Why do we wear white at home the first half of the year?
9/19/2011 2:47:50 PM
Yes, Dan Connor is serviceable... but Jordan Senn I do not trust... it's also time to get Darius Butler in the game.Looks like Omar Gaither is going to fill his spot. [Edited on September 19, 2011 at 2:53 PM. Reason : need a break out]
9/19/2011 2:49:17 PM
I think Lofa Tatupu is still out there. Former Pro Bowler for the Seahawks[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 2:53 PM. Reason : remember, Omar Gaither (Charlotte native) isn't terrible. He led the Eagles in tackles one year IIRC]
9/19/2011 2:50:07 PM
9/19/2011 2:52:31 PM
old, but Keith Bullock still a FA.
9/19/2011 2:52:39 PM
omar gaither isn't terrible, i'm more concerned that we no longer have a true spoken leader on the field at this point. all signs point to Johnson or Anderson needing to step up, but I don't see it. I'd rather sign a veteran to the league minimum and get an experienced field general out there.
9/19/2011 2:58:46 PM
9/19/2011 2:59:35 PM
Yeah. TD definitely isn't a vocal leader ... he's your classic lead-by-example guy. We're going to miss his speed more than anything. There was one play yesterday where Rodgers broke the pocket and seemingly had a lot of room to run. Davis chased him down from behind and stopped him from getting the first down. Can't replace that.Anyway, I actually think Connor will step up and be a leader-type out there.
9/19/2011 3:05:14 PM
yeah, Rodgers had a huge gap between himself and TD coming around the blocker and he still closed in a matter of steps. great play. it's a shame for this guy, but at this point I'm putting team needs first. I just don't think a combo of Anderson, Connor, and Gaither can handle what's coming down this season.
9/19/2011 3:08:20 PM
I feel for the man, but I'm not worried at all about what it means for the team this year. We're a 6 win team at best with everyone healthy, and losing Gettis, Beason, Davis, doesn't really change that. This year is all about Cam. His development puts everything else on the backburner. We're building a franchise, not a team. So we give up a few big plays every game, big deal. We'll win a few games and lose a few more, but wins and losses don't really matter until 2012 at the earliest. I'll miss seeing 58 and 52 run around on Sundays, but their impact doesn't really change the complexion of our season. But hey, at least Marty had the foresight to give himself a contractual out after this year with TD. He probably never plays another down in black and blue...if he ever plays another down at all.
9/19/2011 3:15:33 PM
also Cam Newton is in a boot today, according to Person. Supposed to still practice this week.
9/19/2011 3:35:47 PM
I remember seeing him get up limping at some point, maybe early in the 4th quarter.
9/19/2011 3:47:44 PM
It's shitty for Thomas Davis, how unlucky you have to be to put in all of that hard work to come back and then to have the same exact injury three years in a row. I bet he retires, and thank god we have an option to void the contract after this season. good luck to him though. Our greatest strength as a team has now become a huge weakness less than two games into the season[Edited on September 19, 2011 at 3:56 PM. Reason : {}]
9/19/2011 3:56:18 PM
we could always sign this guy
9/19/2011 4:12:14 PM
yeah, let's go ahead and put 3 LBs on IR in 3 weeks. dude can't even wake up in the morning without his brain slamming into the back of his skull
9/19/2011 4:13:57 PM
Panthers claim LB Jason Phillips from waiversit was probably a curse, Thomas Davis running out of the tunnel with Jon Beason's 52 jersey held out for all to see]
9/19/2011 5:05:29 PM
I think Thomas Williams is going surprise a lot of people...odd no one has mentioned him. He was all over the place during the preseason, now is his chance to make a name for himself.]
9/19/2011 5:30:59 PM
^^lol at the irony (and I don't care if I'm using the term irony wrong, you bunch of twits)
9/19/2011 6:29:28 PM
Nah man, your use of the word irony is totally inconceivable
9/19/2011 6:43:46 PM
Too early to talk about draft? At this time, it looks like LB has to be top of the list. III
9/19/2011 10:52:17 PM
Currently we are projected to take a WR in the 1st round because the Panthers probably won't pay Smitty the $7+million next year. Then a T in the 2nd round, and no 3rd rounder. I'd think it would be smart to trade down in the 1st to get a 3rd.
9/19/2011 11:05:16 PM
gonna be tough to trade down in the 1st when we have the 32nd pick overall
9/19/2011 11:06:31 PM
Ha.. current projections are the 9th pick. I like your optimism, though. It's got to be a serious concern that Beason is just like TD. I imagine the Panthers will cut TD soon because it will save $28 million or so over the next few years.
9/19/2011 11:11:32 PM
Good read that focuses on his pickshttp://nfl.si.com/2011/09/19/break-it-down-cam-newtons-interceptions/?sct=nfl_wr_a1
9/20/2011 11:29:00 AM
Smitty on Jim Rome at the bottom of the hour
9/20/2011 12:06:51 PM
How is Beason at all like Thomas Davis?pretty sure Sunday was the first game he had missed in his career
9/20/2011 2:12:50 PM
beat me to it
9/20/2011 2:17:59 PM
9/20/2011 2:46:53 PM
dan morgan had 25 tackles in the super bowl.that is all.
9/20/2011 3:12:36 PM
Did I miss something, where was Beas compared to TD?
9/20/2011 4:52:53 PM
CBS has the Panthers game this weekend with Spero Dedes and Steve Beuerlein on the call
9/20/2011 4:56:37 PM
^^
9/20/2011 4:58:38 PM
LOL... wowWhat I mean is that we just signed them both to big contracts, and Beas just shattered his achilles. If I am the Panthers front office, a fear is that it is not the last time he shatters his achilles. TD sold himself as being ready to go 2 seasons in a row, after missing the previous. Beason is gonna do the same. I apologize for the oversight on my comment, though.
9/20/2011 5:15:44 PM
Thomas Davis has been plagued by injuries his whole career and his contract has an outJon Beason had never missed a game before this achilles injurythere really is no comparison
9/20/2011 5:20:20 PM
if Beason rips his achilles again, then i will be worried. but for now, modern medicine plus Beason's ethic and drive should bring it back stronger than it was previously.^what he said
9/20/2011 5:23:49 PM
Looks like our old friend Peter King is even coming around...
9/21/2011 9:32:34 AM
looking forward to Sunday so much already. And i've still got to get through tomorrow night. WAR DAMN PANTHERS
9/21/2011 9:45:56 AM
500 yards and 4 TDs? JAX sucks.
9/21/2011 9:48:53 AM
After McCown's shitting of the bed last week, Jags are starting Gabbert at QB. There were a lot of people who thought Gabbert projected better in the pros than Cam (Not gonna lie -- at one point, I wanted Gabbert over Newton). Should be fun to watch
9/21/2011 9:57:34 AM
what you'll see is an overdose of MJD picking up 6-7 yards per carry and keeping Newton off the field.
9/21/2011 10:01:41 AM
http://www.sportspickle.com/news/8078/cam-newton-announces-his-retirement-from-the-nfl-theres-nothing-more-i-can-accomplish
9/21/2011 10:53:21 AM
MJD will have a hefty dose of rushes against us, but hoping the D will have an adrenaline rush and desire to prove itself in spite of the injuries. Get a few good stops and help keep the ball with Cam and the Offense.I think with Blane coming in for Jags, we should get more offensive possessions and Cam may be able to light up the score board and continue proving himself. Here goes Panther's first win and start of win-streak. Cam throws for over 350, maybe not 400 bc we get solid lead and use run game. 2 Passing TDs, 1 Rushing TD. III
