A few my friend took with a Panasonic TZ5 during a hike in the Wind River Range this past summer. During lunch these hummingbirds just flew and started sampling the bright colors of our bags. Luckily my buddy had his camera handy mine was in the bag .

1/27/2009 9:43:19 PM

I just purchased a book written by Michael Freeman called "The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos"I'm excited about it. Anyone know of this book?
1/27/2009 11:41:15 PM
^^didn't i see you on hillsborough with a ring flash once? what happened to that?
1/27/2009 11:44:25 PM
Nope. I'm sure you know better than he does anyway. At least you will as soon as you realize what you do is wrong according to him. Then you'll accuse him of being an elitist dick. Why bother reading it?Sweet ringflash Rob. I want one. I am gonna beat up Jbaz and steal his. [Edited on January 27, 2009 at 11:46 PM. Reason : .]

woah! he's like a tarot card reader... maybe he has a 1200mm to see into the future
1/28/2009 12:13:03 AM
Have you guys heard of Michael Freeman by chance?
1/28/2009 12:14:04 AM
Any of you Nikon guys use CaptureNX 2?Man, i just took the Pepsi Challenge and I must say, CaptureNX2 rocks the socks off LightRoom as far as image quality. My pics look fanstastic with it by default. I don't touch a single thing and theyre perfect. Better than i can do (and did on my old pics) in an hour with LR2. Better colors and tones, sharper, more detail in the highlights and lowlights. No shit, WOW!But what a wrench this throws into my workflow... Capture doesnt have any Library parts.. and I'm so used to LR now.. gah, wtf. Any ideas?[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 12:46 AM. Reason : asas]

What is the Pepsi Challenge? I use CS3 so nooooooooo clue, and I guess I'm weird but I treat each picture individually, slow as hell but whatever.
1/28/2009 12:39:28 AM
http://www.capturenx.com/en/index.htmlGive that free trial (60 days) a shot and let me know what you think.PS and LR both use the same ACR. Are you using the latest camera profiles for ACR 5.3? I'd def recommend that, the "Camera Standard" or "Camera Vivid" are the ones you want to use. But still, they don't touch CaptureNX2 imo. This is amazing.

^^^ Ah yes I love her work in those milk advertisements. But seriously, I like her work on several Vanity Fair Covers.
1/28/2009 11:24:46 AM
official i can't see shit!all i see is the bride leaning on something... a horrible arm pose (elbow crease bulge) no real expression or feeling in the picture.the background looks like black stuff on black stuff with spots of light and black stuff.....i see you still know nothing about light....
1/28/2009 11:31:19 AM
Yeh, give me that wedding shot RAW and let me try with it. We should all play with it and see who can do what. My gf got me "Annie Leibovitz at Work" for xmas. Its a pretty interesting read. Not as technical as i was hoping, but it gave some interesting insight into her thought processing during her shoots.
1/28/2009 11:54:01 AM
Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting it.My battery grip comes in the mail for my 40D. I'm excited as shit. No more awkward arm for vertical shots.

Yeah me too.

Thanks, only PP was a bump in the saturation of the sky. Surprisingly the sky was THAT purple that day.
1/28/2009 5:46:50 PM
That first picture is awesome!
1/28/2009 5:47:58 PM
purple is AWESOME. nice capture.

Here's my Dakota for the page omg angles! hehe I was actually playing with my new softlighter. In trying to figure out the proper distance to subject, I ended up with the umbrella pretty darn close to Dakota's head. Sooo to keep it out of the frame I crawled up close to dakota and apparently canted the camera when I snapped a shot. juuuust a bit.
1/28/2009 6:31:30 PM
DiscProdiG... Your second shot is pretty sweet too
1/28/2009 6:38:54 PM
lol jsnail, pretty sad when you have to explain your reasons for tilting your camera OH GOD SINNERdo want!
1/28/2009 6:47:51 PM
lmao well honestly I don't mind some angles! but this one of Dakota annoys the ever living heck outta me. I keep wanting to rotate and crop but I can't b/c there's no extra dead space to crop away! All things considered though, this was the best shot of the quick [learning] session.
1/28/2009 6:55:14 PM
Dakota has a twinkle of light in his eye. I like it.
1/28/2009 7:04:57 PM
I always like jsnails work. That star trek eye is pretty freaky though hahaha
1/28/2009 7:10:25 PM
pezking, Dakota is a girl. pink collar heheand the starburst type, spider (gross) reflection is from the umbrella. I'll have to put the diffuser on to keep that reflection from showing up. the other reflection (in her right eye) is a piece of white foam board that I used as a cheapo reflector for fill.
