooked duckbaby" picture or a "hey them lines kinda work" picture?
2/8/2009 7:18:54 PM
be gentle...
2/8/2009 7:21:43 PM
^^I'd say it works. The photo isn't crooked just for the sake of being crooked. It isn't EXTREMELY crooked either. Nice shot.

I too like babies... they are the other white meat. :p ^^whats up with the car being a thumbnail?

haven't gone through them all yet, but here's a pic from KKC working with Rob and Austin. I need to figure out a way to edit some of my HD video's. I was hoping that they'd format them in .avi or something not .mov. The quality of the video's from the 5D is just amazing. Now I just need to add in a nice quality mic and I'd be set to create some digital shorts (along with a video editor).

^pc or mac?iMovie works great. iMovie '09 is out now and is even better. Here's my first movie. I made it yesterday. Don't laugh, we spent a whole hour on it and took only 2:36 of footage. Gleaning 1:45 out of it makes me a genius. http://vimeo.com/3139547
2/9/2009 10:56:04 AM
PC. I refuse to switch to mac because they are simply way over priced and just a marketing machine. The only way I'd get on macs is if I was making $$$ or I get them for free. None of which will happen soon. Plus, the only modern game that plays on mac is WOW... and that's like yeah...
2/9/2009 11:00:02 AM
Ronny I love the cat shot and your lady has purty eyes
2/9/2009 11:00:10 AM
^^i thought the same thing until i got one. There are good deals on refurbs and used ones. I have an early '08 MBP and its the best machine i've ever used, seriously. fast, never bogs down, i can run PS CS4, LR, and CaptureNX2, while listening to itunes and it never skips a beat. The OS is completely none intrusive. No firewalls, antiviruses, registry cleaners, spybot, shit. no alerts, alarms, questions, updates all the time. everything is clean and simple and slick and works perfectly. Physically, this trackpad with all the multitouch gestures is pure genius. Whenever i go back to a normal trackpad it feels like i came from the future and am using '80s tech or something. I've been using, building, messing with PCs (windows and linux) for 15 years now. I'm now happier with the Mac./rant

Sorry, won't switch. I don't want to spend $$$ on switching platforms with new software. Besides, L4D and COD4 can't be played on a mac. I have enough PC's to start a server farm... just waiting for FIOS.
2/9/2009 11:13:50 AM
thats fine, i'm not trying to "convert" anyone. I also run WinXP on this computer for games. Apple Boot Camp helps you install other OSes and provides a boot loader to select them. And i run Win7 in a virtual machine. smooth as butter.
2/9/2009 11:17:44 AM
damn, you're stuborn, jBaz. You know you're secretly lusting after my iMac. Why don't you keep all your PCs so you can play your games, but just supplement them with a nice mac. You'll see the light, eventually
2/9/2009 11:25:17 AM
as I said before, only if I get em for free or make bank. Why Rob, are you giving me your imac? cause I'd dig it for free.

yeah there is no reason to get a mac if you have a good desktop.

The lines in the light pole allow the picture to be crooked but not. It's all in the design elements.Bomb diggity job on that one Jbaz.

cool, what video editing software did you use? How are you liking the autofocus on the 5DII? Any trouble with it? I heard it uses something inferior to the normal still picture autofocus, but still better than the D90's lack of AF all together i guess.I have been looking at the D90 vids on vimeo though and theyre pretty awesome. PQ is fantastic

Rob actually compiled it all together, he should take the credit. I don't have video editing software yet, but what I've played with thus far is that the video from it is pretty damn sweet. The only downside is the lack of manual controls with it. You don't control the aperture at all so on a bright day, it might narrow down to f/22 and you won't get any bokeh. Vincent LeFort(sp?) mentioned this earlier and has said to use ND filters in front of the lens to force the camera to open up. I probably took about 60 mins worth of short clips of the race and we did tons of interviews, but I guess for a digital short presentation, Rob's work flows pretty well. After we got to Rob's place I remembered him saying that he had a magic arm in the car and thought of the idea of using it on the bike for a much more steady shot. We'll play around with mounting idea's later on. (if you haven't seen Vincent's latest project, he actually mounts the 5D on an RC helicopter, it's badass).Considering I only had the camera for 24 hours at that point, it's really a no braining on how to use it. The start and stop functions isn't very intuitive, nor is the AF system. The AF system is like an added junk setting, hardly worth mentioning. It's slow and not accurate, unless you are in bright sun and have a contrasty subject, otherwise it'll spend 3 seconds back focusing really really slow. I ended up practicing my zooming and focusing with my left hand and keeping the camera stable with my right hand. For some of the in motion or high up shots, I just pre focused and hoped for the best. I think before I do anything crazier stuff, I should put insurance on my gear. holycrap, just noticed some dumb white bitch running across the start of the race in front of the moving cop car... lol, ppl... wow[Edited on February 9, 2009 at 6:26 PM. ^^^It was cut together in iMovie '08. The time-lapse photography was done by some buddies at News 14 Carolina. They took 1 picture every 6 seconds. I re-created their slideshow in QT Pro at 24fps and then exported it as a movie so that I could easily use the time-lapse footage in iMovie. This whole thing was just an experiment in doing something with HD, since neither of us had ever messed with it before.

yeah, I don't think people expected video of them to be posted on the internet when they saw you with your camera.

oh sure... now we get feedback after I post raw uncut footage of some girls dancing instead of our badass donut coverage...And yes, I do agree she's a bit confusing to the eyes. She's a playboy model from Miami so she is in fact a woman, even though her face is kinda manly.^yeah, lol. Half of my clips from Friday night where ppl standing still for 15 seconds and are like "when are you going to take a picture?" and I'm like "it's video..."[Edited on February 9, 2009 at 8:33 PM.
