If brett can do it, anyone can do it. From my post on the last page

Just got my Atrix today, first Android phone I've had. BigEgo, what kind of bloatware did you get rid of? And how? Still a huge noob, plz to forgive.
2/23/2011 3:03:07 PM
does the Atrix feel like a mass of unbridled power?
2/23/2011 4:23:16 PM
I will give an example. I have a really nice $2000 pioneer navigation unit in my car. google maps and navigator run faster on my phone and recalculate with traffic light years faster than my car which is processing everything internally while my phone is at the mercy of ATT. all while other things are processing in the background

I'd love some feedback when you get a chance WesticlesI'm getting a new phone in 2 weeks and this is the one I want. Did you get a lapdock as well?[Edited on February 23, 2011 at 5:18 PM. Reason : .]
2/23/2011 5:18:25 PM
the webtop dock is a piece of shit. do not waste your time or money. you can actually fake your phone out into thinking you hooked one up if you root it and write some shell scripts. also, anyone know why my phone stops charging when connected to my pc at work winxp but charges fine at home on windows 7?
2/23/2011 5:42:40 PM
Feedback after 1/2 day of light use (taught & studied most of the day). Lighter than I expected & a pretty good size (screen & body). Did not get any dock, I have a laptop & an htpc, no need. My first Android device, its pretty snappy. I like the wifi speeds, haven't really tested AT&T's network.Charger is only like 3ft long, minor gripe. Have yet to test cameras. Will get back to you, TWW with the remainder of this review & my mediocre post-teaching reviewing skillz.

Lol well im glad you got it workingMy only complaint so far is the shitty autocorrect abd predictive text
2/24/2011 8:09:48 AM
Kind of weird that it wouldn't see the sd card in recovery. It's usually a good idea to start with a clean slate between major updates anyways and good thing about Froyo is that it automatically starts downloading your previous apps when you sign in for the first time.Nifty video showing number of android activations since oct 08.]

^Is that 2.3 ? Use Swype.
2/24/2011 12:31:04 PM
whoops.http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-halts-epic-4gs-froyo-update-due-data-sd-card-issues
2/24/2011 12:35:39 PM
I turned off AutoCorrect recently. Its pretty much unnecessary if you're using a slideout keyboard, it just fucks the words you're actually trying to type.
2/24/2011 12:40:47 PM
^fuck me. THis will be the last sammy phone I buy.Im stuck with sprint though. Too good a price with my SERO.
2/24/2011 12:40:48 PM
^^Absolutely. It would actually be such a hindrance on the TP2 unless you unlocked/flashed a custom rom it would take 40985045 light years to type a coherent sentence. And even then it was still too slow.
2/24/2011 12:44:17 PM
I just use swype. It works sooo well with two-1GHz Cores

2/24/2011 1:14:04 PM
ha yeah, I found that amusing. The upload rates are higher on Verizon 3G than AT&T's "4G"
2/24/2011 1:46:23 PM
of course the download rates are 3+ times as fast still.
2/24/2011 5:13:15 PM
For now

how much of a battery drain is using WiFi? Not just having it searching all the time, but actually being connectedreason I ask, I couldn't do much of anything multimedia wise on my Blackberry without wifi (no Pandora, videos, etc) but I can do all that stuff now over the 3G network so I haven't even used the Wifi much at all
2/24/2011 5:27:11 PM
I always get significantly better battery life over wifi since verizon's 3g signal fluctuates a lot.
2/24/2011 5:30:25 PM
interesting...cause i figure in general 3G SHOULD use less battery than WiFi, but I have noticed the 3G coverage going in and out sometimes, so I guess if ANY service is constantly looking for a connection it will drain the battery faster
2/24/2011 5:39:34 PM
you'll get much better battery life on wifi than 3G/4G.
2/24/2011 5:42:55 PM
Turn off network discovery in WiFi settings and if you're still noticing a huge drain then toggle it on when you're in range of an AP and turn it off when you're not. 3G, especially if you're in spotty coverage will always have a larger drain than the wifi radio. At one point, when I first bought Tasker I started to set it up to poll my location every once in a while to do this all automatically, but I never finished. I mainly just used it for If Google Maps open then GPS on else turn off.
2/24/2011 5:47:45 PM
so when you turn on wireless for data, it basically turns off 3G for data, but keeps 1G on for phone calls?
2/24/2011 6:19:14 PM
yup
2/24/2011 6:54:45 PM
Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the general theory is that when actually transferring data over the 3G network it requires a significant increase in power from the cell radio than if it were just sitting idle. While the wifi radio is much more efficient when transferring and often times requires a fraction of the time to sync your accounts and pull up pages. An argument could possibly be made against constant 5 bar 3G coverage vs shoddy 802.11b coverage. Whether or not the wifi chipsets actually beef up transmission power to combat weak signals I do not know.tl;dr Turn on WiFi when available for extended periods of time to save battery, but disabling 3G is not necessary.ttl;dr see above post.[Edited on February 24, 2011 at 7:00 PM. good stuff to knowi guess i'll just keep wi-fi on if i'm at home or work, where i always have a wi-fi connection, and turn it off when i'm elsewhere
2/24/2011 7:03:02 PM
That's what I do.http://tasker.wikidot.com/step-throughsFWIW, This is tasker, I have to say it's a pretty sweet app.http://tasker.wikidot.com/low-battery-usage-wifi-enableing-profile-using-wifi-near[Edited on February 24, 2011 at 7:09 PM. Reason : ]

Considering getting either the Samsung Epic or the Evo on Sprint. I've had a Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2 so I do value the keyboard and I'm fine with a little thickness in the phone. Any recommendations?
2/24/2011 8:54:57 PM
dzags i recommend the Evo. you get used to Swype, trust me...if you don't feel you can, get the Evo Shift. I have lost all faith in Samsung and their post launch update capability.TreeTwista10/Akwatic sup? http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-xoom/62823-guide-unlocking-motorola-xoom.html

bahh i was hoping that it would be more complicated than that (and something the atrix could use)]

damn you all, now i'm hooked.

2/25/2011 9:35:06 AM
have you tried *228 option 2? That helps sometimes when the signal is being wonky
2/25/2011 9:57:31 AM
nope, what's that doupdate a service area or something? roaming capability or something?we'll see how it does [Edited on February 25, 2011 at 10:13 AM. Reason : ]
2/25/2011 10:10:39 AM
yeah, option 2 updates the PRL (preferred roaming list) and can sometimes help signal issues.
2/25/2011 10:18:04 AM
My complaints with swype.1) I don't know how to entirely clear the custom dictionary.2) I don't give a fuck that 'duck' was hidden after i manually typed 'fuck' so stop showing that popup.3) Why can't I toggle that anyway, maybe sometimes i want to just type without having to remove tge, yoi and og from my dictionary when my fingers slip. (see #1)

So I rooted and SD rom'd my Nook Color so i could keep both the nook functionality and use honeycomb. All I can say is WOW! It is amazing I just need to play with it more, but so far so good!
2/26/2011 2:06:43 AM
Played with a xoom at best buy the other day and while nice. Definitely not worth the cost especially having to send it in for who knows how long just for the lte upgrade.
2/26/2011 3:05:37 PM
I'd just wait till the LTE update and hope the price has gone down
