Yeah me too. It hurts so bad knowing that we CAN win (especially at home) and we can't make it happen.

here's an old article for posterity and to fuel the fire of people yelling at each other

http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/college-basketball-coaches-hot-seat-150862

Quote :
"THE INFERNO LIST

Sidney Lowe, North Carolina State: It doesn’t matter that Lowe is a legacy off of Jimmy V’s lone title team, he will be gone if this team doesn’t do well in the ACC and make the NCAA Tournament. After starting out creating some reasonable expectations after his first season, Lowe looked completely in over his head last season as the Wolfpack completely imploded both physically and emotionally on the court. NC State has some talent, but because of its Tobacco Road locale, Lowe doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt when his team appears to about to be overtaken by Wake Forest as the #3 team in North Carolina. State fans, alumni and administrators won’t stand for that.

"Sidney Lowe, NC State

Coach Lowe seems like he shouldn’t be worried about his job security in Raleigh for a long time. He was the point guard on the Wolfpack’s 1983 NCAA championship team under Jim Valvano. He wears a red blazer on game days in honor of his late great coach. And after leading his team to a stunning run to the ACC Championship game in just his first year as head coach, he was given an extension that keeps him under contract all the way through the 2012-13 season.

However, this is also the same school that all but pushed Coach Herb Sendek out the door to Arizona State three years ago, after only winning 191 games and leading them to the NCAA Tournament in each of his last five years.

So suffice it to say, NC State’s current 11-8 record, and tenth place standing in the ACC in Lowe’s third season is enough to put his job in jeopardy, even if he did lose JJ Hickson to the NBA.

In his first season, although he did manage that improbable run through the ACC Tournament, Lowe still only earned five wins in the conference during the regular season. He second year saw the Wolfpack post a 4-12 ACC record, losing their last nine games and ending up in last place in the conference, despite being nationally ranked in the preseason.

It’s also not making it easier for Lowe that the other three North Carolina ACC schools are all currently competing for a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

It would be premature to let Coach Lowe go after only three seasons, especially considering that Herb Sendek posted an identical ACC record in his first two years on the bench. It wouldn’t be a surprise, however, if they did.

Read the interview with Scott Wood's coach on wolfpackhoops.blogspot.com. The part about Wood & Mays being eager to learn from Lowe and Towe reminded me how much better I'd expect our PG situation to be once we get some more talents players on the roster.

Quote :
"WolfpackHoops: Coach Luce, tell us a little bit about Scott Wood.

Coach Luce: First of all we have had an unbelievable tradition here at Marion. Zach Randolph who is now on the Portland Trailblazers and Jay Edwards who was an All-American at the University of Indiana both came through the program. Scott Wood when its all said and done will be one of the greats to ever play here. He is a fan favorite and a role model to all of the youth in Marion. He’s an unbelievable student. To be honest, sometimes you are wondering if the kid has any faults in his character. Scott's game is truly defined by his character.

Scott is a fabulous shooter. When he was 10 years old he was the National runner-up in the Elks Hoops Shoot competition. In the competition each contestant had to shoot 25 free throws and I think Scott hit 24 and came in second.

...Earlier this year we had to dismiss our starting point guard from the team and Scott slid right in and has run the point for us most of the year. As a result he has changed his game from being just a shooter to an all-around player. Scott is the type of player that will do whatever needs to be done in order for his team to win the game...

WolfpackHoops: What do you think it was about NC State that Scott was drawn to?

Coach Luce: The only reason Scott ends up at NC State is because of the phenomenal job Coach Towe did. He got Coach Lowe involved very quickly and they developed a solid relationship with him before anyone else in the country. Scott had a very average to poor AAU season before his Junior season. This led other schools like Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh to remain lukewarm and unwilling to offer a scholarship. Coach Towe and Coach Lowe saw something in Scott from the very beginning and told me that they could see this young man getting paid good money to play this game one day. I've seen a lot of players go through the recruiting process and I have to say that Coach Lowe and his staff are the most honest and genuine that I have ever dealt with.
Scott committed to NC State because he wanted to go to a school that he believed could win championships in the future.
He believes in Coach Lowe's vision and he is also excited about the talent that is coming into the program.

WolfpackHoops: What does Scott need to do in the off-season to get ready for next year?

Coach Luce: ... In my humble opinion he needs to put on weight and he needs to put on strength. Another thing, his father stands 6’8 and his mom is 5’11. His dad also grew six inches his freshmen year in college. I know this is speculation, but we could have a kid on our hands that is 6’9 at one point. With all this being said I believe that he could play in a college game right now even at his current weight and size.

WolfpackHoops: How do you foresee Scott playing at the next level?

Coach Luce: Plain and simple, Scott is a scorer and he has an unbelievable touch. He has averaged 26ppg this season with no playmakers on the team. Next year he will have someone create shots for him. He will become more of a 3-point threat again in college. Four years from now he will be one of the biggest sleepers NC State has recruited in a while.

WolfpackHoops: We like what we have seen out of Julius Mays so far in his freshman campaign. Tell us a little bit about Julius.

Coach Luce: Look, you haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg with Julius Mays. I talk to him all the time and he is loving his time down there. He is being patient and knows that his time will come. He loves learning under two of the best college point guards to ever play the game in Coach Lowe and Coach Towe. You need to understand something else about Julius and Scott. These kids are winners. Their winning percentage at Marion was pretty amazing. It is all these kids know. "

i love when people like Rookie use OTHER coaches records to prove that THIS coach will be the same like A) this coach will be the same as the other coaches for some reason, and B)there arent equally as many 4 year records that show the exact opposite result.

attn users w/ less than 5 posts?

anyway, back to this thread.

i am pretty sure if i were to dig back to some of the earlier pages, you can find me saying that if lowe finished int he bottom 3 in the acc, then i wouldnt be upset if he was fired. i wouldnt necessarily root for it, but i would understand.

well, we are one loss away from our 3rd straight year in the bottom 3. Granted, there isnt much diff b/w 8th and 9th, but i think if he can make the jump to 8th, i would root against him losing his job.

no good reason for my logic but there ya go

but back to the topic

bottom 3 is bottom 3. 6 wins isnt all that respectable if you are still in the bottom 4th of the conf, especially when only 2 of those 6 wins were against teams in the top 8, with 3 against the bottom 2

and fuck that tank it bullshit. tanking games is for the NFL and NBA.

This thread should not be locked. It's a discussion of the team and coaching.

I think the main thing that upsets people like me is that we started playing well so late in the season and we have proved that we are a capable team.

I am upset because this is how we should have been playing all along.

I'll add that we have actually been improving steadily throughout the season, even when we were still losing games

Anyone who wasn't too busy coming up with innovative ways to whine and anyone who knew anything about basketball saw this. The rise is almost soley attributible to the development of the underclassmen, which is why any non-idiot can see that the performance now should be better than earlier in the year. Underclassmen simply have greater protential to drastically change their game

you know why we are better? b/c lowe finally decided it would be a good idea to put our 5 best players in the starting lineup

i guess that is coahing progress, showing that lowe is learning, but it would have been nice if smith had been a starter the whole year instead of the pu-pu platter of horner and ferguson
