They're saying that it's stupid that NC State had to cover their asses by forcing down the John Wall facebook group^no one in conference is planning to transfer to any other in conference school right now.]
4/14/2009 10:56:54 PM
Oh well that's just dumb; especially to make a big deal about it to make our athletic department look bad.

I watched Hoop Dreams on Hulu.com last night after hearing how good the movie was. That was a pretty good documentary, despite the length. After watching it I am even more in favor of limiting the involvement of the shoe companies with these kids and I am in favor of the NCAA policing the recruitment of these kids even more. There are some shady characters and "scouts" out there. That Nike ABCD camp was crap and probably still is. Yeah the coaches that attend can see if players can shoot and dribble, but all of the players that attend these types of camps aren't playing team ball, they are playing for themselves. You could see it when Gates would be working real hard to get open and the guy with the ball instead of passing to him would take a contested jump shot. How do these camps show how good of a teammate that these players are and if they are even coachable? It was cool seeing William Gates' recruiting visits with Kevin O'Neill (the guy that was the interim coach of Arizona 2 years ago) when he was at Marquette and part of his official visit to Marquette. They showed him around the arena, put his name up on the scoreboard, and introduced him. In one of the luxury boxes they played a tape for him of the Marquette radio announcer calling a fictitious late game situation in a close game against Notre Dame in which Gates hit a buzzer beater. These things are now outlawed by the NCAA for some odd reason. It was sad, but the movie showed that we used to be a big time program. Besides Marquette, Gates was being recruited by Indiana, Kansas, and State. At one point during the movie you could see Gates wearing a black NC State hat.

^I'm gonna have to check that movie out, it sounds interesting.

The transfer story Big Ego is referring to is Trey Thompkins, who is at UGA and has possibly inquired about whether or not his services would be welcome at NC State. It's on the UGA board, or at least it was.
4/15/2009 12:12:15 AM
It's 2 hours and 51 minutes in length. So yeah you won't be going anywhere for awhile, but it is worth it, and passes by pretty quickly.http://www.hulu.com/watch/28514/hoop-dreams?c=Sports[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 12:15 AM. Reason : ]

^I saw that movie in Theology class of all places back in High School. Very good.
4/15/2009 7:26:31 AM
Is Trey Thompkins any good. I don't want a Marques Johnson type situation again.
4/15/2009 8:41:53 AM
^4 Stars, #9 & #11 PF in '08 (per scouts and rival), so i think he's better than johnson.

hoops dreams was one of my favorite movies back in elementary school
4/15/2009 9:00:02 AM
Simply going by Thompkins profile, he's an animal on defense and on the boards. That's really all we need.He made the SEC all-freshman team, for what it's worth.
4/15/2009 9:29:04 AM
What are the chances of him actually coming here? Why does he want to transfer?

^^^^ holy shit i'm getting old in addition to that flick, anyone remember the "Prep Hoops - Chicago" reality/documentary show back in ~ 2000? followed around eddy curry and some others during their senior seasons. did a great job juxtaposing the inner city chicago high school players and the kids who were stars on the suburban teams. was a great show, hated that there weren't additional seasons.ok, back to discussions of john wall and mystery transfers....[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 9:43 AM. 4/15/2009 10:11:46 AM
^^ well you never actually shared any information, you just let people know that you knew something (which, turns out, wasn't true). so fine by me.

fwiw my sn is Brass Monkey with a space. i know people can't usually see the space b/c of the way the name usually shows up, but i just wanted to point it out. whenever you do the user tags and don't put the space in it tags a user called brassmonkey who copied me and only has 32 posts.

We just got up a the last Luke Cothron video and it's surely the best one in the sense that it show cases his shot, his dribble and his passing. http://wolfpackhoops.blogspot.com/2009/04/video-luke-cothron-2009-boo-williams_15.html**also the Wall rumor is certainly true, and at least trying this route was probably the Cliftons thought all along. Yesterday Wall also said that "staying close to home" has become the #1 factor in where he want to go to school.
4/15/2009 2:22:14 PM
^ just like the Cousins rumor, right?
4/15/2009 2:29:30 PM
OH SNAP
4/15/2009 2:30:47 PM
oh don't tease me. i think i should lay off the State fan sites for awhile. i'm flying to Cleveland tomorrow, return Friday, and immediately drive to Raleigh afterwards. it will be good to get away from the internet for the next few days. hopefully more comes out on the rumor when I come back to Charlotte.
4/15/2009 2:33:09 PM
^^^you are a fucking idiot. The only Cousins "rumor" they posted was that someone close to the situation felt pretty good about him coming here.[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 2:33 PM. Reason : d]
4/15/2009 2:33:29 PM
we'll see who the fucking idiot is when John Wall doesn't show up here in the fall.
4/15/2009 2:35:33 PM
Yes exactly like the Cousins rumor...which was from a source as close to the program as you're going to get. And here's the quote from the ESPN chat where Wall stated it himself. "Mike (Denver, Colorado): To John Wall: John, what would you say is the most important factor for you in making your college decision? i.e. Coaching style, playing close to home, TV exposure?SportsNation John Wall: Staying close to home, making sure I get along with the coach, the community of the school. You have to feel that you feel safea nd like a family. "you want a link too??? http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=25978
4/15/2009 2:37:34 PM
^^That still wouldn't prove a goddamn thing about their journalistic reputation. The "rumor" they posted is that he is looking into a loophole that would allow him to jump straight to the NBA. How would him not being at State next year (likely) even remotely mean that their rumor was disproved?[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 2:38 PM. Reason : d]
4/15/2009 2:37:41 PM
If you try and look objectively and take everything Wall has said in to account, it still isn't too promising to us. I'm not talking about what peoples sources say or trying to read between lines. But actually look at his quotes. He wants to play for a program who can win a title. Even with Wall, we aren't that team. It's nice that he wants to stay close to home, if that is actually true, but all that means is Duke fans must be walking around today with hard-ons if you look at everything he has said...
4/15/2009 2:40:29 PM
Im under no delusions that John Wall is coming here. As far as I am concerned, that ship sailed a long time ago. I am just responding to OhBoyeee trolling again.Isn't it about time for another extended timeout for this retard?
4/15/2009 2:43:09 PM
The Wall to the NBA thing is not a rumor at all. It's in the N&O's blog, on a Kentucky recruiting site, and being reported by Chad Ford of ESPN.and PS. we never ever hinted that NC State was getting Wall. We're just covering him closely just like any recruit since we're on his list[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 2:45 PM. Reason : sp]

People are saying UNC has "no chance" but I don't buy that until he officially rules them out. Lets face it, UNC is a pretty damn attractive school to any kid they'll take right now. Far more than any other school in the country IMO...

Don't get me wrong Bullet, I would absolutely love to have Wall come to NCSU next year. What I don't love is people posting things such as "we've just increased our chances of landing Wall to 25% to 30%", but following up with, something along the lines of, "I can't tell you why right now, because I was told not to say anything."That's stupid, IMHO, and it usually turns out to be complete bullshit. See the wolfpackhoops.com "article" about how their inside sources felt fantastic about us landing Cousins.
