Sure. But shouldn't the NBA theoretically be consistent in their policies when it comes to civil rights?
9/16/2016 1:59:19 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't all the NBA games played overseas been either pre-season or exhibition games? The NBA will still allow pre-season games in NC, just not the all-star game which has never been played in China. So, technically, they are being consistent.

The NBA will take that stand on China whenever it becomes good for their bottom line. Right now shitting on NC is good business. And that's the NC GOP's fault.[Edited on September 16, 2016 at 2:28 PM. Reason : And McCrory, since it's his thread]

9/19/2016 10:16:24 AM
and not the thing that's turned our state into a national embarrassment and lost us hundreds of millions of dollars?
9/19/2016 10:38:01 AM
Nope - I place that particular blame on the idiots in Charlotte. They knew what they were doing, they knew the opposition they would get in the state government, and they knew it would cause a shit storm. And they are reveling in it.But I'm still not a fan of McCrory.
9/19/2016 10:44:47 AM
So the people in Charlotte who believe in equality shouldn't have passed a law promoting said equality because they knew backwards, wrong side of history thinking state level politicians wouldn't like it?

Look I've said it before - and my words here have proven it. I'm pretty moderate on most things - even so much so that I'm probably going to vote for Clinton because it looks like Johnson isn't going to work out.Except for the trans/cis/gender issue. All of this mess - thousands of jobs, millions of dollars, so 7 people can be less confused about what bathroom they should use.Hate? WTF I don't hate them. I just dislike the knights in shining armor out there who thikn they are helping these folks.[Edited on September 19, 2016 at 10:57 AM. Reason : asdas]
9/19/2016 10:54:24 AM
they've always gone to the bathroom of the gender they identify with. you're blaming the people in which the ordinance protected. HB2 effects way more people than just the trans community.
9/19/2016 11:03:09 AM
^That's part of my point. Trans folks are doing what they've always done. The ordinance in Charlotte, by them calling it out, caused all of this mess.Should have left well enough alone.
9/19/2016 11:09:55 AM
so they should just accept it when they are discriminated against because, hey... don't want to rock the boat
9/19/2016 11:17:39 AM
They aren't discriminated against. Everyone has the right to use the bathroom matching their junk. If they are actually suffering from the trans mental disorder they can have their birth certificate changed, or if they actually pass then nobody will notice. All of this bullshit just so the Feds can get power over the state and so SJWs can play pretend "activist" for an invented "victim class" making up a whopping 0.01% of the population. I'm sure next year there will be 5 more letters added onto LGBTPBBQ and they can make up new required accommodations for mental disorders. #progress #virtuesignal #tellbusinesseswhattodo

I don't like McCrory. Just because we may agree on one issue doesn't mean we go out for drinks every Thursday evening. His track record on just about everything is pretty bad. I mean he's not even trying to hide the fact that he's governing for Duke Energy Progress.

To be fair, as others have noted, transgendered people really weren't being harassed before Charlotte stupidly passed their ordinance. Could they have been arrested: probably. Were they being arrested: no. It certainly wasn't an ideal situation, but at least for the most part they could pee in peace. The NCGA acted stupidly and overreacted, you'll get no argument from me on that. But you have to also admit that Charlotte picked a fight that they didn't need to pick. Had they left out the bathroom portion of the ordinance (which, by the way, most certainly was "telling businesses what to do,"), we wouldn't be talking about it today, and transgendered people would still be peeing wherever the hell they wanted to. Charlotte made it worse by holding a sham "community forum" where people who opposed the measure were effectively not allowed to speak, which sealed the deal as far as goading the NCGA into acting.A discussion needed to be had about the issues involved, it didn't happen, Charlotte challenged the NCGA to a penis-measuring contest, and the NCGA obliged. That's what happened. And now the entire state is getting shit on because of it. Basically, everyone involved in this mess is a fucking idiot. Meanwhile, LGBTQ people are worse off because of Charlotte's inane actions for the time being. Thanks, Jennifer Roberts!
9/21/2016 1:39:30 AM
Charlotte affirmed that transgendered could pee "wherever the hell they wanted to" without fear of arrest or harassment. I'm not sure how you can call Charlotte stupid while describing the fact they previously could have been arrested as not "an ideal situation". According to your description, Charlotte is at worst guilty of codifying de facto bathroom usage.]
9/21/2016 7:36:17 AM
^^This is exactly what I was trying to say.Could we find some examples where people have been arrested for peeing in the wrong bathroom?
9/21/2016 8:21:20 AM
Charlotte identified at least 150 incidents when the bill was debated, there may be more but they do not track complaints because before the ordinance there wasn't anything the city could do
9/21/2016 8:55:48 AM
Complaints? Or straight up arrests? Because I would suspect people would still lodge complaints event after passing of the ordinance. I guess the difference is the ordinance would get rid of any official avenue for someone to issue a complaint.
9/21/2016 8:59:42 AM
people complaining of discrimination, during the debate in the city council they identified about 150 instances and said they all they could do was turn people away because they had no legal recourse. by passing the ordinance, the city was able to respond to complaints of discrimination.[Edited on September 21, 2016 at 9:10 AM. 9/21/2016 9:10:05 AM
Ok see well right there you can tell how my brain works when this issue comes up. I read where you said "complaints" and I totally took that as complaints by people offended by trans using the wrong bathroom. But you meant complaints of discrimination by the trans community. This is the one issue where I'm retardedly right. I've changed my views a lot over the years, but this one is tuff for me.

^^ In the general case, nothing is stupid about it. But in this case, the status quo was that transgendered people were peeing and pooping in peace wherever the hell they wanted to, the people who might cause trouble over it didn't know about it or didn't care, and everyone was happy. We have a certifiably insane NCGA who promised to drop the fucking hammer on Charlotte if it passed an ordinance regarding the issue, and Charlotte goes out and passes the ordinance anyway, in the face of massive local opposition and without holding any serious public forums about it.So what's wrong here? Charlotte passes an ordinance that it didn't need to pass, and in the process makes life HARDER on LGBTQ people across the whole damn state! AND, they passed this unnecessary it ordinance knowing that the NCGA was going to do something stupid in response! Transgendered people weren't being harassed at the bathrooms before Charlotte passed their ordinance. Now they are.Charlotte didn't stand to gain a single fucking thing by passing the bathroom part of the ordinance, but it risked losing a hell of a lot in the inevitable overreaction by the NCGA. Why pick that a fight where winning gains you nothing and losing costs you and your allies all across the state a metric shit ton?[Edited on September 21, 2016 at 7:17 PM. Reason : ]
