Friends in Smithfield are without power. I’m a little west of them and we’ve still got power.

I've been having power flickers since 10pm last night. Consistently at least once an hour since 2am. And 6 times within the last two hours. This is fucking ridiculous given the conditions. But anyone that lives in S Raleigh knows the power grid around here fucking sucks

We have some outer bands that will come through in the next hour or so, but worst parts should be noon to 7pm

It's not that the grid sucks, it's that people complain when the power company cuts their precious trees back. A big storm will make folks more receptive to tree trimming, so they'll take advantage of it after this storm and get a lot of trimming done. Duke would much rather trim trees than repair lines.

I was extremely happy when the power company cut some of my trees back a few years ago. Probably saved me several hundred bucks of not having to hire a professional. The power was already very susceptible to being knocked out before they did that.

Power blinked a few times out here in NE Raleigh. We've only had some light rain and wind gusts so far.

You've traced your circuit all the way back to the substation?

Our lines are underground in the neighborhood, but the road out of 'hood has access lines above ground, and they always get hit with trees.

Surprisingly I still have power. I'm about 5 minutes north of the southern Wake Co. line.

And if there are overhead lines upstream to substation out of the subdivision there may be people that throws a fit about their trees and effectively screws everyone that's downstream.

Yeah I don't know from which direction our power arrives (from outside neighborhood). My last comment was more of a reply saying "nobody in my neighborhood is being a dick about tree cutting".

Dude on the weather channel was in full "brace for impact" stance just now talking about the extreme winds while a pair of teenagers were just casually walking behind him in shorts and t-shirts playing on their phones.

^^ my mom texted it to me, so she must've seen it on WNCT or WITN.

WCTI, the New Bern-based station, got evacuated yesterday so I think they're broadcasting the Wilmington or Myrtle Beach ABC station signal.

Morehead at an accumulation of 23.04" of rainfall, per the Weather Channel.

With the partial collapse of the Neuse River Bridge, when this is all over, I'm kind of wondered about road access. If you live near the coast, you know that there's only really a few roads. My dad and I was talking, he's doing fine, but was thinking of going down Monday with his chainsaw to go help friends, but was thinking about all the roads heading to New Bern from its northwest, there's a lot of bridges, and it was "well, they should all be flooded".

If say the Trent River Bridge and Neuse River Bridge for some reason became impassable, that's all the cities downeast of New Bern pretty much fucked driving from the west to them unless you went all the way down to Jacksonville and came back north. (Havelock, Newport, Morehead City, Beaufort, Atlantic Beach, rural Carteret County - some of which floods terribly in storms that are a fraction of this.)

He said Little Washington is just as gone as New Bern is. And WCTI (ABC-New Bern) has been off the air all day with no signal.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm piecing together, based on what I can gather on Facebook, and looking at terrain elevation and projected flood maps.

Merchant's is just under a mile from my house there. (Brices Creek is about 2/3 mile at the closest point). I've seen pictures of water up to the bottom of mailboxes near Merchant's.

^^ Buddy of mine on Facebook took a video midday Thursday by Merchant's showing the water. He said he lives somewhere around there, worst flooding he's ever seen, and he went to the Holiday Inn on MLK. People yesterday were just coming in to the hotel saying horror stories.

I'm thinking about all the new in the past 20 years very nice home subdivisions they built and hawked to northern transplants where they pretty much built on top of old swampland (cough*Taberna*cough). There's the one the other side of the New Bern airport as you head toward Pollocksville, can't remember its name. It's probably underwater.

We are still ok. Lost internet service yesterday. Carteret County got fucked up. Looks like a bomb went off here. My parents house, where we are staying is ok. One of my friends had to evacuate their house their roof collapsed in. Havent gotten to see our house yet. We are going to try to get there today, but I've been getting reports that there is flooding in that area. So I'm getting very nervous.

This was a bad one. When the eye was sitting right off shore about 3 am yesterday carteret county just sat in the eye wall. There are trees down everywhere. The only people who didnt lose trees are people who had no trees to begin with. Although some people may find that they have new trees.
