BUTCH DAVIS

we need to help the familes and players to help them understand what a violation exactly is. I apologize for having to go through this, I think I am also very sad that these individ made these poor choices. not only did they jeopardize themselves but also this team and university. As Baddour said, the academic aspect, one of the things that we have said is that football may be over and how critical it is to get a good education and represent UNC is a good manner. I tried to tell them that although football is OVER at UNC you still have obligation to work hard to complete education. I know that these situations that things as head coach i have to do a better job an dpart of this education aspect is that we have put thing in place. such as having kids sign out when they arent going to be on campus or on vacations to keep up with monetary transactions. Anybody that is an angent or whatever woul dhav eto contact us and set up appointment in this building to talk to players. Another important thing is know who CANT provide benefits, agents, alumni, former players and friends. one of the things baddour said, I am proud of our coaches and players an dhow they are playing and I can promise you that moving forward we will restore confidence in school. Great repuation for program and school. we cant snap fingers and change it but i give you my word we will restore that confidence.

can those guys practice?
they will not, dismissed and encouraged to go to class to work towards graduation but not allowed to practice or workout.

talk about this measure, signing out and what not, what limits them from still doing this?
nothing, just own personal integrety. some of the trips werent during school and from their home town

what does this mean having key parts of your team missing?
prior to LSU we had no certainty that anyone would return so we had to adjust, anyone that we have gotten back because they have been cleared or made restituion, those are bonuses.

Were you expecting the worst course scenario?
I had no idea, but the investigation has been secretive, alot of the details hardly anyone is aware of.

Are there anythings about remorse from the players?
I do think they are sad that they hurt and hurt their teammates.

You are saying they werent honest initially?
I didnt say that, I havent had a conversation with them until this morning

not sure of the Question?
If i had known about it i would have loved to get them back on track, we try and tell them to represent the univ in a first class manner. as we look forward one of the things i have remorse for, with the ways we try and educate our players...back in 2007 we had 2 players, as our #s grew we had more and more seminars but I wish we had instead of waiting till year before draft year, maybe talk to them as a freshmen. as we found out with one of these individ. he was a sophomore. you cant assume they cant reach out to freshman and sopho, I have said with days of media there are no guys who arent just thrust into stardom.. If people want to target particular people they can compared to 20 years ago where they had to prove themselves on a field, looking back we should have educated them early in their careers over and over and over.

missed the ?
I think they will have a future, I think the NFL teams will look at what transpired, not playing isnt going to help any of these individ, different teams have different criteria, some will say its no big deal some will say it is a big deal. one of the reasons why I impressed upon them #1 criteria for NE patriots is a college degree. I told all 3 you need a college education and it says a lot about you.

REality these 3 want to become millionaires is this a tough lesson that they wont miss out on any money?
Hope this wont fall on deaf eyes and ears. This is great platform for us to educate kids in this recruiting class and team. a lot will depend on draft day when a player might fall due to this. I said in august I dont think there is one solution, I think it will take a cooperative effort. We need NFLPA to help, the agents association needs to take action. Families need to get involved, Kids are gonna have to do the same thing.

how does this effect future?
I think it brings us closer to closure. As this winds down, kids recognize that we had recruits in this week, they recognize they love this school, the way the team has competed and they respect that.

that was BUTCH DAVIS.

From page 103:

Quote :
"we have a strong compliance program in place in all of these areas and anyone that looks at that program sees we are doing more than needed to protect individuals, obviously we need to do more and we are commited to that."

Wat? That statement contradicts itself. If you are doing enough, then you do not need to do more. Fucking ass clowns running that athletic department. Can't believe UNC hasn't fired DB and BMFD yet. I like how they are placing the entire blame on the players without mentioning old Black Santa.

^that was my favorite part of that presser. That is so typical of their arrogant attitude throughout this process. Absolute gold.

I really hope that some major media outlet would pick up on that and the other ambiguities in the statements and just skewer them in an article.

By firing Butch now they would be admitting there was a lack of institutional control over the program. You guys have to remember that UNC is in complete damage control mode. The future of the athletic program is at stake and they are going to do everything they can to minimize the damage. They aren't interested in getting to the bottom of this and punishing people who f'ed up. They are interested in limiting the amount of damage by figuring out what the NCAA can prove and staying a step ahead. It's all about PR, spinning the truth, and blurring the black and white.

This is a law school and the internal investigation is being run by lawyers. It's their job to defend their clients - not find out the truth - regardless of what they say in press conferences.

If BD goes, it will be b/c they think it will help minimizing the NCAA sanctions or the BOG mandates it. Not b/c UNC is doing the 'right' thing.

He may be gone at the end of the season. But firing him won't end the firestorm coming from the NCAA. UNC is worried about what the NCAA is going to do to them. By keeping Butch around they hope to give the impression that it wasn't a lack of institutional control but just one rogue coach and one rogue tutor. Firing him is an admission that it was institutional within the football program. Then Baddour would have to get's the can b/c he hired BD.

I don't doubt that they both will be gone once the school thinks they are of no use anymore.

If firing BD would be damage control, he'd be gone by now.

Oh, the heavy hand is coming down Ive said that from the beginning.

Butch wont be canned until after the season there is just no point in getting rid of him now.

Short of winning an ACC championship Butch has 0% chance of being back next year.

I think LOIC is better than 50/50, 2 yr postseason ban with loss of scholarships is their BEST CASE scenario.

dood, that is exactly what I'm afraid of. If they end up going to a 7win+ bowl game, all of this will be much easier for them to sweep under the rug.

Poster on packpride freebie w/ "3001" in his name has some info (people think its credible) that he backed up with his previous post record that the payments are not just from the agents and from several prominent boosters, or a group of boosters. Marv got 50k, his coach got 30k right off the bat for the commit. Plenty of others got paid, and one current recruit got paid (who the poster thinks will now de-commit because the money dried up). Also some reference to the Tenn. recruit who was enticed with the cash and has the famous "you a lame yung gunna" tweet.

Apparently a thread was started, and the mods took it down, but supported this guys credibility, someone copied part of it on the general UNC thread, but I am still sorting through all of the BS.

All in all, very interesting evening on packpride.

Butch and Roy, you made the wrong decisions and chose to ignore them. Do the right thing. Nick did.

Now that I think about it, it could get really ugly if we lose over there this year. I know that if I heard one heckler talking to me after this shit - i would be swinging. I was there when "TA was not in" and got spit on.

Fuck them - I am now geographically unable to attend (not that I would give that corrupt organization a dime of my hard earned money), but please be careful if you are attending the game in fagland.

does anyone here think the refs made the right call in that game? I've never heard a single non-UNC fan say "man, I know it sucks but he really wasn't in on that play".

and to note, I was also there, and I was verbally assaulted by UNC fans with little kids nearby

I was there for that game, and while I didn't get spit on, I did witness a classic case of someone whose fashion sense could only be described as "The Carolina Way"

dude in front of me was wearing a baby blue polo shirt, which he was wearing over top of a light green polo shirt...both collars were popped
