^^as a fan, I think the product on the field has gotten worse in the last few years. I still watch. But I don’t enjoy it as much. Maybe I’m wrong and it’s nothing that can be substantiated but that’s how it feels to me.

You're trying to bring MVP level quarterbacks into a Kaepernick discussion? LOL.

Kaepernick doesn't come close to Newton as a runner if that's the point you were trying to make, as his inability to throw a deep ball allowed defenses to stack the box on him consistently.

Your article cherry picks his rushing stats during 2016 and ignores how bad he was as a rusher in the preceding 3 years. His horrendous passing in 2016 more than negated any benefit from having him on the field as a rushing threat, as it stifled their running backs.

I'm just pointing out that pass-only numbers are a disingenuous way to compare stats for mobile QBs like Kaepernick, Cam, etc, and the rest of the league which are generally more pocket passers.

San Fran was so good because of their defense, offensive line and running game. But Kaep is damn sure better than somebody like Nate Peterman. He is definitely good enough to be on a roster, but the owners have decided that there are more conservative white season ticket holders than not, so they made a business decision.

yeah this point should be pretty obvious. nobody thinks Kaepernick is a sure-fire NFL star. but when you look around the league at guys that get chances when a starter goes down or before a rookie is ready to start...it's painfully obvious the Kaepernick is better than many guys that are on rosters. Peterman is the obvious example.

Also, look at the WRs on those teams the years he was "bad". One year he had a 35 year old Anquan Boldin as his best wr, then he got Jeremy kerley and Quinton Patton whoever that is (actually his better of the bad years)

I mean I don't think Kaep is necessarily good enough to say he SHOULD be a starting quarterback.

But he's certainly better than anyone the Bills have, so in that sense he definitely COULD be a starting quarterback.

eleusis doesn’t think that Aaron Rodgers is a good quarterback and that Case Keenum should be out of the league

quarterbacks below Kaepernick on his cherrypicked list:

Case Keenum
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Jared Goff

with Cam one spot ahead of Kaep and Wentz two spots ahead

Keenum and Goff were hot garbage under Fisher, and Wentz got off to a slow start as well. Don't let your 2018 perception affect how they actually performed those years.

Cam was regressing before his MVP year. Kelvin Benjamin being on the field made him make poor choices.

No Garrett Gilbert is the 3rd quarterback.

Are you even a sports fan? What professional football team signs a player in the next to last game of the year? Beat your drum, but all I ask is that you interject reality into the equation. If Hurney signs a useless player for no reason to eat valuable cap space for next season he deserves to get fired.

If you think this is a legit move by any GM in the NFL to sign a quarterback that hasn't played in multiple seasons FOR ONE WEEK then I really can't take anything you say about sports seriously moving forward. That's beyond ignorant and not how anything in the NFL works.

If you sign this guy in week 8 and then essentially redshirt him and have him ready for the next fall that makes sense, but no quarterback is learning the offense in 3 practices and no head coach would ever even consider putting that quarterback under center when you're actual 2nd string is ready to play.

C'mon man, be better.

Before all your racist dog whistle posts, this is about signing ANY quarterback in week 16 thinking they would play one pointless game in week 17 while eating cap space and forcing you to cut another player to do it. I'd say the same thing about Derek Anderson, Peterman, or any of the other myriad of trash quarterbacks sitting on their couch.

Raiders JUST did it. Teams do that all the time. Also It won't impact your cap at all if you just sign them for that season.

Kaepernick is almost definitely better than their whoever the fuck garret Gilbert is

Yea that was only a small part of his point and Raiders signed a qb that has proven he can't play in the NFL, which I would say is much worse?

Seems pretty easy for teams to at least work out Kaep, if he isn't in playing shape then say that?

[Edited on December 20, 2018 at 11:29 PM. Reason : And the "multiple seasons" was also a moved goal post from his first point ]

[Edited on December 20, 2018 at 11:30 PM. Reason : Heinicke has 5 pass attempts in 3 years ]

Kaep played less than 2 years ago btw

josh mother fuckin johnson got signed a couple weeks ago. and he hadn't thrown a pass in an NFL since 2011.

plus...you have to have a back up. when Alex Smith got hurt and Colt McCoy became the starter, they brought Mark Sanchez off the street to be a back up. And then when McCoy got hurt they brought in Josh Johnson. I don't really think many people believe Kaep should get signed on Monday and start on Sunday. But when dudes like Josh Johnson and Mark Sanchez are getting signed off the street to be back ups, a very legit case can be made for Kaepernick. And yes, when Nathan god dang Peterman can keep getting workouts and jobs in the NFL...yeah, Kaepernick ought to be getting some calls.

He'd have to come in at the vet minimum of $480k at the very lowest, correct? Even so, this article seems to believe that even for him to throw in camp it's $1m and for limited backup duties around $2m.

wait wait wait. i'm not saying the panthers should sign kaepernick. the panthers situation is a little different at this point. totally apples and oranges compared to WAS

my only argument is that if mother fucking josh johnson and mark sanchez can come off the street and get a job, then teams ought to be calling kaepernick as well. the argument that "but he's not in playing shape", "but he hasn't played in X years", "but he isn't good enough"...those arguments go out the window when josh johnson gets signed.

I just think you have to look at what teams signed those players. The Redskins and the Raiders. The Raiders, who are arguably the worst team in the NFL this year, who traded away their 2 best players in the past few months. And the Redskins, whose own fans will tell you has one of the worst owners in the league. So it's not exactly like the Patriots or Steelers would make similar moves if their starting QBs got hurt.

Also, it's obvious that the league has a hush hush agreement that nobody signs Kaep based on politics and other stuff. Not denying that. But somebody like Taylor Heinicke has been learning the playbook and practicing for months. Regardless of his physical talents in relation to Kaep, he is light years ahead of any new QB when it comes to knowing the Panthers system.

I don't think it's worth shaking things up since they are out of the playoffs BUT I would argue that Kaep would offer a higher ceiling/chance to win the game

Besides don't let him move the goal posts from this
