Well, we already DO know the long term effects of "long COVID" (hint: they're NOT good!), and based on what we know about vaccine side effects, the vaccine poses far less threat to people's immediate health.

We do not have a crystal ball, and perhaps down the road our understanding of the vaccine and its long term effects will change, but you can't just equivocate what we do/don't/may not ever know and act as if they're equally valid concerns.

Sigh. Critical thinking really has been lost in this debate. Sad.

But there are many COVID patients in the hospital with fairly mild symptoms, too, who have been admitted for further observation on account of their comorbidities, or because they reported feeling short of breath. Another portion of the patients in this tally are in the hospital for something unrelated to COVID, and discovered that they were infected only because they were tested upon admission.

There are articles from April of this year claiming it would be eradicated, and some by Fauci. Yeah science updates but that works both ways. Now the science says the vax isn't effective.

I bought the argument to take the vax if you have to be in an office or around people in large quantities indoors. Largely because of what all of you were arguing in April about saving grandma. That argument is now totally moot.

Every single person I worked with at my last job was vaccinated and every single one of them contracted covid over the summer. None of them were hospitalized but they are mostly under mid 40s. Maybe it helped? Maybe not.

Maybe the hospitals are overwhelmed, but the data on that looks shoddy as their revenues are way down. They had over a year to prepare, better treatment, and a miracle vax. An industry with 20% of GDP allocated to it can't handle 1 in 1300 patients. Fine. Burn it the fuck down. Rebuild something else that doesn't charge $9 per tablet for Tums.

They don't even distinguish Delta vs not when someone has a breakthrough. There no data to my knowledge that you can point to. Israel had lots of Delta going around and lots of breakthroughs. I don't believe they actually tested each breakthrough specifically. I know we don't do that here.

Ppl are bad at weighing risks in general... chances of dying from covid are higher than your chances of getting robbed while youre at home, yet people still fear the latter far more than the former. Police are far more likely to get killed from covid than an attacker, yet they will fight to the death to keep guns on them and to have qualified immunity, while staunchly resisting getting vaccinated.

I thing we were doomed on this issue from the beginning by not having great marketing people in charge of messaging. Sticking a non-politician like Fauci in front of cameras from day 1 was not a good idea.
