Jailbroke mine yesterday. I'm liking having Slacker on while I surf. I also really like intelliscreen and being able to hide the Compass and Voicerecorder icons
7/10/2009 6:04:23 PM
try sbsettings and five icon dock if you haven't
7/10/2009 6:05:22 PM
both of those are nice. unfortunately it appears the "rotation prevention" app doesn't work on 3gs yet

get normal ringtones by converting them to m4a then renaming them to m4r and adding to itunesor get them from http://audiko.net/
7/11/2009 12:32:33 PM
I'm fairly certain that's not what she meant by "normal ringtones".

there are a lot of normal ringtones on audiko, just searchplus you can convert any mp3 ringtone or trim it there and download an m4r without having to deal with the convert/change extension deal[Edited on July 12, 2009 at 12:54 AM. Reason : .]

lol, lucky.i asked if they could disable it for me and i got laughed at... and i'm even friends with the dude who manages that department, haha.

Why does everyone nut themselves over the 5 icon dock? I just don't get it.
7/12/2009 5:06:29 AM
Worms! Out now.
7/12/2009 3:19:35 PM
i love that game!!
7/12/2009 3:31:11 PM
awesome! buy it and report back.
7/12/2009 4:50:53 PM
I got it. It's not bad. The controls are a little bit less than perfect(especially the ninja roping). But it's still obviously a worms game. Easily worth $5 if you're a fan of the series.
7/12/2009 5:31:05 PM
whats the best gps app for iphone?
7/13/2009 10:52:03 AM
TomTom app when it comes out. When is that anyway?
7/13/2009 10:59:11 AM
anyone playing Racing Live?oddly addicting.
7/13/2009 11:10:01 AM
^I'm playing Real Racing, its freaking awesome.
7/13/2009 1:53:40 PM
7/13/2009 2:29:15 PM
^don't forget the AT&T TBT app thats free + monthly fee.
7/13/2009 2:56:18 PM
Well there's 2-3 apps that are subscription based, but I wouldn't really throw them into the running. Mainly because I think it's retarded to pay a monthly fee for stuff like that, so I'd never do it.

Anybody else ever accumulated 6+ months of texts and then deleted them all and noticed a huge speed increase? It's like night and day difference for whatever reason. And it fixed the (-1) messages problem as well.
7/13/2009 5:56:30 PM
Anyone played Worms yet? I'm really tempted to get it but I wanted to at least see some reviews first.
7/13/2009 7:27:57 PM
^read a few posts up.
7/13/2009 9:23:32 PM
played it last night. it's pretty good. getting used to walking was a little weird and just getting the hang of the controls in general was different, but it's definitely still a worms game. i feel like i can't zoom in enough sometimes though.

is there a quick way to purge all texts rather than one by one with convos?
7/14/2009 2:05:21 PM
is it really that slow to delete an entire conversation at once? i'm assuming you know that when looking at the summary of all the different peoples texts you can slide your finger to the right on a particular conversation and erase the entire stack. takes maybe 10 seconds to erase 5 entire conversations
7/14/2009 2:48:01 PM
yeah, but my conversations go back to last october...lots of convos. Just asking.
7/14/2009 4:18:24 PM
With my WinMo phone I had a program that would show a "virtual" phone on my computer when connected via USB, does the iphone do anything like that. It would be great for answer texts while the phone is docked.
7/14/2009 10:28:47 PM
is there a way to get an mp3 onto my iphone for use as a ringtone without itunes?
7/15/2009 8:01:07 PM
^^i've never seen anything like that. would be cool as hell though.
7/15/2009 8:47:00 PM
For those of you considering an upgrade from the 3G - Here's a few things I've noticed on the 3GS that may not be obvious from online reviews.1. Safari doesn't crash. Ever. The 3G was frustrating to me in the fact that some pages would crash every once in a while. I'm guessing this can be attributed to the additional RAM?2. For the first time in over 3 weeks use, I had to reboot the phone. I'm not even sure that it needed a reboot as the cause was probably network related. It made me think about how I used to have to reboot the 3G once every few days to deal with funky issues, especially with OS 3.0. 3. Don't expect dramatic increases in battery life. Battery life isn't any better imo.
7/15/2009 9:47:41 PM
Battery life is slightly better, and everything is so fast. Browsing is significantly improved, and yeah no crashes. I just figured out you could put web pages on your home pages as Icons. I know that's old, but i thought that was cool. Now i have an entire home page of websites with little screen shot icons. Faster than clicking safari, then finding what you want within bookmarks.[Edited on July 15, 2009 at 10:15 PM. Reason : ,]
7/15/2009 10:13:27 PM
For me, battery life is drastically worse. But I was coming from a 1st gen, so I dunno how much of that was the 3GS and how much of that was just the 3G.]
7/15/2009 10:18:49 PM
3g kills battery. People need to realize that although the battery life sucks it's still better than the majority of 3g smart phones out there.
7/15/2009 10:27:21 PM
^^it was the 3g. i can run mine dead in like 4 hours, lol
7/15/2009 10:28:49 PM
the battery life makes me want to jump on an apple care plan. if the battery gets any worse over the next two years its going to make the thing nearly unuseable.
7/15/2009 10:43:13 PM
Yeah, I figured as much, although I switched 3G off for a day and really didn't see too much of a difference in battery life. I dunno. I ordered a couple of battery packs for when I can't be around a plug, and I don't really think it's THAT bad, so I'm not complaining too much.I'm headed down to Wilmington tomorrow, does it really not have 3G coverage? I checked on the AT&T site and it doesn't look like it. I've been in Kinston for the past couple of days and it is edge only and I swear to God, I don't know how I managed with a 1st gen iPhone for a full 16 months. I guess I just didn't realize how much faster 3G was. It's like going back to dialup.
7/15/2009 10:43:29 PM
i spent a weekend in wilmington recently & got no 3g anywhere. if it was like that everywhere, i would have considered taking it back
7/15/2009 11:19:35 PM
I am curious if I have a bum battery. I have had a 1st gen and a 3g and while the battery wasn't great, it wasn't the worst thing in the world. I could easily get through the day with no probs. With the 3gs I am seeing dramatically lower battery life. I have had the battery die after maybe 30 mins of talk and MAYBE an hour of surfing. (no music or video) Now that usage is over about 4 or 5 hours and I do have 3g/wifi/bt on. But still, that seems really low. Wondering if I should talk to apple?

the docking and charging of mine is quite quirky now. I can plug it in but i have to hold the plug one certain way for it to charge and then i'll have to gently remove my hand but most times it'll stop charging. Is that something I can get fixed or replaced under the year of apple care??
7/16/2009 12:46:46 AM
i used audiko.net to create the m4r and then installed itunes in my virtual xp machine in windows 7. Took me a while to figure out how to turn on manual management so i could delete stuff off the iphone and not have it sync every single damned thing.itunes is really the worst goddamned program ever. The UI is trash it puts a ton of worthless crap on your computer, and you can only sync with 1 computer. Are there really people in the world who would never want to transfer songs/videos/whatever from computer -> iphone -> other computer? Or is that just apple being super user friendly?
7/16/2009 12:50:10 AM
^I think their reason for doing that is because of "copy protection." They don't want people uploading their songs onto someone elses computer.
7/16/2009 7:05:33 AM
for songs that dont contain drm its just them being huge tools. For songs that do contain drm i though the drm is specific to the user? If you connect iphone to comp1 sync library, then go to comp2 you would sync library and then if you want to play the drm songs on comp2 you would have to login to itunes store in order to get your certs to play the drm stuff. If comp2 is a friends computer, you're going to log out once you're done. Your friend will log into his itunes account which wont have access to your drm'ed songs. If this is how they did it it would work as I expect while maintaining the DRM.

Does anyone know of any tethering apps that let multiple computers connect wirelessly to the iPhone? I recently jailbroke my phone and have been using PDANet, but it's single computer only.
7/16/2009 1:01:33 PM
not sure if this is in here or not - but my new office is creating problems with the iPhone. seriously sketchy service in here. i'll get voicemails three hours later and what not, which is a little bit of a problem when trying to work.i've found cell phone reception boosters online - but has anybody had any luck with them with the iPhone?
