I agree Shaka would recruit better. But as we've seen, recruits don't always translate to wins. The thing that makes me have more faith in Marshall is that he's been coaching much longer and has been consistent. Shaka's had a miracle run and that's it.

I'm going to make this easy to digest, xisnenez, because you have throughly shown yourself to be a fucking moron over the course of this threadFollow along

Nobody's arguing for every coach that has ever been to a final fourWe're arguing against the guy who has been coaching for 13 years and never done anything in a tournamentexcuse me, he did win the NIT which is better than a sweet 16
3/31/2011 11:31:14 PM
GT fired a coach that got them to the championship game for a coach that's only won 1 NCAA game in 8 seasons. Just saying.

Damn dude take it easy. It's a basketball coaching thread. On the internet. People have differences of opinions sometimes. It happens.

I don't care that our opinions differ. That's cool, actually. But I'm not going to let you slide on wallowing in shit. Step up your ability to communicate a relevant point or go get your fucking shinebox.]

lets hire paul hewitt. one time my freshman year he yelled "HEY FUCK YOU" at somebody in the student section behind the GT bench, while being held back by an assistant coach.(he's no billy donovan though )

Shaka is like playing strip poker with 1 super model and 3 dudes. A definite risk but possibly a pretty damn good reward.Marshall is like playing strip poker with three little old ladies. At best you are gonna see some saggy T&A.

Look, realistically we have two candidates. Marshall and Shaka. And honestly Shaka is looking like more and more of a longshot. It'll probably take $2+ million to get him and if he fails we could be in GT-style money troubles. So from that standpoint alone, BIG RISK.Marshall has more experience and he's consistently improved programs. Shaka is "meh" during the regular season and well, he's having a hot run boosted by other-worldly 3 point shooting.Marshall has been in the NCAAT a bunch and only won once. But consider the circumstances. Winthrop. Low major. 14 and lower seeds. Makes it hard to win. Look at his tournament record in context.Overall I just think Marshall is the guy that could get us to 10-ish wins a season. Shaka might. That's why I think Marshall > Shaka.Moot point probably. Like I said, everyone is presuming that we can get Shaka.
3/31/2011 11:39:34 PM
Damn, Ernie calling people out on page 101.
3/31/2011 11:39:53 PM
Not sure what makes Marshall any less of a risk than Smart. So he had a ton of years at Winthrop? That's low major. Smart has about as many years and more success at a midmajor and some high major assistant experience.

So because Sloan did it in a completely different era, with 6 years at a high major, and then went on to win a national championship and coach some of the best teams the ACC has ever seen Marshall, who has never sniffed a high major job will do the same thing.
3/31/2011 11:44:25 PM
3/31/2011 11:44:27 PM
yes, lets compare from a completely different era. (BEFORE AT LARGE TEAMS)
3/31/2011 11:44:49 PM
Everett Case, Jim Valvano, Norm Sloan had all of 2 NCAAT appearances and 1 NCAAT win.[Edited on March 31, 2011 at 11:45 PM. Reason : ^Lol it's the same for Marshall in a one-bid league there idiot]

Sloan would have had to beat out Kentucky and Rupp. Arguably the greatest program of all time and arguably the greatest coach of all time. Marshall can't beat out who exactly?

3/31/2011 11:49:12 PM
If McKillop (a good coach in his own right) could find a player like Curry and go to the Elite 8 at a low major, why couldn't Marshall at his low major?
3/31/2011 11:50:48 PM
3/31/2011 11:52:12 PM
You seriously should have followed my advice.

yow isn't going to hire someone based on numbers and their past alone. we can argue all we want, but ultimately this isn't our decision to make.you should all figure out how to spend your time until some real information comes out
3/31/2011 11:53:47 PM
We're trying to better you as a human being. I would hate to encounter someone displaying this level of ineptitude in real life. If I can do something to improve that, it's worth my effort.]
3/31/2011 11:54:17 PM
I want you to go look at the recruiting ratings for Wichita State players the past few years and compare them to the other MVC teams. I bet you'll find teams like Drake are kicking Marshall's ass. Then, report back to us....on page 102.
3/31/2011 11:54:19 PM
Idiot
3/31/2011 11:54:25 PM

3/31/2011 11:58:29 PM
Yes, I'm incompetent because of my opinion on one coach versus another. Both coaches have pluses and minuses. You and I disagree on some of the circumstances surrounding Marshall. THAT'S IT. I put my point out there and you attacked me. Call it a weak argument all you want but at the end of the day:Marshall will be our coach. So you might as well quit following the Wolfpack.
