I agree Shaka would recruit better. But as we've seen, recruits don't always translate to wins. The thing that makes me have more faith in Marshall is that he's been coaching much longer and has been consistent. Shaka's had a miracle run and that's it.

I'm going to make this easy to digest, xisnenez, because you have throughly shown yourself to be a fucking moron over the course of this thread

Follow along

"Marshall looks like he could at least do as well as Herb, so yeah, I think he could."

He's had 13 years to do that. He hasn't. I think that's an exhaustive exhibition of his mediocrity.

Quote :
"Shaka couldn't do better than 4th and 5th in his conference "

I'm not a fan of Shaka's CAA finishes, but whatever, it was good enough to get to the dance. It doesn't matter if you or me or Jay Bilas doesn't think VCU shouldn't have been invited. The selection committee liked them, and that's what counts.

Quote :
"but hey, a F4 run means he's gonna run shit in the ACC!!!"

You pulled this straight out of boozie's playbook. His tourney run doesn't mean he will do anything at a major program. But it shows that he can. Marshall hasn't shown he can do anything notable.

I've repeated these points in like five posts now, but I'm hoping this time you'll actually read them, understand them, and not try to completely ignore them in your pursuit to make a total ass of yourself.

A master debater. Everyone who doesn't agree with the guy who hated Shaka's guts up until the final minutes of the elite 8 is a fucking idiot. Well played.

Nobody's arguing for every coach that has ever been to a final four

We're arguing against the guy who has been coaching for 13 years and never done anything in a tournament

excuse me, he did win the NIT which is better than a sweet 16

GT fired a coach that got them to the championship game for a coach that's only won 1 NCAA game in 8 seasons. Just saying.

This is why I'm high on Shaka. We're not going to get a proven big time coach and Gregg Marshall has already proven he's not a big time coach. I'd rather take the risk on Shaka.

lets hire paul hewitt. one time my freshman year he yelled "HEY FUCK YOU" at somebody in the student section behind the GT bench, while being held back by an assistant coach.

I don't remember Dr. Yow saying anything about low-risk. I did hear her say something about college coaching experience though. Perhaps that's what you're referring to.

Shaka is like playing strip poker with 1 super model and 3 dudes. A definite risk but possibly a pretty damn good reward.

Marshall is like playing strip poker with three little old ladies. At best you are gonna see some saggy T&A.

You can ignore the derision if it bothers you. Underneath you'll find an air-tight argument, solid fucking gold.

You're all over the place. Just throwing shit against the wall. You're a baboon.

Maybe sit this page out, think about what you're actually trying to say, and come back on 102 with something less embarrassing.

Look, realistically we have two candidates. Marshall and Shaka. And honestly Shaka is looking like more and more of a longshot. It'll probably take $2+ million to get him and if he fails we could be in GT-style money troubles. So from that standpoint alone, BIG RISK.

Marshall has more experience and he's consistently improved programs. Shaka is "meh" during the regular season and well, he's having a hot run boosted by other-worldly 3 point shooting.

Marshall has been in the NCAAT a bunch and only won once. But consider the circumstances. Winthrop. Low major. 14 and lower seeds. Makes it hard to win. Look at his tournament record in context.

Overall I just think Marshall is the guy that could get us to 10-ish wins a season. Shaka might. That's why I think Marshall > Shaka.

Moot point probably. Like I said, everyone is presuming that we can get Shaka.

Not sure what makes Marshall any less of a risk than Smart. So he had a ton of years at Winthrop? That's low major. Smart has about as many years and more success at a midmajor and some high major assistant experience.

Turgeon took WSU to the tourney. Marshall has not.

Irrelevant. Herb did it with a 10-seed. Smart did even more with an 11-seed.

I don't know why anyone would think we can't get him. Does everybody think all these mid major coaches are gonna start pulling a Brad Stevens? VCU is in fucking Richmond, and Shaka is from Wisconsin. Do you really think he's gonna be all like "you know, I really like Virginia"? I don't for a second.

So because Sloan did it in a completely different era, with 6 years at a high major, and then went on to win a national championship and coach some of the best teams the ACC has ever seen Marshall, who has never sniffed a high major job will do the same thing.

Depends if he thinks he'll have more success getting to the dance at VCU vs. State. Recent history suggests he'd have a tougher time here. Plus, the pressure to win goes up exponentially.

Winthrop was an 11-seed his last year at Winthrop, still no sweet 16.

And 10/11 seeds have higher winning percentages than 14-16 seeds because they are better teams, not because of some inherit magic in seed numbers. So, again, something else you suck at. It's Marshall's own fault it took him 9 years to climb to an 11-seed.

Quote :

I don't know what this even supposed to mean. I'm not comparing Turgeon and Marshall. I'm responding to the claim that Marshall has improved WSU, which was one year removed from a tourney appearance when he took the job.

Sloan would have had to beat out Kentucky and Rupp. Arguably the greatest program of all time and arguably the greatest coach of all time. Marshall can't beat out who exactly?

If McKillop (a good coach in his own right) could find a player like Curry and go to the Elite 8 at a low major, why couldn't Marshall at his low major?

Oh so that's the secret, you just have to find one of those once-in-a-generation kids that can hit 3's from anywhere on the floor. If you don't snag one you suck at recruiting.

yow isn't going to hire someone based on numbers and their past alone. we can argue all we want, but ultimately this isn't our decision to make.

you should all figure out how to spend your time until some real information comes out

I want you to go look at the recruiting ratings for Wichita State players the past few years and compare them to the other MVC teams. I bet you'll find teams like Drake are kicking Marshall's ass. Then, report back to us....on page 102.

Yes, I'm incompetent because of my opinion on one coach versus another. Both coaches have pluses and minuses. You and I disagree on some of the circumstances surrounding Marshall. THAT'S IT. I put my point out there and you attacked me. Call it a weak argument all you want but at the end of the day:

Marshall will be our coach.

So you might as well quit following the Wolfpack.
