^^In the short run jobs are created by increasing economic efficiency and therefore economic activity. It seems ridiculous to suggest bailing out inefficient firms will increase economic efficiency. To put it another way, the position is that the bailouts cost jobs elsewhere in the economy, offsetting those immediately saved in the bailed out companies. So the question is why do you think the Great Recession is still on-going with 9% unemployment? We argue it is due to suppression of private investment by regime uncertainty as government deficits and government takeovers have ravaged the financial sector and crony capitalism now dominates as cronies get waivers such as from Obamacare and their rivals face stiff regulatory burdens. If you think Bush or Obama is the one giving orders, you're probably wrong. The same entity that owns the government is doing these deeds.

The Senate has approved the indefinite military detention of domestic American citizens without trial. Soon the veto of this single man will be the only thing preventing this from becoming reality(and a supreme court decision that is implemented with "all deliberate speed" if at all). This same single man that has already personally ordered the assassination of two American citizens without trial this year, suggesting his veto threat is more a response to perceived popularity than any true moral misgivings. And you people doubt me when I suggest the end is near.[Edited on November 30, 2011 at 2:44 PM. He also supports the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) which would give the government the ability to shut down "rogue" websites. Yeaaaahttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/16/sopa-internet-censorship-online-piracy-house-hearing_n_1098255.html

I think his position on that could be swayed with sufficient public outcry in an election year. However, it would be vastly preferable to have public officials that support civil liberties without constantly being reminded to do so. Perhaps I'm naive.

of course he supports the government being an internet watchdog; nearly every politician does... more fed power, more control of online content, etc.

I just read the white house statement on his veto threat. It seems he opposes the bill not on civil rights terms, but because it takes power away from federal authorities, who are already detaining and assassinating American citizens without trial. In any case (the senate at least) has more than enough votes to override a veto. The country is too far gone. Even replacing every lawmaker currently up for election would not have prevented this political scenario. I don't know what to do.

not that this excuses anything, but I seem to recall a former president who thought the most pressing issue of our time was the amassing of large amounts of brush on his ranch...

W had a full office setup at the Ranch. It is widely known that he telecommuted, not on a luxury vacation.

^haha. That's a terrible article. He first alludes to Teddy Roosevelt, and then seamlessly uses that as a transition to compare Obama to Franklin Roosevelt, hoping to catch the reader off guard without realizing that they are two different people. And if that's not enough, he then compares him to Carter and gives the standard conservative cry of "Keynesian economics" and "Marxism." And he did all of that within one paragraph. It's as if the author thinks that Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Carter, and Marx all had the exact same ethos.I'm sure that appeases the flunkies who read his articles, though. The truth is, Obama is not a Progressive. He's just not. Which is why its so fucking infuriating when his detractors yell "Marxist! Socialist!" at a president who's practically to the right of Ronald goddamn Reagan.haha. just read the rest of the article. Puts all of the blame on Obama for federal spending without putting it into proper context and then makes an appeal to trickle-down supply side economics and bush tax cuts. Yeaaahh, real honest analysis, that stuff is.oh, and here's the authors bio:

When folks use canned phrases like "Wake Up" or wear Guy Fawkes masks I lose a lot of hope for the future, it seems that increasingly the only way people know how to try to rebel is by using idioms and iconography the system itself present us with through media.
12/15/2011 10:46:56 AM
As an example, consider the irony involved when people use the phrase "Think outside the box" to try and coax originality and novelty out

Or, you know, the truth. The United States isn't, and hasn't been for a very long time, the global standard for freedom and civil liberties. Again, we've been detaining American citizens for tens, if not hundreds of years. Remember internment camps for Japanese people during World War II? They didn't even have the luxury of being accused of terrorist activities first. Their only crime was looking like a Japanese person.Talk to someone who hasn't lived here for most of their lives, and you'll find that we are the laughing stock of the developed (and most of the non-developed) world on basically every social issue. Look at our healthcare system for god sakes. When I tell my Canadian relatives that I have to spend $1500 out of my own pocket before my coverage kicks in, they look at me like a crazy person. Yesterday, I paid $75 for a band-aid, some neosporin, and a piece of paper referring me to specialist for a lesion on my knee. And I'm sure I'll get another bill in the mail for that "service". I don't "support" Obama because I thought he would reverse decades of conservative fuckery on day one. I voted for him because I wanted to stem the tide, and at least start things moving in the other direction. Despite being having to prioritize the failing economy (which by the way, has added jobs literally every single month he's been President, after losing 7-8 million at the tail end of the previous administration) Dubya dropped at his feet, he's done that on many issues including health care, education, and foreign policy. And he's done it with half the legislative branch opposing every single policy he's proposed, not on merit, but simply because he's the one proposing them. Given the extraordinary circumstances surrounding his Presidency, including having to hold a fucking press conference on his eligibility to be President 2 years AFTER being elected, he's definitely met my expectations.
