Anyone else playing Civilization on the iPhone? It certainly kept me entertained on the flight over to Cali last week.

key words there: "for me"I can type plenty fast with one hand and my thumb vertical so I don't hardly ever use landscape. But I can see why it's useful to other people. Its just how you got accustomed to using the phone like Stein said earlier.

Has anyone found an alternative to the prepaid T-Mobile Sidekick $1 a day unlimited data plan on which the internet was cancelled for on August 11? Or a way around it? T-Mobile got smart on me. I have an iPhone 3G 8GB unlocked with Pwnage Tool with ultrasnow installed as well as support for the t-mobile sidekick prepaid plan via Cydia.

I'm trying to update my apps within iTunes and i'm getting:"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. There is not enough memory available. There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later"I have 6 apps that iTunes is telling me need to be updated but when i look under updates on my iPhone is says all apps are up to date. Seems like lots of people are having this issue. I hate iTunes. Seems like updating one by one works. Anyone else have this issue?

anyone know of a good sports betting app? not one for placing bets or even seeing lines (although tht wouldn't be bad either) but one for keeping track of your own bets?if there isn't one (I havent been able to find one) we should make one
8/26/2009 9:09:45 PM
^^I've had that happen to me. I think it's just an issue with iTunes servers (even though they make it sound like your problem, rather than theirs).

Facebook 3.0 is in the App store now.Sadly enough this is the most exciting thing to happen to me today.

Anyone with a 3GS should check out the latest version of Yelp. It's got a hidden augmented reality feature called monocle that you activate by shaking the iPhone 3 times. Then it allows you to see all the businesses around you through the viewfinder on your camera. It works pretty well. I found out my neighbor runs a business out of her home just from stepping out the door and looking at her house with my iPhone. I guess it's a little gimmicky, but it's pretty neat.
8/27/2009 8:39:34 PM
yeah, new facebook app is pretty good. too bad it doesn't show up as an update. i had to delete/reinstall to get the update for some reason
8/27/2009 8:53:17 PM

^^Showed up as an update for me.
8/27/2009 9:46:33 PM
for a lot of ppl it isn't for some reason.. weird
8/27/2009 9:49:29 PM
i had to go into the app store and download it again to prompt the update
8/27/2009 11:30:36 PM
seeeeeeeeee
8/27/2009 11:30:59 PM
so this is wierd. I take some pictures with my iphone, then I set it down for a sec. I pick it up to take another pic and all of a sudden none of the buttons work. Home, power, volume, or vibrate. If i plug in power or to computer the battery indicator comes up like normal. It also shows up fine in itunes and I made a backup and synced some apps that weren't in itunes yet. Gonna try to reboot it somehow through itunes.
8/27/2009 11:48:18 PM
restore did it. Now i get to enjoy rearanging my apps.
8/28/2009 12:18:59 AM
well, i have a confession...after all my bitching at people that cases are stupid.. i dropped my phone from maybe 2ft and the fucking back CRACKED. i was able to line the two sides back up so now it's no worse than a scratch..but the damn thing literally just fell out of my hand from the bottom of my car door to the ground which is maybe 2ft. and it was on fresh/hot asphalt that really isn't very hard. i've dropped it from much worse than that before without it doing anything.so, time for a 3Gs I believe
8/28/2009 9:04:57 AM
i was with you for awhile, but i bought a case at the beginning of the summer...still never dropped it. But I went to a baseball game last week with some friends and i was sitting in the back of a silverado, opened the door to hop out and i hear a smack. looked down and there was my phone laying on the parking lot after a 4' drop. Scared the crap out of me, but thankfully the softshell/plastic exoskeleton case that i have saved it. but i had a dream last night i was in a boat that sank and my iphone got completely drenched. I think 30 minutes of my dream was spent trying to dry it out and turn it on until my subconscious told me to wake up and check my phone and roll over
8/28/2009 11:26:17 AM
yeah i've dropped from 4' before w no case and it didnt do shiti guess it finally had had enough
8/28/2009 11:31:41 AM
caved in and bought a unlocked 3g 8gb yesterday, it already has about 50+ apps and the dude i bought it from, gave me 180 apps burnt on a cdmost probably gonna gift it to my sister on her birthday next month

been out a while, but the Regator App is kinda cool... usually give it read while pooping or before bed
8/30/2009 7:45:02 PM
Other people might have realized this already, but here goes:I've been listening to WUNC's streaming radio pretty much all day every day at work and in the car, and I was using the NPR app for that. That was annoying because it took like three or four "clicks" to open the app, navigate to the station, and start the stream. So today I figured out that I can browse to the stream in Safari, it will open and autostart in QuickTime (making it one-"click" with a bookmark saved on the main screen),ANDit will play in the background. So, yeah. I was kinda excited about that.
8/31/2009 2:53:10 PM
"There's an [inefficient] app for that?"
8/31/2009 3:56:07 PM
lol yeah
8/31/2009 3:59:57 PM
any talk about the next version doing multitasking? even if they can't make it 100% multi-task right away, at least make it so you can pause your app in use while you take a call.
8/31/2009 4:10:29 PM
I don't know what's wrong with my phone but the lag on every fucking thing I do is ridiculous, especially checking voicemail and whenever I'm typing anythinghas anybody encountered this?
8/31/2009 4:22:04 PM
mine has been like that lately. driving me nuts.
8/31/2009 4:24:06 PM
8/31/2009 4:39:39 PM
^ it's actually up to application writers to make it "pause" properly.
8/31/2009 4:50:33 PM
^I know...I'm just saying it exists. If its not working for a certain app thats all on the developer for being lazy.
8/31/2009 5:18:59 PM
8/31/2009 6:11:33 PM
8/31/2009 6:31:50 PM
yeah, dunno what synapse is bitching about. it works fine for me in most apps. that particular "bug" just means whoever wrote that app did a shitty job. not apple's fault.. the functionality is there.
8/31/2009 6:46:00 PM
good to know, i'll check it out later.any word on multitasking, in general?
8/31/2009 6:49:00 PM
^I think apple addressed that issue back when they announced 3.0. They said the reason they went with PUSH vs. multi-tasking or running apps in the background is because it significantly reduces battery life.
8/31/2009 6:55:16 PM
yeah i remember that too...i guess nothing has changed. if palm can do it why can't they?if it really just comes down to battery life, let us make that decision. give us a button.]

As long as they don't sell me a new iPhone with a 2 year contract, then open it up to verizon a few months later, i'll be cool
9/1/2009 8:33:04 PM
cdma iphone?
9/2/2009 5:48:42 AM
9/2/2009 8:19:02 AM
I'm pretty sure the "interested in running applications in the background" crowd is quite a bit over 5%.I think what you mean to say is that Apple is a "their way or the highway" type company.
9/2/2009 8:26:03 AM
meh, i really don't miss anything about multi-tasking. as long as it saves my shit when i leave an app who gives a fuck? at least it's better than win mobile phone that leave EVERYTHING open in the background to the point that the phone damn near won't operate after a few days of not rebooting it
9/2/2009 8:28:42 AM
Because it's silly that if I'm in my car listening Pandora and want to check the map, my music has to stop?I've got bigger issues with the phone than that, obviously, but it's still pretty silly.
9/2/2009 8:41:02 AM
eh, i agree with that.but backgrounder pretty much solves the problem
9/2/2009 8:42:45 AM
So Apple is having their big event next week on the 9th to showcase what's ahead and the possible return of Steve Jobs. My biggest concern is the iPod Classic. I've only been able to find small snipits that the Classic may cease to exist, but then others saying big changes are in store for the Classic. Has anyone heard or read anything with regards to the Classic, or the entire iPod/iPhone line up as a whole? Apparently this event is "musically focused" so i assume there are some big changes for the iPod family ahead. I'm curious because I really need a large media player to store my music and some video. The iPhone is nice, but i feel strangled only having a brief sample of what i have.let me know if this should deserve its own thread. [Edited on September 2, 2009 at 11:01 AM. Reason : add]
