according to pomeroy Costner was one of our worst players in ACC playhttp://sectionsix.blogspot.com/2009/03/final-in-conference-individual-numbers.html

Sean Miller for head coach.
3/13/2009 4:52:57 PM
^^ Also lists Horner as most efficient offensive player
3/13/2009 5:38:33 PM
The only explanation I can come up with for Horner's rating is his low, low turnover percentage that was due mainly to getting very few touches. His nearly 1:1 2FGA to 3FGA ratio really bumped his scoring, too.I'm not going to dig out my copy of Basketball on Paper to figure it out, though.
3/13/2009 5:47:45 PM
I actually thought Horner came on pretty well offensively late in the seasonNot best player on the team well, but better than the nothing we expected out of him. Oh, and his defense was still terrible
3/13/2009 5:50:53 PM
Horner needs to get confidence in his shot. He sometimes looks like he's not going to miss, then other times he looks scared to even be in the game. He's tall enough that he can shoot over people but he's determined to pump fake when anyone is close. I mean that shot he hit late in the shot clock last night with a hand in his face was a thing of beauty...there's no reason he can't do that more often. I will say, that Horner has been one of the bright spots with the exception of the VT game free throw shooting...and again against BC. He played shit D last night but he's usually ok.
3/13/2009 6:22:21 PM
^ if only he could make free throws in the final 3:00 of games.I've been impressed with Horner as well. I do not agree however with Lowe's decision to play Costner and Horner on the floor together. Horner plays well as a relief to Costner off the bench.
3/13/2009 8:35:08 PM
Horner needs to average about 10 more points a game to make up for his defense, maybe more.

Let's keep this thread alive for puposes of offseason recruiting failures.
3/14/2009 2:27:49 PM
we only have one to fail on
3/14/2009 4:41:42 PM
If Wall doesn't come here, I don't think you can put that on Lowe. He's been working on the kid forever now.
3/14/2009 4:49:26 PM
Yes, because an internet thread would be far more effective in helping a recruit make up his decision then being the bottom dweller of the conference and not even getting an NIT bid.I mean really.
3/14/2009 6:01:57 PM
^ what the fuck are you talking about?
3/14/2009 6:09:14 PM
^^I guess you're trying to say if we don't get Wall, then Lowe is at fault.I would tend to say if Wall goes to Memphis, it is because he likes the flash of a program that is currently on fire, dominating its conference, and putting players in the NBA.But whatever, it's Lowe's fault that Memphis wants him too
3/14/2009 6:19:30 PM
Now that recruiting has blown up in our faces is there even a reason to keep this guy around for another season? Why not bring someone in to light a fire under this team? We are going to be awful next year...
3/15/2009 12:55:10 PM
well, My Fire Sidney Lowe thread got locked because some people can't see the writing on the wall. I'm with you Rally, the sooner we get rid of him the better. We all knowed he tried his heart out to get us to be a good team, but he's clearly not cutting it for our program.
3/15/2009 12:57:42 PM
Lowe stays as long as Fowler stays.
3/15/2009 1:18:04 PM
I think we will be better next year.THough leslie decommitting really hurts Sids cred.
3/15/2009 1:22:00 PM
I think our lack of performance is what hurts Sid's credwho the fuck would want to come to a school where players with a lot of potential fizzle and fade away
3/15/2009 2:49:52 PM
3/15/2009 3:04:35 PM
Does anyone still believe that Lowe should not be fired? I don't understand how giving him one more year to fuck this program up even more could be considered a good thing.Your last fig leaf of being a good recruiter is beginning to fall away Mr. Lowe, do the right thing and beg the Pistons for a spot on their staff.
3/15/2009 8:37:47 PM
We can't fire him until Fowler is gone...Well, we could, but we wouldn't get anyone any better.

surely someone that would be worth the effort of ousting our current coachi'm sure Cal wouldn't refuse us twice!
3/15/2009 8:48:22 PM
Even if it was possible (no way) he isn't leaving Memphis b/c he can get whatever he wants there. Also, he has his own steakhouse and a baller house in the old, nice part of downtown. As long as big name OOC teams will schedule Memphis he has no reason to leave.
3/15/2009 8:50:14 PM
haha in the fantasyland in my head I see Calipari getting sick of getting shit for being in a pathetic piss-poor conference and now that they got the 2-seed 'snub' he's looking to find a better conference to 'prove himself'lolbut seriously the only way Fowler would get a better coach was if the coach approached us, like in TOB's case.[Edited on March 15, 2009 at 9:02 PM. Sidney Lowe needs to go.If we can run a good coach like Sendek out of town, we can sure as shit run a half-assed piss-poor one like Lowe out.
3/16/2009 10:23:11 AM
^^^yeah he's awesome.Anyway, another year isn't going to make things better and firing him now won't necessarily make them that much worse. We will lose some commits, but we are losing them anyway. If Lowe could stay here as some sort of WPC executive and adviser to the team that would be great.[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 10:31 AM. Lowe will do a better job next year as his players are developing...who would have thought Horner would mean so much to this team this year.Julius Mays is developing nicely as is CJ WilliamsLo Brown, Howell and the most underrated recruit i've seen in years, Scott Wood, should come in and help immediately.Howell and Brown will challenge for starting positions. We are still going to sign 1 to 2 more players before this class is finishedthe future looks really bright regardless of where Wall and CJL winds up. Plus, CJL is probably going to come here. the big thing is to make sure there is a buffer between him and the Clifton Bros[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 10:34 AM. Reason : r]

guys, recruiting is now suffering and commits are going by the way side. What other reason was there to keep Lowe around? There is a reason he was our seventh choice as head coach. The first six turned us down. It was an experiment and a chance (and sort of desperation) to hire him. It didn't work out. Not many figured it would at the time. I am a firm believer that every coach deserves five years. However, I would make an addendum to that rule: if the coach in question was not one of your top 5 choices when he was hired then he can be let go quicker if it doesn't work out. I say that because I am also a firm believer that a horrible hire as a head coach can set you back many years extremely quickly.Lowes time is up IMO. The one thing that looked promising was our recruiting, but this, over the past couple of weeks, has taken serious hits. I don't see anything to suggest that our program is "on the right track". Not one thing.
3/16/2009 10:38:51 AM

^the emergence of tracy smith is the reason we won games down the stretch, and the better play of javi. both of which were starters. I give lowe credit for their improvement, but they were starters. I guess Horner helped some too.I wouldn't say that our bench even really got all that deeper. As guys like Horner and Williams emerged, guys like Ferguson, Thomas, and Mays disappeared. Players replaced players. Degand was a disappointment for the majority of the year.
