just skimmed the article and I can see how a service provider could be concerned more so than Apple should be. But yeah...its still some stinky bullshit.
7/29/2009 3:08:17 PM
i mean no google voice is definitely googles doing, but the constant war against breaking drm or preventing jailbreaking is just apple trying to keep their ipod/iphone/itunes lockin.

^And then of course, there's that. But don't worry, Apple doesn't make stuff that can be affected by viruses or hackers... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQb_Q8WRL_ghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OEH_hcGiuQ[Edited on July 29, 2009 at 3:35 PM. Reason : The commercials say so ...]

I think a self replicating sms virus would be pretty goddamned funny. It infects the phone, SMSes itself to all your contacts and then does a remote wipe.

I'm on a Mac and wondering how yall add themes to your iphone folders such as below(what program is that?)
7/29/2009 4:33:55 PM
wtf are you doing? jailbreak phoneinstall theme from cydia..profit[Edited on July 29, 2009 at 4:44 PM. Reason : and that program is just some kind of SSH/telnet app, nothing special]
7/29/2009 4:43:50 PM
these themes aren't on cydia, so I was going to add them to the directory manually...however it's my first time.
7/29/2009 4:48:19 PM
^ah yes...i remember my first time....
7/29/2009 5:40:46 PM
7/29/2009 5:52:38 PM
typical Apple users... they gloss over 46 security vulnerabilities and discuss how to change their theme.
7/29/2009 6:09:12 PM
yea.... i would be absolutely devastated if a hacker stole my gramma's phone number. obviously my number #1 super priority should be securing my defcon 70 level sekrit data on my iphone
7/29/2009 6:11:58 PM
yea, b/c iPhones only carry phone numbers, and because hackers only care about stealing phone numbers. <psh> but hey my iPhone looks cool.
7/29/2009 6:28:42 PM
^^^^I spent some time searching and landed on cyberduck as well! Works great...first time...a success.
7/29/2009 6:45:12 PM
oh noes - dey stole my app!
7/29/2009 7:15:01 PM
I see.You are intentionally misspelling words in an attempt to emphasize your point.
7/29/2009 7:22:12 PM
^^ what are you in this thread for again?
7/29/2009 7:27:12 PM
The same reason he's in any thread. To interject as much stupid as possible and hope for a reaction. Just ignore him and he'll go away.
7/29/2009 8:19:36 PM
i had to get a replacement iphone today at the apple storeafter flashing back to 3.0 from 3.1 (in the store, i might add, haha), they gave me a new one... i flashed it to 3.1b3 and i'm all purple screen'd...forgot that i needed to change my UDID and the dude who's the agent for our account is on vacation[fail]
7/29/2009 10:00:44 PM
my gps hasn't worked in months. i'm just under 1 year right now, i think.. can i get a brand new one for that?
7/29/2009 10:05:33 PM
[yes]i always do that whether something is wrong or not, i always come up with SOMETHING that is wrong right before the warranty is about to expire so i can get a new one
7/29/2009 10:14:01 PM
I've joined the club! Now to just get some decent ringtones. . . .
7/29/2009 11:12:33 PM
^^ and we wonder why the economy is shit
7/30/2009 12:41:49 PM
Is this iPhone like other phones where I need to run the battery all the way down to before I can hook it up to the computer/charge it so that it doesn't develop a memory?
7/30/2009 4:26:30 PM
^^ but Apple is making record profits...
7/30/2009 4:55:22 PM
^^umm what? I didn't know batteries had memory cells
7/30/2009 4:59:56 PM
You've never heard that before? That if you start charging a battery before it is all the way dead that it doesn't charge fully after that. I could be wrong, hence the question.
7/30/2009 5:08:31 PM
no. I have heard that batteries have a limited number of full cycles before they're rendered useless.
7/30/2009 5:09:21 PM
^^it's called the memory effect, and it's typically in NiCd rechargeables, but other factors such as age, use, overcharging, etc. have also been referred to (but aren't the same) as the memory effect, it's somewhat of an urban legend, but helps people describe decreased capacity seen in rechargables over time. the phenomenon is common. the factors vary though.[Edited on July 30, 2009 at 5:22 PM. 7/30/2009 5:23:48 PM
^But there already IS a 40% tax on all appl......Oh I see what you did there
7/30/2009 5:53:31 PM
So back to the original question, am I going to cause harm to my battery by plugging it in at like 50% or whatever?
7/30/2009 6:18:06 PM
Most modern day batteries, no. But it's not ideal as it will reduce your battery life, it'll probably very very minimal. The best thing you can do with your battery is with the VERY FIRST time you charge it, let it charge fully, then DRAIN the battery fully. Then recharge. Do this the very first time and it makes a huge difference. Preferably do this everytime, but it's not always the case.
7/30/2009 6:22:32 PM
Thank you very much. When I got it yesterday it was at like 50% so I let it run until it died and then charged it all the way. I ask this because I want to add some songs and ringtones and I know it will want to charge at the same time.
7/30/2009 6:55:26 PM
OMG you guys are freakin' amazing. That site that was mentioned a few pages back where you can upload songs and create your own ringtones is amazing. Sadly, or at least from what I've found, you can only use ringtoneish noises for alarms, so I just made a ringtone out of whatever I wanted to wake up to. Haha. This is waaaaay too cool.
7/30/2009 10:49:12 PM
^there are ways of getting ringtones on there namely, convert to an m4a and rename it to m4r. copy to your itunes library, sync, and voila.
7/30/2009 11:00:24 PM
7/30/2009 11:21:26 PM
^^Yes yes, I read that but that site does the work for me. ^Hmm. So usage only between 25%-55%? But I do greatly appreciate the assistance. [Edited on July 30, 2009 at 11:23 PM. Reason : .]
7/30/2009 11:21:31 PM
^^i think it's from the lithium-ion days because both my samsung phone and compaq laptop tell me to do the full drain / full charge thing before first use.8000![Edited on July 31, 2009 at 12:05 AM. Reason : .]

first time tethering...cool stuff. no more moments without a connection...the shit is in my pocket. boom.

7/31/2009 9:12:19 AM
anybody else tried the iDisk app?
7/31/2009 10:26:25 AM
^me, yesterday. It works really well but is lacking in features. Still great for a free 1.0 app release.
7/31/2009 10:27:19 AM
Well Apple did it now, they've gone and started pissing off the prominent bloggers ....http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/31/AR2009073100971.html
7/31/2009 10:34:16 AM
it's a pretty cool... i linked iDisk to a network drive in windows also which makes it a little more useful than the web interface. nothing earth shattering but certainly useful.[Edited on July 31, 2009 at 10:36 AM. Reason : although the network drive seems slower than balls..my drives via hamachi are a lot faster]
7/31/2009 10:35:20 AM
^^lol that is the dumbest thing I've read. He has scarce AT&T coverage in his area and he wonders why he gets dropped calls?also if he's such a google fan boy why not get a G1?[Edited on July 31, 2009 at 10:36 AM. Reason : ^]
7/31/2009 10:36:26 AM
7/31/2009 10:37:30 AM
yea, that's a stupid fucking reason among the other ones he's pointed out. esp when the fucking app is on cydia anyways.ps i'm getting a whopping 5kb/sec uploading to iDisk. fuck that.[Edited on July 31, 2009 at 10:44 AM. Reason : a]
7/31/2009 10:39:15 AM
It's not an outright deal break for me, but Apple would do well to reconsider their position on the Google Voice app. It's a fucking awesome service and getting it fully integrated into the iPhone would be great. If other comparable phones (like the Palm Pre) get on board with Google Voice, it's definitely something that could influence my decision to stay with the iPhone when my contract runs out.
