Defensive issues that have plagued us since year 1...soft secondary, don’t force turnovers. Not forcing TOs isn’t terrible if you can prevent big plays. We haven’t done that in the pass game. Those 2 things have been fairly consistent year after year. But yeah I agree, .5 cred today. We won. Yay!Back to back seasons with winning record in ACC play for the first time since Dick Sheridan did it in 91-92. That’s plus 100 cred for that achievement

but whah didn't finley grip it and rip it for 400 yards in the rain?
11/24/2018 6:35:05 PM
Yup. Some 4-4 seasons mixed in there, but we’ve only even had a winning conference record 6 total times since 1992. 2 for MOC, 1 for CTC, 1 for TOB, and now 2 for DD.
11/24/2018 6:37:30 PM
^^in the slight drizzle? Because he sucks.
11/24/2018 7:08:27 PM
Who even cares anymore
11/24/2018 7:31:04 PM
no he's right, i've had it.If DD stick with Finley next season, i'm done!!!!
11/24/2018 7:34:38 PM
2nd most passing yards in school history = he sucks
11/24/2018 7:42:52 PM
Secondary has been bad all year and other that McNeil flashing a few times our pass rush was nonexistent. I hope our recruiting class brings some juice to the defense next year. Anyways, thanks for not losing to a bad UNC team.
11/24/2018 10:12:37 PM
Our defense played most of the game without its two best players.
11/24/2018 10:43:58 PM
I understand but Pratt is the only defender I would call a real good player for us this year. We need some upgrades or guys to really improve in the offseason.
11/24/2018 10:50:52 PM
It's a rivalry game and we won. Be happy. 9-3 is something we should be happy with no matter how we got there. We're going to the second best bowl in the ACC this year (Camping World). He's earned some slack.

11/29/2018 8:51:15 AM
Hey man, when you need = ballers, you've got to identify those ballers early.
11/29/2018 11:26:33 AM
11/29/2018 2:17:17 PM
^^^that didnt even mention our best recruiter. Terrible
11/29/2018 2:34:29 PM
Yeah I have no idea. Our DBs, even when they aren’t getting beat, fail to turn around and defend the ball. Our secondary has been a weakness for basically all of DD’s tenure.[Edited on November 29, 2018 at 2:36 PM. Reason : ^kitchens?]
11/29/2018 2:35:29 PM
I thought we hired that guy from GTech as DB coach... Aaron Henry doesn't sound like the right name.
11/30/2018 5:14:31 PM
we hired ted roof to kind of do QC on the secondary as a whole i believe[Edited on November 30, 2018 at 5:25 PM. Reason : henry just coaches nickle i think?]
11/30/2018 5:25:35 PM
Yo, Dave...chill out with the second half stuff. We get it.It's a noon game against EZU in August in Raleigh, relax dude.
7/17/2019 9:26:04 PM
hmmm dont think we actually do get it
7/17/2019 10:42:57 PM
WE MUST GET DAVE DOEREN TO SHOTGUN A BEER!!! It would actually be a good promotion and almost certainly get the program some recognition on the highlights of that day of college football.
7/18/2019 12:00:53 AM
You can't miss the second half if you don't bother showing up for the first either.
7/18/2019 7:49:50 AM
^^when does that come out? next month?
7/18/2019 9:25:48 AM
I think it can already be had at Total Wine.
7/19/2019 7:04:56 AM
No, you can't. Why do people make up random shit?[Edited on July 19, 2019 at 7:23 AM. Reason : 8/5 was the only date ever mentioned, but never confirmed]

I think this year will tell us a lot about Dave. If he goes 8-4 in what most consider a rebuilding year, I would say he's good for a decent run with us.
7/23/2019 12:14:21 AM
rebuilding year? from what? our great success over the last several years? Really put a drumming on TAMU!
7/23/2019 6:47:08 AM
^From the 2nd most wins in the ACC over the last 2 years, second only to Clemson? We're literally coming off back-to-back 9-win seasons, having multiple All-Americans over that span, even more all-conference, putting a lot of guys in the league, etc. If we can change QBs and avoid dropping off too far(as someone said, 8 wins would be terrific), with the way we've been recruiting the last 2 years, then I think most would agree that Dave has us setup for a really nice 2021 and 2022 season with what we'll have on paper. Really just comes down to the OL solidifying and finding our next starting QB. Goal is to go from past NC State teams where we have to "rebuild" after a couple of good seasons and instead move to the "reload" scenario where 8 wins is a floor even when we lose a ton of good players.

7/23/2019 8:52:54 AM
This is maybe more for the football thread, semi unrelated to the discussion, but with Lawrence at Clem I'm finding it hard to get much excitement about this season. There's plenty we could achieve WITHOUT competing for an ACC title, but when you're kinda out of it before the season starts its a little deflating.
7/23/2019 10:46:31 AM
I agree that knowing clemson is such a machine takes some of the fun away from this time of year. But the battle for second place in the division (granted, an absolute consolation prize is all it is) is wide open. Developing a QB for the future will, hopefully, be a fun thing to see this year. I do think we’re positioned well for 2020 assuming one of the QBs emerges as an ACC level passer. Of course, in 2020 we still won’t be challenging clemson...but we’ll be more veteran and could be a legit top 25 team. Just a lotta unknowns this year...but that’s the case for a lotta ACC teams. We could be anywhere from 5-7 to 9-3 depending on how QB play is and how things shake out with our opponents. Outside of Clemson, I don’t see many (any?) definite losses on the schedule. I’m certainly not predicting 11-1...but the ACC isn’t a juggernaut right now.
7/23/2019 11:30:30 AM
if we started having consistent 10+ win seasons then clemson would make it hard to get excited, but i don't see how that would stand in the way of anything now
7/23/2019 12:25:17 PM
Bc up until last year it was possible to actually beat them?[Edited on July 23, 2019 at 1:10 PM. Reason : Oops double, but both apply]
7/23/2019 1:09:34 PM
Bc it's a relatively new/throwback thing to have an ACC team so dominant?
7/23/2019 1:10:36 PM
7/23/2019 1:24:11 PM
Yea i don't really get that post outside of trolling. I'm not excited bc it feels like we currently have less chance to win the acc then all but a few seasons in the past 15-29 years. If we are winning 10+ every year then our recruiting has prob stepped up and our champ chances would likely be increasing as well.
7/23/2019 1:35:49 PM
I'm trolling and not the post about not being able to get excited for football because of Clemson?lol, yeah okay
7/23/2019 1:51:28 PM
Yeah I don’t get it either. I’m excited to see how this team responds to the turnover on offense and grows. My excitement doesn’t hinge on our ACC Championship chances in a single season.I guess it just depends on what is important to you— some fans might view a season as a single contained unit, some might watch it as part of a continuum. But the truth is football is both a particle and a wave.
7/23/2019 1:57:20 PM
Are you more or less optimistic about our football season now that Clemson is a juggernaut?
7/23/2019 1:58:15 PM
Doesn’t matter to me about Clemson, they are just one game. We have upset teams before. Juggernauts have lost a couple dumb games before. I’m not sure what you mean by optimism.
7/23/2019 2:01:30 PM
it doesn't factor in even a little bit, they've been better than us for a long time
7/23/2019 2:02:00 PM
^
7/23/2019 2:06:05 PM
We are NC State. Since when did (actually) competing for a conference championship factor into any excitement heading into a season?
7/23/2019 2:12:36 PM
7/23/2019 2:16:50 PM
You should only be pessimistic about the season in regards to Clemson if you honestly expect us to be winning ACC titles at this point. Get a few 10-win seasons and top 25 recruiting classes in a row and then maybe start looking at competing for a division championship, but that will take time unless Dabo opts to bounce out of the blue. Clemson is going to be a favorite for the CFP for at least the next 2 years with Lawrence and their recruiting is even crazier for this season and I don't see it slowing down. But hell people were saying Bama was a generational team early last year and you saw how that ended up. An injury to Lawrence would likely take Clemson out of the CFP conversation honestly, so it's not like we have literally no shot.
