I'm addicted to pasta. I could eat it for three meals a day if it were good for me. I think that is the only thing I will truly miss.Hah... probably not the expected post for the top of a new page in this thread. So, I will put it back on track. I was taught how to do a proper jackknife yesterday. My abs hate me today. [Edited on November 15, 2011 at 1:01 PM. Reason : ]

Try quinoa pasta! Actually tastes better IMO A lot of stores have it now, too
11/15/2011 1:01:48 PM
i was just going to suggest quinoa pasta. my doctors wrongly diagnosed me with a gluten allergy a few years ago and even though i am actually not gluten intolerant, i have found a love for quinoa pasta. rice pasta SUCKS - do the quinoa it doesn't stick to the pot (add a bit of olive oil just to be safe).

Now that the year is coming to an end, I'll give my personal updates, based on goals posted on 12/28/2010:
11/17/2011 3:51:46 PM
I haven't completed any of my New Years goals.
11/17/2011 3:53:08 PM
What nutritional supplements do y'all take?I take calcium supplements (I'm lactose intolerant, so it's hard to get enough calcium), a women's pre-natal vitamin and glucosamine supplements. Is there anything else that's good to take to help with athletic performance and overall health?I wish I could do protein shakes with lots of vitamins ... those typically turn my stomach.

i had no goals at the start of the year.so i guess i well exceeded my expectations
11/18/2011 10:44:44 AM
^^ Congrats on accomplishing your goals!I just signed up for the Rugged Maniac race down in Jacksonville. There is a 1/2 off living social coupon for anyone interested. I did it for the first time last year and had a great time.

Just had one of my female clients run a sub 2:00 half-marathon (her first race longer than a 5k). She only ran 3 times in the 2 months leading up to the race. That just goes to show you, how little you have to run to get a decent time. On a personal note, I still hate running.
11/18/2011 3:04:44 PM
I quite literally rolled out of bed one morning at 7 AM and did a 2:05 half marathon. Honestly, 10 minute miles for 13.1 miles isn't that difficult. It was in April, I ran about every other day, never more than 5 miles on any given day in January, then did absolutely no running in Feb, March, or April.I need to get my ass back on the bike, out on the road, and into the pool immediately. Still want to do a half ironman distance tri next year. Could be tough considering I've done none of the three disciplines in at least 3 months.[Edited on November 18, 2011 at 3:16 PM. I do need some new fitness goals. After I do the half iron man in 2012 I'll have done quite a few "milestone" type things.half century bike ride - check (on multiple occasions completely solo)century bike ride - check (with one other person, 151 miles actually)mile swim - check several times overhalf marathon - checkI have no desire to do a full marathon, although I have no doubt that I'm capable of it. Like packman92 I loathe running. Pretty much burned myself out on it as a kid.Anyone have any suggestions... I'm much more motivated when I have an end goal in mind. I'm willing to try just about anything, although something new would probably be best.
11/18/2011 3:31:10 PM
If you're relatively in shape, you can run a half-marathon in a short amount of time.I have little to no time to work out these days due to my work schedule. I used to work out a couple of hours a day. Now I'm lucky to carve out 30 minutes for a quick run. I used to run fast. Now I'm just happy that I can run, clear my mind and enjoy 20 to 30 minutes of alone time.I don't really think time matters ... it's just a matter of getting yourself in shape to reach a goal. As long as you're happy and healthy, then you've achieved something that you should be proud of.
11/18/2011 3:55:56 PM
If you enjoy mountain biking (or want to try it), try ORAMM http://www.blueridgeadventures.net/oramm/63 mile bike ride, off road, 11k ft of climbing. Most riders are gonna do it in 6.5+hrsThat's my next endurance goal. In the meantime, I am having alot of fun doing cyclocross races most weeks.[Edited on November 18, 2011 at 4:08 PM. Reason : d]

I don't think maximum strength is a goal everyone should be interested in.
11/18/2011 7:40:28 PM
just thinking about lifting that heavy makes my joints hurt now
11/18/2011 7:44:39 PM
Some good goals:Blood pressure of 120/80 or belowLow stressPositive body image
11/18/2011 7:45:54 PM
my only fitness goal is to not break out into a sweat when I eat meals.
11/18/2011 7:56:41 PM
w00t! 96/66 bp check low stress, check positive body image, check
11/18/2011 7:57:28 PM
11/18/2011 10:17:44 PM
At last check my bp was around 100/70, my resting pulse was in the 50s. It's probably not that good now, but I can't imagine it's gotten significantly worse.Maybe I will get back into more serious weight training, but I doubt I'm going to pursue a 500# deadlift.
11/19/2011 6:53:50 AM
I agree that strength is a GOOD goal to have. That being said, not everyone wants to be "as strong" MattI think a more general guideline would be:2 x Bodyweight deadlift1.5 x Bodyweight squat1 x Bodyweight Press
11/19/2011 7:12:26 AM
I will back track a bit and say the goals I posted would take a serious trainee, with average genetics, about 2-5years of competent training to hit.I almost on my third year of proper training methodology and I'm about 10% away.[Edited on November 19, 2011 at 7:53 AM. Reason : ;]
11/19/2011 7:53:11 AM
I think most people with a little work could acquire the standards I stated (the press might be iffy)...but I agree it would take more dedication and a good program/diet to hit the numbers you want/postedMy own goals resemble yours, except I also want to snatch 200+ and Clean&Jerk 250+
11/19/2011 8:13:43 AM
So according to Matt, my goal lift numbers should be the same as begonias'? Choosing arbitrary numbers certainly makes more sense than considering the size of the person.
11/19/2011 8:36:11 AM
Skwinkle, it all depends on your own goals. If you want to be stronger than Begonias, yea, you've got to lift heavier than her.Of course, different people's anthropometry (body dimensions) and weight will give them an advantage in certain lifts and skills. Some people are blessed, some cursed, but the great thing is hard work and proper training can close the genetic gap significantly. However, we live in a concrete world. Someone who can lift squat 300lbs is stronger than someone who can't (within the context of leg strength). This is why there are sports with weight classes, and there are also sports with out them. Relative strength is very important; but overall strength is too.[Edited on November 19, 2011 at 8:50 AM. Reason : moar words]

this a very personal questionI'll accept "fuck off" as an answerdo you still get your period?your body fat has to be off the charts low for a female
11/19/2011 4:37:45 PM
Everybody has different preferences for what they like in body type, but she is definitely not unhealthy.I might like a tad more thickness, but I think she looks great. I also respect the hard work and discipline it takes to look like that. So kudos iheartkisses!
11/19/2011 4:54:36 PM
Yes, I get my period. I'm around 15 or 16% body fat, which is normal for an endurance runner. Scary low for a woman is 10 to 13%, which is okay for bodybuilders and figure/fitness competitors, but only when they're competing. I'm normal for a female athlete.

zumba: hot or not?
11/20/2011 5:48:37 AM
^ Zumba is fun!!!! And a great workout.^^ I was around 150 lbs there and my doctor told me I should probably lose some weight. Both are healthy weights. The 150 was rough on my joints during longer runs.
11/20/2011 6:53:23 AM
Way hotter at 150Simple solution....stop running
11/20/2011 7:26:05 AM
So no exercise at all? Or weights?I don't belong to a gym, so running is the easiest exercise. And most enjoyable. Would prob lose muscle if I stopped running, which would be bad.The bf prefers current size over 150 lbs option.[Edited on November 20, 2011 at 7:38 AM. Reason : K]
