what scenario would have us going to the post season with a 5-11 conference record? I don't know that we could even get an NIT bid if we went 5-11 and lost the ACC championship game.[Edited on February 20, 2010 at 4:14 PM. Reason : lol CBI]

Who gives a shit the point is we dont need to give up on the season. We need to get rid of the stench of losing so we can accomplish things next year.If we go 5-11 against a brutal conference schedule that is a solid job with the squad we're putting out there.

FYI, the ACC top to bottom is super tough this year and we only play Miami and BC once.
2/20/2010 4:26:43 PM
I think pretty much everyone agrees it's not vintage ACC. It's certainly not the Pac-10 but I can't justify calling a conference with only two Top 25 teams "brutal."Most years the ACC has only one or two 100+ RPI teams and this year we have four.Frankly, I think you're just trolling everyone recently, so I'm not even going to bother continuing this.[Edited on February 20, 2010 at 4:28 PM. kenpom's formulation which is miles better than the RPI still has ACC as the number one conference. and ncsu is the lowest-ranked at #84.link: http://kenpom.com/conf.php?c=ACC[Edited on February 20, 2010 at 4:31 PM. Reason : .]

Pomeroy also does things based on efficiency which is inherently biased towards major conferences. I like looking at individual units (offense/defense) but don't think it does as good a job when ranking teams based on the whole picture (schedule/wins/losses/etc)Also, Herb's team is #36 in Pomeroy which I have a hard time reconciling with their actual play.[Edited on February 20, 2010 at 4:32 PM. kenpom: thinks the acc is goodrpi: thinks northern iowa is the #17 team in the nationboth need a credibility thread imo
2/20/2010 4:34:51 PM
It basically rewards teams who play easier schedules, especially out of conference.Very generally, the overall Pomeroy rating is based on the average of the offensive and defensive efficiency ratings. You are going to have a more efficient team (which Pomeroy defines as points for/against per 100 possessions) when you play an easier schedule.Obviously that is a very "loose" definition but I think you can see where I'm going with it.[Edited on February 20, 2010 at 4:36 PM. Reason : i know more goes in to the pythag rating but like I said this is very loose explanation]
2/20/2010 4:35:16 PM
i guess that's why BYU is ranked in the pomeroy top 10?
2/20/2010 4:39:00 PM
When it comes down to it the Big East has more top teams but the ACC is more consistent. The Big East has a ton of extra teams so they look much better than the ACC if you look an arbitrary poll like the top 25, but if you look at the league as a whole there really isn't a very strong argument for the Big East being better than the ACC top to bottom. If you look at the top 50 a higher percentage of our teams are in it. If you look at the top 80 our entire conference is in it while the Big East has two awful teams.
2/20/2010 4:40:04 PM
I just have a hard time putting much faith in any poll that doesn't have the Big East as the top conference (Sagarin, Pomeroy, RPI)Big East is the best conference based on the eye test

NEVER PLAY CJ AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or Horner. Or Degand. Or Javi. Or Wood. Or Mays.
2/20/2010 10:15:35 PM
^ok dont talk bad about D-HORN. He has chops and a flaming basketball tattoo. I actually think he should touch the ball every possession and never come out of the game.

horner's going to be hating it when he goes to play in europe and some guido already has the #31

guess he'll wear tshirts then

Wait where did all the Tony Bennett semen slurping go now that their season isn't any better than ours? You guys were ready to annoit him ACC coach of the year 3 weeks ago and now their resume is about dead even with ours.

but i thought all they needed was landesburg and some quality role playerswhat happened to that
2/25/2010 3:18:57 PM
Look dude, they beat us twice easily and have less stars, talent, blah blah blah than us.He's a great coach and you'll be hard pressed to find someone that isn't biased to say he isn't.[Edited on February 25, 2010 at 3:21 PM. Reason : They've been figured out and gone to shit and still managed to beat us twice, what's the argument?]
2/25/2010 3:19:54 PM
uva don't have less star than usbut you can say it's lowe's fault not getting better talents.
2/25/2010 3:27:32 PM
maybe good coaches can look shitty even though they aren't as terrible as they seem[Edited on February 25, 2010 at 3:29 PM. Reason : ^ EXCELLENT ANALYSIS]
2/25/2010 3:29:11 PM
Haha ok. It's year four and Lowe's still at the bottom.I would wager any amount you want that Tony Bennett will be in the NCAAs.....possibly in 3. His class for next year is solid too.[Edited on February 25, 2010 at 3:31 PM. Reason : ^^^Scout says they have 4* players: Landesburg, Scott, Jones]
2/25/2010 3:31:07 PM
where's our @Miami thread? that's a must win game... get them into last place
2/25/2010 3:34:44 PM
2/25/2010 3:34:54 PM
i agree that Tony is a good coach, and he'll get UVa to the NCAAs for surebut Lowe will take us there too
2/25/2010 3:35:55 PM
^Glad your sold on that. If he can't do it with Harrow/Brown next year he's gone.^^Virginia has more talent than us? They have one good player and a bunch of fringe ACC players (Just like us) but I know you'll say Sylvan is a guard but he's not a point he's a wing. Continue to compare our situations to others to make ours look better though....UNC, UVA, like I give a shit about others.
2/25/2010 3:38:56 PM
good call!typically you don't earn National Coach of the Year unless you're a good coach
2/25/2010 3:39:05 PM
Here's how our roster breaks down by stars:5 star recruits: nadda4 star recruits: Smith, howell, painter (note: 2 freshman)3 star recurits: horner, gonzalez, williams, mays, thomas, wood2 star recruits: degand, vandenbergAnd UVA has a superstar in Landesburg that can basically run the offense himself. So I'd say UVA talent > NC State talent.
