Deerhoof and Thee Oh Sees were awesome.New style wristbands are like torture devices, though.
9/7/2012 2:33:56 AM
As far as VIP bands, they've definitely helped me a lot in the past. Most of the significant line-cutting was done at Slim's and Pour House, but I think I did cut for a show or two at Lincoln last year.
9/7/2012 2:54:33 AM
i heard multiple random folks say deerhoof was badthose people are out of their goddamn minds
9/7/2012 2:59:48 AM
Ended up doing young magic>deefhoof>Matthew e. white (holy shit)>thee oh sees. So pleased with that.
9/7/2012 3:26:08 AM
so thee oh sees rocked my fucking glasses off and they instantly got crushed in the mosh pit. I will be blind for the rest of hopscotch. #2012memoriesThurs[X] Jenny Besetzt[X] Airstrip[X] Lilac Shadows[X] Hacienda[X] Holograms[X] Thee Oh Sees
9/7/2012 11:17:45 AM
How were the Holograms? I just missed them on tuesday.
9/7/2012 11:32:15 AM
^^haha, those were yours? I saw those on the ground and felt bad for the poor sap who lost em. By the time I saw them, both lenses were out and the frame was badly bent. Unless that was another pair of broken glasses.Last night I had the most fun I've had at Hopscotch since the first year. I was running around like a maniac mostly just catching snippits of stuff instead of full shows (the opposite of my strategy last year), and baaaasically everything I sound fuckin ruled hard. Started out at Phil Cook, then went and saw a half hour of Young Magic, then ran over to Berkeley for Gross Ghost (ruled), back to Memorial for Deerhoof (ruled), over to CAM for Holograms (amazing, surprise of the night), back over to Fletcher for Matthew E. White (unreal), over to Memorial for Liars (awesome), and then back to CAM for Thee Oh Sees (best show of the night) and finally closed it out with Pictureplane.Only caught 15-30 min. of each set (probably a bit more of Matthew White) but I totally loved every show I was at and had a fucking awesome time in general. Honestly, I liked jumping around a lot more than staying at venues for full sets. Had a killer time. Favorite sets were Thee Oh Sees, Matthew E. White, and Holograms, in that order.[Edited on September 7, 2012 at 11:51 AM. Reason : /]

My uncle wants me to check out Hiss Golden Messenger and report back to him lol. I'm trying to find someone else to go with.
9/7/2012 12:00:33 PM
Screaming Females made me very very happysaw a bit of Phil Cook and most of Lilac Shadows, Drique London, Hacienda, Screaming Femaleswalked into CAM during Thee Oh Sees and walked out immediately because I was stupid drink and hated the sound there[Edited on September 7, 2012 at 12:05 PM. Reason : y]
9/7/2012 12:03:59 PM
At Screaming Females there was a large blond girl at the front right of the stage that kept blatantly dance-touching me. Blerrghhghgh. Then a guy in a wheelchair came to the front directly behind her and she would not move so that he could see. There was also an older guy at the front that kept videoing everything and everyone with his phone. The girl beside me blocked his filming her with her hand multiple times. His girlfriend at one point yelled at people, "THIS IS OUR SPACE."[Edited on September 7, 2012 at 1:05 PM. Reason : .]

I'm gonna be at the pour house all night. I might give you a tshirt if you come see me.
9/7/2012 12:53:05 PM
looks like dillydaliant followed the exact same schedule I did (although I didn't see Gross Ghost) what a fucking nighttotally agree about how much these wristbands suck[Edited on September 7, 2012 at 1:02 PM. Reason : that Matthew E. White set was one of the most gorgeous sets I've ever heard]
9/7/2012 1:01:02 PM
^^What kinda shirt
9/7/2012 1:03:36 PM
pretty sure I saw ^ in front of the stage during the Deerhoof set also love not regretting passing on the VIP band this year (although it's still early, but it looks like things are going to be spread out just enough to not have to worry)[Edited on September 7, 2012 at 1:10 PM. Reason : not a single line last night]
9/7/2012 1:08:59 PM
^Most likely.I loved that set. Their... (for lack of a better word) shenanigans were so cute. And their drummer and funny-haired guitarist rocked so hard.
9/7/2012 1:28:34 PM
he looked a lot like Mike D

not sure, but i think i got on an elevator with angus andrew
9/7/2012 4:27:47 PM
if anyone knows of someone selling an all shows or vip wristband, i'm interested. i noticed that etix has 3-day passes listed on the site again, but i'm not dropping $110 + fees after missing the first night of the festival.
9/7/2012 4:57:34 PM
t0w3rs hid a bunch of split cassette singles around town. Hope to find one at least. I think they replenished them today...keep on the lookout.
9/7/2012 6:17:48 PM
i keep meaning to look for those

the next time i ever bitch about hopscotch.... like what bands are playing where and or who i would rather have playing there, etc, etc....someone punch me in the fucking face for being too reactionary. i can't lodge one single complaint about how this has played out so far. btw, if anyone knows when mt. moriah takes the stage during the day shows text me or post here, please. i'm trying to plan my day party line up and i've seen/heard conflicting info.great seeing scrumples, goodlife3, wisseau and VB tonight. hope y'all enjoyed yourselves. it sure seemed like errybody was.
9/8/2012 2:49:48 AM
nice meeting thegoodlife3.dan deacon is a god damn saint. maybe the most straight up fun i have ever had at a show. the constant stream of beer intake from 3PM on probably contributed to that.but so much crowd camaraderie.[Edited on September 8, 2012 at 3:48 AM. Reason : .]

I feel the same was as jstpack. Fuck me for ever complaining about the lineup. Such a great fucking weekend in Raleigh. Ital was the coolest thing I've ever seen
9/8/2012 4:16:06 AM
I love how everyone on here and on instagram/twitter are citing different shows as their highlights/bestthingever/etc.DOING IT RIGHT.
9/8/2012 4:20:27 AM
Dan deacon was fucking great. Also I got to buy missy thangs a beer. My night was made.
9/8/2012 4:37:17 AM
zack Mexico and wowser bowser at CAM were real coolCorrosion of conformity was sweet, but didn't understand why there wasn't a pit (at least from what I could see)And of course Dan deacon was insanely awesome. I may have lead some of you in dance and I apologize for that.Grayson Currin liked my shirt.
9/8/2012 10:25:10 AM
another great nightsurprise of the festival so far for me was Jackie ChainI rolled in there thinking I was gonna laugh at this dude then he burned the place down

9/8/2012 2:25:41 PM
A supreme congratulations for whoever the dude was who had his friends lift him up so he could kill the only remaining house light at Dan Deacon. That dude was on point. That show would've been even more insane at CAM, though.Bizarre moment: I got retweeted by "WRAL Out and About." The tweet was about Zola Jesus. WAT[Edited on September 8, 2012 at 2:31 PM. ok, i might be lame, but skipping out on wye oak to get some sleep. hopscotch 2012 has slain me.t0w3rs, nobunny, & danny brown were all really great. best 3/4ths line-up of any venue.[Edited on September 9, 2012 at 12:55 AM. Reason : .]

wye oak slayed. so tired.
9/9/2012 2:25:45 AM
SUNN O)))
9/9/2012 3:18:41 AM
wye oak were incredible.matthew e. white + the spits + wye oak + a ton of others = just won this shit for me.we're all incredibly lucky to have grayson, greg and all the talented musicians in this town, many of whom are on this board, to put this thing together and fill the void a town our size had for such a long time.after only three years, it's difficult to contemplate what Raleigh would be like without a Hopscotch. that alone makes me feel all sorts of awesome and recognize this thing is here to stay and get better and better.i'm ready to buy vip's to year 4 tomorrow and not think twice about it. i'll probably bitch again about some inconsequential bullshit about 6 months from now, and when i do, remind me to stfu and to just trust these dudes.[Edited on September 9, 2012 at 4:06 AM.
