This. I just moved up to Captain, finally. It only took a few games to then move on to Captain lvl 1 or whatever. I don't understand who designed the ranking system or why they did it. To me the ranking should just be exponential, starting with ranking up quickly and then it's increasingly tougher to move up.

I really just care about making Lt. Colonel, so that I can get the last achievement I need for Reach.

ever play mariokart on the hardest difficulty, get half a lap ahead of all the computer dudes and automagically they're powersliding around you on the last turn... it's kind of like that.

I'm almost to the end of the campaign. I'm stuck on the MAC turret on heroic (fucking goddammit). I've really enjoyed how the multiplayer maps are integrated into the storyline.

Yea thats what I have disliked the most, I hate seeing the same textures in everymap. I know it was to "save space" or whatever their excuse is but this doesn't feel like a complete Halo game because all the multiplayer maps... kinda suck.

The only good ones are the Halo 2 remakes and even then they aren't that good because they don't play nearly as well on Reach as they did on H2.

there should be some daily challenges that are harder and worth more points. I enjoy having something different to try every day I log in, but on those days where I'm not working and play with friends a lot, having a bigger goal would make it more appealing.

Sprint is all you need. Learn to use the central grav lift and you can get anywhere on the map in seconds. The tiny outer ledges help a ton.

You mean like the weekly challenges? But seriously, they are going to make the weekly challenges more specific (and difficult) tasks, similar to the Annual and Classic vidmaster achievements from Halo 3/ODST.

And just yesterday one of the Daily Challenges was beat a Campaign level with certain Skulls turned on. The game isn't even 3 weeks old yet, they're giving players a chance to try everything out before they throw the hard challenges at them.

^I guess my beef would be more with the weekly challenges. I don't get on every single day for the daily challenges, but usually I knock out the weekly challenge on the first day of the week I play. There have also been times where a daily challenge is tougher & worth more points than a weekly challenge.

What about a weekly challenge like play 1 complete game of every game type this week, worth like 5,000 credits.

FYI, according to the latest Bungie Weekly Update, the matchmaking playlist update will be implemented TOMORROW.

SWAT will have its own playlist.

Team Snipers won't have it's own playlist yet (it definitely will eventually, just not yet), but the weighting for the Snipers gametype will be greatly reduced in the Team Slayer playlist. Which means it will show up less in the voting round.

I'm not sure if it's part of tomorrow's update or the one later this month, but betrayal-booting will be returned to the Halo 3 standard of "3 strikes you're out" instead of the current 1-strike setting. And of course that is still dependent on the person hitting X or B to boot or forgive you after your 3rd betrayal.

50 rounds of firefight or 50 games?

Because in most of the FF gametypes, there's a bunch of rounds per game.

I'm the opposite. Seems like every time I play RP people choose slayer. If I wanted that I would play Team Slayer (RP slayer is usually a clusterfuck). I enjoy the infection game types as well as other variants. I wish they'd have a playlist for new gametypes people create to test them out. Some of the forge maps/gametypes that you could download for Halo 3 were actually really cool, but never saw the light of day. I downloaded a few and played with friends, but a game that needs 8-10 people is no fun with 3-4.

Quoted for great truth. I am so tired of slayer. Seriously. I've been playing "track meet with guns" type games since fucking 1992. Invasion slayer is a bit more interesting, though, in that taking control points grants bigger guns or even vehicles. I almost wish there was an invasion CTF. I stick to Big Team Battle or Invasion almost exclusively, and it amazes me how often the same game types (and maps) get played over and over and over again. I'd love to exclusively play big team battle CTF and invasion slayer, and I might get into those gametypes 1 out of every 10 games.

yeah that video inspired me to use armor lock more on BTB. At least 3 times over only a few matches I killed people in vehicles that tried to run me over by using it. Pretty effective in those situations.

What armor abilities do you guys find the best to use? I swear it seems I suck with everything but camo and sprint. Armor lock seems to be nearly useless except for vehicle heavy maps. Jetpack just makes you a slow moving target. Hologram is okay against crappy players, but seems to suck against good players. And, drop shield only appears to be useful in firefight. I can't remember any of the other ones...if there are other ones.

In order from my most-used to least-used:

Sprint/Evade - General purpose. It's nice to be able to run to the aid of your teammates, or run away from grenades. Also useful for making jumps over longer gaps. Best AA in Headhunter.
Hologram - True, good players are never fooled for more than a second, but often that second is enough to give you an advantage. I find it more useful as a decoy when standing than when running. If I'm sniping from the top of Reflection I'll have a hologrom standing next to me or possibly facing the elevator.
Jetpack - I tend to use it on specific levels. The Cage, Boardwalk, Spire and maybe Boneyard. I might use it on Sword Base, but Sprint+Grav Lifts are just as effective for getting around.
Armor Lock - I only recently started using this one to cut down on my deaths in Arena. Basically any time you hear a grenade bounce near you go into lock. Splatter prevention in BTB. Really only useful in team gametypes where someone will save you or distract your enemy.
Drop Shield - Useful in Assault for arming/disarming (although I think they've removed it from those gametypes).
Active Camo - If I use this, it's more for the Radar Jammer aspect. I never camp, I'm always running towards the fight, so the cloaking effect really doesn't do much for me.

^I feel the exact opposite on Camo.

I hate the radar-jammer aspect of it. Not only does it let your enemy know that there's a stealthed player nearby, but it jams you, too. If I'm using it, I've either been forced to retreat or I'm trying to move behind enemy lines without getting shot at. Though I will agree that camping sucks. It's boring, and it's not really much of an advantage in 1-on-1 fights, anyway, unless you're trying to assassinate people (and those people are somewhat oblivious).

Hell, that's one of the better things about Reach... in one-on-one encounters, the most skilled shooter usually wins.

I wish I could just let this go, but the fact that Reach is a prequel is driving me crazy for one single reason: the weapons. From a story point of view, did the UNSC decide to stockpile all of their 60-round magazines for the assault rifle on the Pillar of Autumn? And they also apparently put all of the good rockets - you know, the ones which fly faster than 15mph - on the same ship. It's just really aggravating to me to see that the arsenal in each Halo game has gotten progressively weaker from game to game.

^ I can't tell if this is a serious post or not.

Are you really expecting them to not balance the weapons for each game? Do you really want there to have been four Halo games with the exact same Assault Rifle? And so what if this was a prequel. Reach was a military stronghold and research planet, so the in-canon excuse is that all of these prototypes were lost when Reach was glassed.

You complain about weapons getting weaker from game-to-game, but at the same time complain that the weapons in the prequel are weaker than the one after it. Make up your mind!

As for weaker from game-to-game, I don't know if you've noticed, but the following weapons are all more powerful than they were in the last game: Pistol, Shotgun, Rocket launcher, Plasma Pistol, Needler, Spiker, Grenades

Quote :

Well my point is that I don't use it for stealth at all. I use it when I see an enemy and want to jam his radar as I run up to him. It's also very useful to help your teammates attack an objective, and works well in conjunction with hologram. Sure, you lose your own radar, but it's as easy as swtiching it off for half a second to take a reading.

Not really

Pistol is still a 5 hit kill, and if anything it was nerfed with bloom and lack of dual-wield ability.

Spiker isn't even in multiplayer really and cant be dual-wielded, and is weak as hell in firefight.

The only weapons they really beefed up were the plasma pistol and needler, but again, with the lack of dual wielding you could argue the plasma pistol is actually a worse option than is was in H3 or H2.

The AR was obviously weakened, and the DMR is weaker than the BR, as the Needle Rifle is weaker than the carbine. And thats without considering bloom, which nerfs the weapons even more.

The sad thing is though, in the previous Halo games, the most skilled shooter always won assuming you were playing on a good connection. Sure Call of Duty is still a who-sees-who first game, but atleast in that the weapons are accurate. Halo took a huge step backwards with Reach. Reticle bloom was a terrible idea on the main rifle weapons, it slows down the game and allows room for randomness. Combine that with the increased autoaim and headshot hitbox twice the size of a player's head, it really decreased the skillgap.

In regards to randomness, this is a MUCH better game than Halo 3. At least in Reach you can shoot across the map effectively with something besides a sniper rifle... and with bloom, the randomness is controlled rather than constant.
