Shitting all over Season 2 is so hot right now.Someone, please tell me again about the precious "hours you wasted" on this TV show.
8/11/2015 3:07:46 PM
Like all 8 of them?
8/11/2015 3:29:11 PM
8.5 since the finale went extra. It was worth watching but the writers could've cleaned it up a little bit and left out some awkward/unnecessary subplots to make it really good. Not saying I wasted my time - I would've stopped if I wasn't interested, but the plot was hella confusing until I watched/read summaries of it. Like season one, it started getting so great at the end. It sucks that TD totally reloads each season, but I like how they consistently give us actors in a new light than what we're used to seeing. It's like the SNL for movie actors.

Being a contrarian hipster is so hot right now.Someone, please tell me again why no one can criticize a horribly written TV show.
8/11/2015 5:02:16 PM
It was a piece of shit all around. I would gladly exchange those 8.5 hours for watching 8.5 hours of soccer or wnba

I'm curious if the people/person that liked Season 2 also saw Season 1
8/11/2015 7:47:05 PM
Season 1 is one of my favorite shows ever and I really liked season 2. I've talked to three other people IRL who thought the same. None of us expected a season 1 esque performance out of season 2 and watched them at completely separate shows. I'm not going to put it up there with season 1 or anything but I still really enjoyed the time I spent watching it and would gladly watch it again.
8/11/2015 8:42:25 PM
It wasn't up to the level set by season 1, but it was still a solid show that I liked to watch each week. Plot was super confusing and they had wayyyyyyy too many damn minor characters to help fill in this wide reaching story for the 8.5 episodes that they had, but that didn't make it impossible to watch. Definitely could've benefitted from being streamlined and a few minor characters cut or combined. People that are going out of their way to tell you how much they hate season 2 is some of the most annoying pop culture water cooler type stuff going on right now. The two things in the last few episodes that I hated were:1) Ray's son randomly having that badge with him on the damn playground at school.2) Woodrough happening to come out of the door exact door where the crop from '92 happened to be waiting.
8/11/2015 9:32:49 PM
It's also funny that all the evidence is entrusted to some random journalist. Once he breaks the story, he's gonna be killed for sure. He's basically ratting out multiple mafias and people high up in the police and government.
8/11/2015 10:02:00 PM
It is the same journalist that Ray beat the shit out of in the first episode for looking into corruption, he knows the dangers [Edited on August 11, 2015 at 10:17 PM. Reason : $$$]

SUCKED.Too many subplots. Too many drawn out episodes. They should have killed off Each of those characters in separate episodes. At least them having a kid together was cool...and seeing Franks wife.BUt otherwise, not a great season...I'll wait next season to watch and hear what everyone is saying.[Edited on August 12, 2015 at 2:38 AM. I've got a hard time taking Wes Mantooth seriously after this.

I half-assed watched the final two episodes last night...what was the Mexican gang's connection to everything? Were they working for anyone or did they just not get along with Frank? Everything else, I'm pretty sure I've got it.
9/21/2015 10:06:20 AM
It's been a few weeks but Frank allowed them to sell their drugs in his casinos on certain nights. I can't remember what he got out of the deal, maybe it was just a cut of the profits. Regardless, when the other guy took over and Frank burned all the casinos down, the Mexicans saw that as him going back on his deal.
9/21/2015 10:17:57 AM
Eh...I thought it was something deeper than that.
9/21/2015 10:34:01 AM
Those mexicans were jerkoffs.
9/22/2015 9:00:30 AM
Season 2 was an absolute clusterfuck

Oh we back!http://deadline.com/2018/01/true-detective-stephen-dorff-cast-season-3-hbo-anthology-series-1202234846/I like the cast, plot description sounds a lot like season 1, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
1/3/2018 9:53:27 PM
Why the enthusiasm after the letdown of season 2?
1/4/2018 1:23:05 AM
Because I like the cast, and the plot sounds more like season 1, which was awesome.
1/4/2018 8:51:19 AM
^ True, there is hope for some of the season 1 magic returning. story looks better.
1/4/2018 10:00:08 AM
Reading up, it says the original producer will be in on this season. that's great new.I like the cast as well. Hopefully they make it similar to season 1 in that story sense.
1/8/2018 12:55:40 PM
I watched through episode 5 of season 1 last night and just read this thread up to that point. Love the show but am disappointed I didn't see this in here:
1/10/2018 8:25:21 AM
^Don't even watch season 2, not worth it.If you're new to TD and want to watch, watch Season 2 first then Season 1.
1/10/2018 4:53:10 PM
There is no such thing as “Season 2”. Watch Woody and Matthew. Whatever that other bullshit was is not worth watching.
1/10/2018 10:20:03 PM
That's fair
1/11/2018 12:33:20 AM
Season three seems pretty solid.
1/13/2019 11:27:06 PM
That was a solid start. I like having the first two episodes drop at the same time and I’m definitely looking forward to the rest. An interesting change from the other seasons is a lack of rambling like we saw from Rust in season one and Ray/Frank in season two. Wayne and Roland have a good dynamic so far and it’s completely different than Rust and Marty.
1/14/2019 9:27:19 AM
Episode 1 pretty solid. Definitely inspired by west Memphis three
1/14/2019 9:15:30 PM
I really liked the way this started.
1/16/2019 12:46:28 PM
A+It's hard to top a pretty perfect S1, but just about anything can beat S2. I see they're throwing back a lot to S1 with the timelines, pagan imagery, etc, which might (?) become a crutch, but it seems to be working so far. Anyone been listening to/watching "The Flat Circle" aftershow from The Ringer? Short, but insightful.[Edited on January 16, 2019 at 5:18 PM. Reason : ]

i found that odd as well.
1/16/2019 11:19:08 PM
He keeps mentioning neighbors...Doubt 2 episodes in we have met the culprit.Obviously memories/memory loss and mental issues will be at the forefront____by the way, the makeup and old look they're giving Wayne is A++It's believable. HBO hired well.

The kids? I meant to the detectives. They were in Vietnam so they are in their late 20's or early 30's.
1/17/2019 8:53:15 AM
Anyone else notice that he was drinking Old Milwaukee at the bar? Nice nod to season 1
1/17/2019 11:56:03 AM
^ive only seen ep 1, but the whole thing seems to be a nod to season 1 between the plot, time jumps, coming back into police station years later to be recorded discussing old case (not that I’m complaining, season 1 was a fucking incredible season of television)
1/17/2019 12:11:47 PM
S3 is doing really well. Obvious parallels to S1 but it also reminds me of how bad S2 was haha.
1/30/2019 2:08:02 PM
Cole and Hart were on that ladies laptop screen
1/30/2019 5:38:11 PM
in ep4 or 3 - its pretty clear one of the culrpits is the old weird guy in the church pew. the white guy is so distracted with the brunette chick - just the way the camera pans around him in the background. they gave it away.
1/30/2019 7:04:33 PM
Damn. That opening shootout with the claymores was nuts. Why did the Native American guy started shooting the police? Those other dudes rolled up to his house with guns and other weapons with clear intent to hurt/kill him. With a decent lawyer he could have gotten away with a light term if anything. He was very evidently defending himself. He even said so to Hays -- "I was well within my rights until I shot the police". He even told Hays that he doesn't miss, and that he intentionally shooting the car door instead of him. That means that he actively saw the other police backup that arrived and chose to shoot them.
