im not sure what the context would be to say we're comparable to niu's baseball team. i dont even know if niu has a baseball teami guess that response makes more sense now, thoughi like our team, theyve done a great job getting back into the national picture after a rough start and the injury to trea but the reality is we have the same roster that has produced the teams we've seen in the past with two superlative players propping them up. hopefully avent can keep bringing in big time recruits like that. otherwise we have next season before it's back to hoping we can upset south carolina or georgia at their place every couple yearsi prefer to be realistic about our talent level when it comes to losses over claiming the team is lazy like what happened in most of the basketball topics[Edited on May 13, 2013 at 10:13 PM. Other than Rodon we don't really have another dependable starter. Ogburn was last year, but hasn't gotten it done against anyone other than mid major teams this year. Honestly feel like starting one of our better relievers in a last game of a series type situation and going 2-3 innings per reliever is better than starting games with Ogburn or Stone and hoping they can turn in a quality performance. Otherwise our offense has to be hot and they really haven't been since the GT series.
5/13/2013 10:25:03 PM
^We tried that moving Wilkins into a weekend starter, did not end well. Need Jernigan to get healthy and become the #2 man he is capable of.
5/13/2013 10:32:25 PM
scotieb24 It wasn't too bad. I about froze my feet off during the extra inning win over Virginia Tech earlier in the season though. This series showed our inconsistent starting pitching again. When they have some control, we can compete with people and usually we're able to produce enough offense to overcome a few runs. Obviously, you can't get behind early against good teams.
5/13/2013 11:16:33 PM
I think Clemson needs to win 2/3 against FSU and we have to sweep Duke and we can still win the Atlantic. Is that correct wolfdawg4?
5/13/2013 11:26:59 PM
Yep. In that case, we'd finish 19-10 and Clemson & FSU would finish 19-11, thus giving us the Atlantic. The FSU/Clemson series is at FSU.
5/13/2013 11:33:26 PM
Anyone know what the pitching rotation is going to look like for Duke? This Sat-Mon series followed by Thur-Sat series with ACC tourney starting Wednesday is a lot different timing than the rest of the season. Will our regular weekend starters pitch on shorter rest or will the lineup be adjusted?
5/14/2013 10:30:41 AM
Only game I'd take a guess at who would be our starting pitchers is Saturday and I'd go with Rodon based of normal rest.
5/14/2013 12:16:54 PM
I wouldn't be shocked to see Jernigan or Wilkens get the Thursday start to get them some innings. If we are going to go very far in the post season, we're probably going to have to get a decent start out of one of them at some point. I doubt we'd throw Stone out there on short rest.I'd guess on Ogburn and Rodon for the other two, but not sure on the order. That is just me guessing though really. I haven't seen anything official yet.
5/14/2013 6:54:18 PM
Expected rotation for #5 @NCStateBaseball vs Duke at the DBAP - Ethan Ogburn on Thursday, Carlos Rodon on Friday, TBD on Sat.
5/15/2013 5:29:16 PM
State is up 4-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Clemson is currently leading FSU 6-0 as well.
5/16/2013 7:38:14 PM
No way in fuck clemson wins 2
5/16/2013 7:52:34 PM
false. it may not be likely, but clemson has great pitching and their ace goes tomorrow.
5/16/2013 8:14:44 PM
Doesn't Clemson winning also kind of hurt us in ACC standings? Also, UVA up on UNC.
5/16/2013 8:17:32 PM
Clemson winning two would enable us to clinch the division if we sweep.
5/16/2013 8:35:30 PM
But a Clemson sweep puts Clemson in 1st, so let's hope it's only 2.I won't be upset if we come in 2nd, I just don't want to be 3rd.
5/16/2013 8:39:55 PM
Well yes, but you asked.
5/16/2013 8:44:01 PM
Double post, but we win. Florida State loses. Carolina loses (which makes 4 out of its last 5 "weekend" games)
5/16/2013 9:32:08 PM
Not a double if it's outside of :30. Thx for not making me check gopack for the final.
5/17/2013 12:14:41 AM
That went about as well as could be expected. We still have to take care of business, but we got the first step out of the way. Now we just need FSU and Clemson to split which is entirely possible and we get the 2 seed in the ACC and stay very much in the discussion for a national seed. The ACC tournament is getting bigger and bigger with two teams already locked into those top 8 spots and 3 more teams fighting to get another.
5/17/2013 6:38:55 AM
What would be the projected dates if we ended up hosting a regional and super regional? I am trying to decide if I want to put in for tickets but I have some trips coming up in June and want to know of any potential conflicts before I buy. Never mind I found it on the NCAA website. [Edited on May 17, 2013 at 8:36 AM. Reason : Should have done searching]
5/17/2013 8:30:11 AM
Boom. Come on Clempson.
5/17/2013 9:40:58 PM
Defeated Duke 7-6. Tied it at 6 in the 8th and then scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch in the 10th. Grant Clyde made the game ending catch on a foul ball. He had to lean over tarp cover into the first row to make the catch. We will be the 2 or 4 seed for the ACC Tourney. UNC is the 1 seed and Virginia is the 3. We win the Atlantic with the sweep and a Clemson win.
5/17/2013 10:54:16 PM
It's kind of awesome you can buy beer at Duke baseball games. The crowd was probably 80% State fans which is always fun for a road game.
5/17/2013 11:23:55 PM
UNC and Virgina fuckin with our emotions again
5/17/2013 11:26:20 PM

Off to a 6-0 lead vs Duke and Clemson up 1-0 early vs FSUhttp://www.d1baseball.com/2013/daily/0518.htm
5/18/2013 3:33:36 PM
Clemson leaves the bases loaded in two straight innings.
5/18/2013 5:05:30 PM
Is the clemson game on tv?
5/18/2013 5:29:41 PM
ESPNU...not looking good though, FSU now up 5-1.
5/18/2013 5:33:53 PM
Looks like Pool A: 1) UNC 4) NCSU 5) Clemson 8) GT. Pool B: 2) FSU 3) UVA 6) VT 7) Miami.
5/18/2013 6:34:26 PM
Switch Miami and GT.Schedule will be announced tomorrow. Apparently the #1 seed gets to pick which day of rest they want. Unless UNC picks Saturday, I expect we'll play them Saturday night.
5/18/2013 7:02:32 PM
State's Pool play schedule:Wednesday 7pm ClemsonFriday 11am MiamiSaturday 7pm UNC-CH
5/19/2013 10:26:03 AM
Maybe a stupid question, but is it safe to assume that the higher seed will be in the home dugout and the lower seeds will be in the visitor dugout?
5/20/2013 10:13:03 AM
For the first game, yes. Then 2nd game is usually the lower seed is the home team and then the 3rd game goes back to higher seed. From the schedule graphic for the tourney, it looks like we will be the home team vs Clemson and then the visitors vs Miami and UNC.
5/20/2013 10:32:44 AM
Thanks. Getting tickets for the UNC game and wanted to make sure which dugout we were going to be in.
5/20/2013 10:36:41 AM
I hear ya. Definitely want to be on the correct side for that game.
5/20/2013 10:44:15 AM
Absolutely. If I'm wrong, I'll just move.
5/20/2013 10:46:43 AM
Based on last year's State/Carolina tournament game, I wouldn't expect to have a whole lot of room to move around on Saturday if you end up in the "wrong section" (at least not that close to the dugouts) but there should be mixed contingents in just about every section.Just a heads up for anyone who is able to go to all three games, they apparently have packages for all 3 State games available now for $25/seat. I didn't see those listed yesterday morning when I bought mine, but I can't go to the day game anyway. Also, lol at the idiots commenting on WRAL that Rodon should be able to pitch on both Wednesday and Saturday.
5/20/2013 11:40:54 AM
standing room only at last year's unc/ncsu game in gboro...it was packed
5/20/2013 1:12:04 PM
Durham>Greensboro
5/20/2013 1:15:06 PM
True, but what does that have to do with anything? Although the DBAP is bigger than NewBridge, there were well over 10k at last year's game, which is more than even the DBAP's official capacity.
5/20/2013 1:51:13 PM
Oh it was just a statement.
5/20/2013 2:43:40 PM
are super regional sites given to the highest remaining seeds if any of the natl seeds lose in the regionals?
5/21/2013 8:34:49 AM
^yes
5/21/2013 12:10:14 PM
Two regional sites are paired together. If the national seed of that pairing does not win it's regional, the 1 seed of the other regional gets to host if they win their regional. Last year, UNC was the 6th national seed and their regional was paired with Arizona. St. John's won the Chapel Hill Regional and Zona won theirs, so Zona hosted the Super. If both number 1 seeds of the paired regionals do not win the winner will send in bids to host the super. That happend back in 2011 when Cal won the Rice Regional and Dallas Baptist won the TCU Regional. Cal hosted the Super, but at Santa Clara since Cal's field didn't have lights.
5/21/2013 12:28:07 PM
Are they selling beer at DBAP? I'm assuming a hospitality tent or something? Do you have to stand in a roped off area or can you take it into the stands?[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 3:36 PM. Reason : stupid rules]
5/21/2013 3:24:39 PM
5/21/2013 4:28:42 PM
^I think no, but you can walk around to Tobacco Road and buy a beer and stand out on the patio area.
5/21/2013 5:22:34 PM
Anyone got two tickets for Saturday's game?
5/21/2013 9:36:46 PM
