sweet... i dont think it was an accident too that they talked about "go to class" for the last 15 seconds of it

^^ Was just about to post that. Beejay has definitely trimmed down and that lil' hook shot he did was awkwardly nice.

kyle washington 1st team all-american next year.i need to start a thread.
7/15/2014 3:39:25 PM
I just hope we aren't ranked preseason amirite?
7/15/2014 3:41:35 PM
^^He's already got a thread (two actually) message_topic.aspx?topic=641083^i know you're joking, but i see absolutely no reason why we'd be ranked preseason. I don't see us being predicted to finish in the top-half of the ACC. I'm cautiously optimistic we'll finish in the top 1/4th, but we'll see.
7/15/2014 3:52:21 PM
We do have a few quality winnable games starting up, Tenn at home, Cinn at home(?) Purdue away, so we could be ranked come ACC play.
7/15/2014 4:05:06 PM
I'm definitely cautiously optimistic about this year's team. We obviously lose TJW, and our scoring will have to be much more balanced overall. I would probably expect us to be projected middle of the pack in the ACC. Obvioulsy UNC, Duke, Syracuse, Lousiville (maybe UVa, I don't know who they lose) will be the upper echelon. But I think it's completely reasonable to think we find a way to be right there fighting for, say, 6th place. It's not like the rest of the conference are world beaters. I know it's early and we haven't played a game yet, but I'd say that making the NCAAT is absolutely the expectation.
7/15/2014 4:21:45 PM
I'm sick of everyone ranking FSU above us and ESPN ranking their coach above Gott. I just don't get it, what am I missing?
7/15/2014 4:50:14 PM
7/15/2014 4:54:57 PM
I'm normally realistic-to-pessimistic....and I think next year's team is going to be sick. We're not going to roll through the league or anything...but we're going to be top 1/3 by the end of the year. The only thing that can hold us back is if Cat gets injured or just really has a shitty year. If he's solid...then I think we're golden.
7/15/2014 5:09:55 PM
The 'go to class' part at the end was pretty great haha. BeeJay's no doubt in better shape, but that hook shot looked much better than last year too. Also seeing Washington score a basket with his right hand is a huge plus - feel like he was always trying to go with his left last year no matter where he was on the floor.
7/15/2014 11:32:36 PM
Washington started to develop a solid mid range jumper last season that was pretty crucial. he will be a huge asset this coming season.
7/16/2014 12:00:55 AM
Yeah Washington was the best offensive contributor of the 3 freshmen big men last year. Obviously you'd expect to see significant strides from all 3 of them this coming year. But I think Washington has a chance to be really solid if he can knock down that mid range jumper with more consistency and get a stronger down low. I'm definitely excited about this year. I think this team will be a lot of fun to watch.
7/16/2014 8:55:17 AM
7/16/2014 9:09:47 AM
Washington could be a freak if he figures out how a high post offense is supposed to run.Freeman's rebounding will be huge this season if he can work on finishing around the rim.BJ will be huge if he isn't huge.

Freeman was the best freshman by far. Don't know where all this Washington talk came from
7/16/2014 11:15:05 AM
Agreed. Wouldn't say by far, though. I appreciated his consistency.
7/16/2014 11:21:38 AM
By far? Eh, Freeman is definitely a strong, hard-working, dirty-working rebounding kinda guy that I think will continue to progress and be a solid contributor down the road, but I'm I wouldn't say he was the "the best freshman, by far".

Lol we barely made it last year and lost our best player and pg. Next year qill be another one of those warm fuzzy "aww were so cute young and getting commits for next year" year for the gott supporters then washimgton and anyone else who shows potential will transfer or go pro.[Edited on July 16, 2014 at 11:44 AM. Freeman was the most consistent of the freshmen bigs. But he was lacking on the offensive end. He certainly wasn't a threat offensively. But I'm really excited about Freeman going forward. If he can develop more of an offensive game, he'll be awesome. Plus he's a year younger than most players in his class since he reclassified. But as far as rebounding, defending, and pretty much not screwing up (besides not being able to knock down FT) he was really good freshman year.
7/16/2014 1:37:48 PM
LOL the slightest bit of interest in the upcoming season and here comes Earl. What a life to live.
7/16/2014 1:38:51 PM
never change e man. never change.
7/16/2014 2:15:02 PM
I love Freeman. Definitely the best freshman on the team last year. He's obviously a beast on the boards, but the thing that separates him is his quickness. He's got really quick feet and was outstanding on defense (and especially at hedging screens on defense). He's got some work to do on offense, but he has really great touch around the rim and a decent-looking shot. I don't think he'll have a breakout season or anything, but he's going to be a really really good player here.
7/16/2014 2:16:57 PM
all three of those young bigs were awesome, no need to get salty y'all.
7/16/2014 2:40:34 PM
Kyle was my favorite of the 3 last year, but I love them all.

Stats from last year on Washington and Freeman:KWashMinutes - 718FG-FGA - 73-168FG% - .435REB - 139BLK - 21PTS - 173STL - 6TO - 35Assists - 16FT% - .563NardMinutes - 811FG-FGA - 55-107FG% - .514REB - 199BLK - 9PTS - 141STL - 16TO - 17Assists - 21FT% - .449http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ncst/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2013-14/stats/season_stats.pdfI am somewhat surprised by these numbers. I thought Kyle would have been further away from Nard in some of these stats but they are close together. Interesting stat - TJ had 83 TOs last year [Edited on July 18, 2014 at 10:29 AM. Reason : I still think KW has a higher ceiling]
7/18/2014 10:27:44 AM
Washington's scoring and shooting was much more inconsistent than Freeman. I don't recall many bad games from Freeman...sure there were games where he didn't score much, or at all. But he didn't seem to make many mistakes. Washington, on the other hand, was much streakier...or at least that's how it seemed to me. Not sure how the stats reflect that.
7/18/2014 10:36:43 AM
See I feel the opposite. Nard just didn't seem like he was a factor in a lot of games to me. I think Kyle's energy level and enthusiasm is why I remember him more in games than Nard. That being said, KW definitely had issues with consistency but what freshman doesn't?[Edited on July 18, 2014 at 10:55 AM. Reason : .]
7/18/2014 10:54:55 AM
^^samei remember freeman being solid. some games he wouldn't make many plays, but he rarely made mistakes. washington was more up-and-down.
7/18/2014 11:04:58 AM
Comparison available during just ACC + top 100 RPI games?Probably good idea to take out the crap games to get a real effectiveness comparison.by my eye, I saw KW making big shots in big games and being a difference maker in the mid range for us opening up things at the top of the key.
7/18/2014 11:34:56 AM
I think it's fair to say that Washington was more memorable. Freeman was a consistent rebounder and defender...doing the dirty work, so to speak, but he certainly wasn't flashy. What Washington contributed, his mid range shot, along with energy level and more outward enthusiasm, just was a little more obvious and plain to see. I don't want to argue which player was better or whatever...I like them both and am really excited about both them going forward. They're difficult players to compare as they have different styles and contribute different things...even if they both play the 4 spot on the floor.
7/18/2014 11:41:49 AM
There's no need for in-depth analysis.Washington has a more polished offensive game...but was also an inconsistent freshmen. So although you had a couple games where Washington looked great and knocked down a few jumpers in a row....you also had a few games where he went 2-7 and didn't look great. Freeman had more muscle and a more developed body and didn't shoot a lot of mid-range jumpers. So he got most of his points off of high percentage put-backs and wide open dunks. He was asked to defend and get rebounds...and for the most part...that's what he did. But he also didn't have the capability to knock down that open jumper at the end of the shot-clock or bring his defender out to guard against that. They're different players and both bring positive things to the game. I think Washington will get bigger and strong and be able to bang like Freeman. And I hope Freeman will polish up his offensive game and be able to do some of the things that Washington can do. I do think it will be easier for Washington to bulk up than it will be for Freeman to develop a jumper and solid post moves...so I expect Washington to become the more productive post player....but Freeman will be more than serviceable as well.I expect both guys (along with Anya)....to be absolute beasts by their Junior and Senior years.
7/18/2014 11:45:48 AM
Nard was definitely better for us last year because our first, second, and third option was TJ so efficiency and mistake free basketball was what was needed from our young bigs. However, with TJ gone, I think Washington's willingness to take the shot and be a scoring threat will be more valuable.
7/18/2014 11:59:25 AM
7/18/2014 12:01:08 PM
I'm not sure how you disagree with that. Freeman obviously was stronger and had more of a "grown-man body". Freeman is a more of a defensive dirty worker. Washington it more of an offensive threat.
