101 pages of lolololololololYou do realize lowe did that last year and got us last in the conference OUr best player was hickson, he played from day 1some people didnt like thatThankfully Ben didnt throw a hissy fit when smiff got inserted into the starting line upand as you mentioned, Lowe is learning on the fly. Quite a daunting taskcredible lowe is on 101[Edited on March 5, 2009 at 7:47 PM. Reason : 101]

^^you actually got me there b/c i was 100% against hickson starting from day 1 about it and ranted and raved about itthat said, i still hold the position that costner was our best player and mccauley could be better than hickson most times b/c hickson was a frosh who needed to learn and put on some weight and ws up and down all season. i def think hickson had peaks higher than any of our other players but both costner and mccauley had better 07 seasons than hicksons 08 season, as overall players, IMO.[Edited on March 5, 2009 at 8:04 PM. ^^those 2 also played with a really good perimeter 1/2 guard in atsur in 07. I agree with the point though....although I think if Hickson showed that he was better than Ben in practice, I have no problem with him starting from day 1. He dropped like 33 in that game IIRC. You run into a real problem in the long run if you play upper classmen over younger guys who are clearly better than them. Maybe not the first game of the season, but there are people here who thought JJ should have come off the bench all year which is absurd. We have no idea what was going on in practice. If McCauley just wasnt playing well, then that sends the wrong message to the team and to him. He really dealt with the situation poorly. I'm glad to see that he's recovered and matured from it which is what I think Lowe was talking about during his post-game last night. I think as a whole, our seniors (including brandon) have been hurt by a lack of playmakers at the guard positions. They all seem like they never lived up to potential and thats the one constant from the last 3 seasons. I don't include coach Lowe in that because I think you saw flashes where Lowe has really been great for them, and in general, Lowe wins and everyone plays better when we get good (albeit inconsistent) guard play.

You mean after the stellar play of Courtney Fells at the point that we saw in Year 1?
3/5/2009 8:42:46 PM
like i said, feel free to let GG bring it up courtboth of them were still better options last year than any of our actual PGsand even if you want to change up the guards, my rationale was that Grant and Fells should both be starters...even if you brought one off the bench, my main argument is find a way to start Ben, Brandon and JJ, similar to our lineup now with 3 bigsi doubt there would have been as many issues with guys upset about lack of playing time, since all the bigs would have played more minutes[Edited on March 5, 2009 at 8:44 PM. think of the turnovers with that line-up just at the 1,2, and 3
3/5/2009 8:54:54 PM
grant had a ton of turnovers his senior year, but most of them were imo from lazy passes, which still hurts our team sometimes even nowbut last year i had more confidence in gavin and courtney's ability to bring it up court than any of our PGs...luckily our PGs are playing better this year, especially in the 2nd half of the season]
3/5/2009 8:58:56 PM
^^Because Javi and Degand didn't turn it over last year.Javi at least has improved this year. Degand has gotten worse. And now Mays doesn't play at all for some reason.

With Herb it was; probably make the NCAA and not go far. With Lowe its been; please make the NIT. ...just saying...careful what you wish for.

i've explained my stance before, but w/ sendek we didn't beat the teams we wanted to beat, didn't win the acc and didn't do anything of significance in the ncaa tournament.right now we're not beating the teams we want to beat, we're not winning the acc and we're not playing in the ncaa tournament.so aside from stats, what's the difference?
3/6/2009 2:40:58 AM
1) I don't know about you, but I want to win every game.2) NCAA Tournament, obviously. Playing in the NCAA Tournament > Not playing in the NCAA tournament. NCAA Sweet 16 >>>>> NIT Quarterfinals.

^I don't think he disagrees with the sweet 16 being better than nit, but losing to texas like we did in 06 and the end of that season was every bit as unsatisfying as the 9 game losing streak at the end of last season. at least lowe has a damn excuse (lack of talent at PG, inexperience, etc.)shit even when we played Wisconsin and choked that shit away it was pretty bad]
3/6/2009 7:25:33 AM
We got jobbed out of the Wisconson game. Thats one of a handful of games I actually remember years later that we got fucked out of. Not one call in particular, but the entire second half. Very similar to the VT game this year. We couldn't touch anyone without being called for a foul, and Wisconson could rape, stab, and massage our anuses without being called for a foul. We were rolling through the first 25 minutes of that game until the refs basically made it so we couldn't play defense...then all of a sudden wisconson starts hitting 3's. Coincidence? I think not. Just for fun.....that list for me includes: Vandy in 04, Wisconsin in 05, GT in 07 after the UNC win, Duke in 08 at home, VT in 09, and one or 2 others I'm forgetting. I'm excluding a few games against UNC and duke because I guess thats to be expected against them. These are the games that the refs had an impact on the outcome either late in the game, or made it so that we couldn't play defense down the stretch and the other team could hack away. It happens all the time but the GT, Wisconson, and VT games I listed were the worst I've ever seen.Oh yeah BC in 06 at home....the phantom out of bounds call on Tony Bethel, where his foot was over 2 feet inbounds, yet Ted Valentine called him out from THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COURT. I was sitting front row right where it happened. Amazing. BC hits a 3 on the inbounds to take a 1 or 2 point lead with about a minute to go and we don't look back. ^ was just gonna say, i was driving over the Canadian border listening to that Vandy game and i think that's probably when i totally lost any kind of hope in Sendek. That one year, i think it was when we were "supposed" to be pretty good and UNX was rebuilding, i think that was '06 and we lost to them at home. Frasor tore our ass up that game. That was inexcuseable but more par for the course with Herb "the UNC game is like every other game" sendek
3/6/2009 3:14:23 PM
the second half of the 06 season was absolutely unbearable. the shit that happened because of sendek against unc in both games that year, while they had just lost their entire team to the NBA draft, was absolutely stupid. Wake Forest was arguably worse (both times), and what he did against Texas is some of the worst coaching I've EVER seen.

the iowa game and the st. john's game were the reasons i had to put up new drywall
3/6/2009 4:38:56 PM
the iowa game was somewhat forgivable since they were pretty good, it was pretty close, and we started that season like 12-1
3/6/2009 4:45:08 PM
The loss itself might have been forgivable, but having to watch that game live on television was a punishment I would wish on no man.
3/6/2009 4:47:17 PM
I, too, couldn't bare to watch how terrible that game was. I had nightmares about it afterward it was so bad. Watching that game wasn't as bad as some of the other shit that happened that season though. I'd compare it to the Holocaust, but the holocaust might be more enjoyable that Herb's Death Camps.
3/6/2009 4:48:51 PM
^^ that's what i would say. jesus, it was bad.
3/6/2009 4:52:59 PM
Worst game ever was the St. Johns game in december of 04 I think. That shit was on like fox sports bumfuckegypt and I had it on digital cable so I got to watch. I got really excited that I'd get to see us play and I sat in the basement of my parents house with some friends and watched....THAT was the worst game ever. Hodge may as well have not shown up. I think there were two inbounds plays that game that they threw off our backs and layed them in for a score. That play is something I don't miss. We basically got run by an bunch of And1 failures playing for a team who lost all their scholarship players from the year before. The Iowa game was bad, but at least we were in the game, and against a good team who was ranked most of that year. Both teams played slow as fuck more than state just playing awful.
