I wanted to buy some GTAT, and I probably would have too if my other stock had not sucked so bad. Sad thing is I still would have lost less money if I had it in GTAT.

There are a few things I want to buy, but I don't know if I want to go any more into stocks in general right now, or wait to see if there's finally a correction to buy in on.

nibbled at Whole Foods (WFM) and Cognizant (CTSH) today...I already had positions, so I added to them a little bit.

I didn't want to make any really big stock purchases, but I hated to not buy at least a little on this dip.

If you'd of had the nuts to purchase a put on NFLX with a strike of $355 today you could have made $35 for every $0.30--assuming it stays at $330 or less until Friday.

^ What if you purchased a Nov $380p four months ago when it was at $430 and then closed it down when it went to $450 a month later

Quote :

ouch man, buy a call or call spread around any earnings play if your bullish. I don't think anyone would have expected a 20% move in either direction for NFLX. I closed down my above trade because I felt like there's no way it will move more than 10% on any bad news regardless by my expiration and I sure wasn't going to roll it out and pay more for more time. I haven't followed it much the last month but wasn't it trading around $470 at some point in the last 30 days?

Nice week for INO, they are feeding on the ebola frenzy with this latest uptrend. Finally broke that $12 ($3 pre-split) hard resistance level that it's been seeing over the past year...hopefully it will hold for now.

Their ebola vaccine was 100% effective in preclinical animal trials a year or two ago and they put it on the shelf due to there being no demand/chance of profit at the time. The success of INO-3100 this summer validated the platform so there is a lot of promise here. If things get too out of hand, you will likely see these few companies that have vaccines in development start to fast-track them...they will have some abundant access to test dummies.

yeah 35 left - sold the rest off for a loss of about $300 - made that up with the recent gains

first hour of singles day BABA has already done 2 billion in sales - should drive it up more is my guess

I still have the 100 shares I got at $90.40

I didn't intend to hold 'em for more than a day, and actually forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago.

I'm glad i did b/c I probably would have gotten spooked when it started dropping and sold.

With the VIX not too far from 52-week lows, and plenty of land mines out there economically (internationally, at least) and certainly geopolitically, why not buy up some shares of a VIX ETF? Next time any sort of shit is even in danger of hitting a fan, it will spike, and a nice profit can be made.

Obviously there are decay issues, like with a leveraged index tracker, due to the reliance on options...but if the idea is to "set the trap" and spring it once every few months when everyone gets scared and jumpy, is this a bad strategy? I guess what you're up against are the odds that there is such sustained tranquility that you decay nearly as fast as you have opportunities to sell on the spikes, but as long as you're watching the markets and not just holding it long-term without paying much attention, that isn't too likely, right?

[Edited on November 12, 2014 at 9:58 PM. Reason : talking vanilla VIX tracker, not a leveraged VIX tracker like TVIX, etc.]
