I guess Miami's titles in the 80s and 90s are null and void since they were in the Big East

Being forced to give a raise and an extension to a coach that two school's are underwhelmed with is PEAK #NCStateShit

I mean, Doeren got what he wanted...leverage. Now he has to decide whether he wants to take the contract he was hoping to get or take the offer from UT for more money.
11/30/2017 8:13:29 AM
Don't give him that raise to get him to stay. I think he'll get that they don't want him, but his fault for holding out like he's irreplaceable and letting it get shoved in our face. He's not special. Arizona State has a job.
11/30/2017 8:13:45 AM
I love how they want nothing to do with Doeren, but also dont realize thats Duke, Purdue, and NC State coaches who have turned you down who do you really think you are gonna get at this point?
11/30/2017 8:14:24 AM
Looks like we may be battling FSU in a coaching search.
11/30/2017 8:19:02 AM
^^ Jon Gruden, obviously
11/30/2017 8:21:16 AM
Waking up in a world where Dave is worth more than 3M/year.
11/30/2017 9:39:26 AM
he's probably a little underpaid right now, i'm less concerned about giving him a raise than i am about giving him a long contract extension. we showed some good progress this year, but if we move backwards we shouldn't be locked into an expensive buyout and at this point we still can't be certain we won't slide backwards
11/30/2017 9:44:54 AM
^Agreed. I mean we could make a run for Greg SchianoBut other than that, these other names im hearing being thrown around for UT wouldn't come to NCSU.[Edited on November 30, 2017 at 10:08 AM. Reason : sdf]

How bad does Tennessee have to be at football to make NC State over value their mediocre-ass coach?
11/30/2017 10:45:24 AM
Thanks for the memories. Been good knowing ya
11/30/2017 11:43:27 AM
^^overvalue is a bit of a stretch imo...if the reports are true, he's getting offered about $3M from state. that'd put him around 30-40 range nationally in terms of salary. probably lower than that because some private schools don't list their salaries herehttp://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/[Edited on November 30, 2017 at 11:55 AM. Reason : tenn offering $4M+ is over paying. us paying $3M is probably about right]
11/30/2017 11:54:57 AM
Bill Cowher, next nc state football coach
11/30/2017 11:55:22 AM
So #sources say hes gone.
11/30/2017 12:00:39 PM
haven't seen any state #sources saying that but idk nothing would surprise me really
11/30/2017 12:02:15 PM
The fact that there was no statement this morning about his accepting the extension makes me think he’s gone. If he’s thinking this hard, he ain’t staying. And I am completely fine with that.
I don't really want him to leave not necessarily because of him but just because I am not ready for another coaching search and starting over. We have some decent recruits lined up and now we may lose out on some to the cheaters down the road again for in-state competition. Sometimes slow and steady is ok.
11/30/2017 12:05:09 PM
^yeah i feel like stability and continuity are the program's best bet to continue an upward trajectory.
11/30/2017 12:06:28 PM
I agree but if we but out a good extension and he chooses to go somewhere else there is nothing we can really do. I'd rather not overspend or get stuck in a long term deal. Rather go through another search
11/30/2017 12:09:16 PM
^definitely agree. and i guess the positive, if he goes, is that any potential candidates just saw that we are/were willing to fight to keep a coach and show that long term commitment. also, we're in the top 25 currently...so it's not the job would probably look a little more attractive coming off a good season.
11/30/2017 12:13:31 PM
FAKE NEWS.Everything you hear about this debacle is FAKE NEWS.
11/30/2017 12:15:21 PM
he’s staying
11/30/2017 12:36:57 PM
Poor UT turned down by even our mediocre coach haha
11/30/2017 12:37:45 PM
best move for both sides
11/30/2017 12:46:17 PM
He really is not a good decision maker. He should have jumped all over that UT job. He's going to be back in the Mac within the next 3 years.#FreezingColdTakes
11/30/2017 12:46:39 PM
We should be willing to accept him leaving for Arizona State to keep from signing him another 5 years. Not worth it. He is totally capable of 5-6 wins hereout.

Pretty obvious move from Dorean here to use this as leverage to get himself and his staff paid. We probably could have not done anything and he would have stayed, but I think we did the right thing. Win win
