This is what Rush Limbaugh and Trump get us when they kept telling the world that this was no big deal. I fully expect to see our law enforcement resources wasted like this all over the country:

Quote :
"President Trump made his first public comments about the coronavirus on Jan. 22, in a television interview from Davos with CNBC’s Joe Kernen. The first American case had been announced the day before, and Kernen asked Trump, “Are there worries about a pandemic at this point?”

The president responded: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”"

Quote :
"Trump, however, repeatedly told Americans that there was no reason to worry. On Jan. 24, he tweeted, “It will all work out well.” On Jan. 28, he retweeted a headline from One America News, an outlet with a history of spreading false conspiracy theories: “Johnson & Johnson to create coronavirus vaccine.” On Jan. 30, during a speech in Michigan, he said: “We have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment — five. And those people are all recuperating successfully.”"

Quote :
"Jan 31 - “Coronavirus,” Hannity said. “How concerned are you?”

Trump replied: “Well, we pretty much shut it down coming in from China. We have a tremendous relationship with China, which is a very positive thing. Getting along with China, getting along with Russia, getting along with these countries.”"

Quote :
"On Feb. 10, he repeatedly said — in a speech to governors, at a campaign rally and in an interview with Trish Regan of Fox Business — that warm spring weather could kill the virus. “Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away,” he told the rally."

Quote :
"On Feb. 19, he told a Phoenix television station, “I think the numbers are going to get progressively better as we go along.” Four days later, he pronounced the situation “very much under control,” and added: “We had 12, at one point. And now they’ve gotten very much better. Many of them are fully recovered.”"

Quote :
"Throughout late February, Trump also continued to claim the situation was improving. On Feb. 26, he said: “We’re going down, not up. We’re going very substantially down, not up.” On Feb. 27, he predicted: “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.” On Feb. 29, he said a vaccine would be available “very quickly” and “very rapidly” and praised his administration’s actions as “the most aggressive taken by any country.”"

Quote :
"he suggested on multiple occasions that the virus was less serious than the flu. “We’re talking about a much smaller range” of deaths than from the flu, he said on March 2. “It’s very mild,” he told Hannity on March 4. On March 7, he said, “I’m not concerned at all.” On March 10, he promised: “It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.”"

Quote :
"Trump, while touring the C.D.C. on March 6, said, “Anybody that wants a test can get a test.”"

Quote :
"I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it. Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president."

they have stopped receiving anything except critical items and healthcare related items at their warehouses

i doubt anyone will freak out because they aren't changing deliveries to consumers, just what they are receiving to their warehouse

people who sell stuff through Amazon will be pissed as it will hurt their business a ton. people who shop on Amazon will probably appreciate being able to buy things like toilet paper, soap and hand sanitizer, which they define as "household staples"

trump supporters are just absolutely insane

Inside the Pro-Trump Facebook Group Where First Responders Call Coronavirus a Hoax
In a private Facebook group, firefighters and paramedics shared memes and conspiracy theories doubting the pandemic, raising concerns that they aren’t taking precautions to protect themselves and others.

^where are you seeing that, everything i'm finding is about shipments from vendors, for example:

had an employee today ask if a company was "libel" if they got sick because of another employee/customer that was there onsite.

probably foreign territory for most HR folks so just told him to email me and let them deal with it but just curious what folks think here. I think like anything if you get sick you get sick.

WH changed their tone because of that report from the Imperial College posted above.

And this has a timeline of all the things Trump has said about the epidemic from January till now:

Quote :
" Just about 56% of Americans consider the coronavirus a "real threat," representing a drop of 10 percentage points from last month. At the same time, a growing number of Americans think the coronavirus is being "blown out of proportion."
"

I don’t understand why it has dropped 10% in the last month...what has happened in the last month for people to believe it’s now less of a threat than it was a month ago? Or just general distrust of media from republicans I guess...

Quote :
" Pollsters found that both shifts are largely driven by changes in opinion by Republicans. For instance, 72% of Republicans saw the coronavirus as a real threat in early February, but that figure has now plummeted to 40% of Republicans now believing the deadly virus is a serious menace."

I don’t get it. More republicans in less densely population areas vs more Dems in more densely populated areas being a contributing factor? Or is this just a response to republicans believing trump has everything under control?

I have no clue. I went to Lowe's Foods yesterday because we ran out of bread, since we refused to panic-buy. Lowe's had plenty of bread (no TP) and it also had plenty of idiots gathering around their little beer bar, shoulder-to-shoulder.

Side note - why people feel the need to congregate at a bar inside a grocery store, even when there is no pandemic around, is beyond me.

My proposal about 10 days ago to shut everything down for a full month doesn't look quite so far-fetched now. Except we're still doing it a little bit at a time, and it's still mostly optional, so the timeline over which effects will be felt keeps expanding. The proposal was a bit of a joke because I knew it would not be done in the US, but it probably should have been done.
