IMO, him wearing the C or not won't make a difference. He's still going to be looked to as a leader, so the pressure is still going to be there. Also, just realizing we signed two guys off the Leafs who went 2-12 in the last two months or so. What an epic failure.
8/15/2014 12:43:52 PM
Who?
8/15/2014 12:46:11 PM
Jay McClement and Tim Gleason from the Leafs... the Leafs went 2-12 at one point in March and April.[Edited on August 15, 2014 at 1:45 PM. Reason : back to my old ways of awful detail]

I feel like if the Canes could find a way to win 10 more games a year, we'd be much happier fans. It really shouldn't be THAT big of a task, right? Win 5 of those god damned OTL's, and then pick up wins against Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Winnipeg, and the Islanders. If they miss the post season this year, I'm done.
8/20/2014 8:08:33 AM
If we're not gonna reach the playoff, I'd rather we tank this year for Connor Mcdavid.
8/20/2014 10:22:31 AM
There's too much talent on the team to simply tank. Not that we would get the top pick in the lottery anyways.
8/20/2014 11:09:32 AM
The medical exam portion of that video was entirely too long and awkward. Brindamour looks like he could still play. Jeez that dude is in shape.

I think this is the only hockey thread that gets any attention, so I will place this topic here....NHL to Vegas? Seems to be a topic in the hockey community today. I for one think it's a horrible idea for all of the reasons in the article.http://www.si.com/nhl/2014/08/26/report-nhl-expansion-las-vegas-done-deal
8/27/2014 8:01:46 AM
I'd obviously go to a Canes at Vegas road game. But I don't see a team surviving there for long.
8/27/2014 8:48:42 AM
^Yeah I'm not sure how viable that would be long term.
8/27/2014 9:50:04 AM
^^ Dan Patrick was talking about it this morning and said he's heard it may not be an expansion team. Mentioned the coyotes or the hurricanes moving there. If karmanos is losing money in Raleigh he may as well burn his money if he moves to vegas
8/28/2014 11:20:23 AM
I'd love to hear the back story on how the Canes are considering a move to Vegas. I'm not discounting it's a possibility though.
8/28/2014 11:22:43 AM
Is the franchise seriously doing that poorly?[Edited on August 28, 2014 at 1:18 PM. Reason : I could see Phoenix because they've been losing money from the start. ]
8/28/2014 1:17:53 PM
Vegas can't support an NHL(or NBA or MLB) team. There's not a big enough permanent population to build a season ticket base. You'd be subsisting entirely on tourists buying single-game tickets, which isn't viable for a 41-game season. Karmanos isn't leaving Raleigh for that kind of risk. Hell, he'd go back to Hartford before that.
8/28/2014 1:21:45 PM
I thought they brought Waddell to the franchise to improve revenue streams, not move the damn team.
8/28/2014 1:30:32 PM
Even if Karmanos wanted to move the team, they have a lease through 2024.

just so you know, dan patrick isn't exactly unbiased when it comes to Karmanos:http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/sports/bags-garbage-espners-foul-radio-rant-disgrace-article-1.555185he hates him for moving the team from hartford, so of course he's gonna bring his name up when it comes to moving a team to vegas.
8/28/2014 7:55:51 PM
Wow, i've never seen DP act like KO. Usually DP is a bit more clever when he makes fun of people. However, I can't remember much about DP's ESPN days other than the two hate each other.

Going back to the comment on the Canes having a lease through 2024; I wonder if Atlanta had a lease with Philips Center that possibly WPG bought out? I could easily see someone like Seattle or Quebec buying out a portion of the lease with PNCA to get an NHL team there, but they'd probably get it much cheaper in Sunrise or Phoenix. However, only 2 teams in history have won the Stanley Cup and then ceased to be later, and only Ottawa moved. It would be unprecedented to move a SC team. Especially from a hockey market that is actually pretty healthy when the youth hockey market is included, and every year 96 magazines rank RTP as a top 5 place to live. Moving the team from Raleigh would be completely irresponsible for the ownership AND the NHL.
9/3/2014 3:50:01 PM
The Atlanta Spirit Group that owned the Thrashers made it practically impossible for a group to buy the team and keep them in that market. They owned the building and were going to charge an asinine lease amount for anyone who bought the team and tried to keep them in Atlanta and play in their arena. They made it pretty clear they didn't want anything to do with hockey.Karmanos doesn't own shit pertaining to the PNC Arena, so he couldn't pull that stunt.

This is why Vegas can't work for any sports team in my opinion:1. You don't make money on the sports team normally. You make it on the arena and entertainment dates filling that arena. Las Vegas is the most overserved city in the world when it comes to entertainment venues and casinos as anyone that watches various levels of domestic boxing can tell you, pay the most money for events. So take what the City of Glendale in Arizona and the Coyotes have dealt with on their arena and throw in a multiplier.2. I don't see any sports team having their arena tied to a casino a la the MGM Grand. So you'd end up with something like the Thomas & Mack Center.3. Vegas is Los Angeles on Steroids as far as the number of people that are from somewhere else and would cheer for the team where they came from, which makes creating a local fanbase difficult.4. The casino industry in general in this country is in a recession, and the casino industry drives the Vegas economy.[Edited on September 3, 2014 at 10:17 PM. Reason : /]

Fan town hall yesterday was excellent. Really like the approach Peters and Francis are taking. Focusing on drafting and player development versus burning a bunch of picks and prospects in trades, building 3 scoring lines, using Charlotte guys in roles that fit their skillset, and leaving the #1 goaltender job an open competition.http://www.canescountry.com/2014/9/4/6104217/fan-town-hall-meeting-a-success

^^ I hope Vegas happens though. Would make for a hell of a hockey trip. I'll take any excuse to go to Sin City
9/4/2014 8:23:28 AM
Vegas could be considered for an outdoor game, which I think has happened before? I also wouldn't mind the All-Star game being there, or some pre-season games. Or, having games there like has been done in London and I think Finland. A team there simply won't work.

This one is pretty cool... if you don't have time for the whole thing at the very least skip to 13:25 and watch from there. Love Pete Friesen.

In the past two weeks the Canes have hired Sergei Samsonov and Joe Nieuwendykas scouts. So there's that.
