Anyone who has any clue about football knows that its probably the most coach-intensive sport thats out there. Thats a large reason why its on a weekly schedule so that the coaches can review tape, develop strategies, and implement schemes and formation. Right now, our defense is horrible and from what I've seen, we haven't made hardly any changes in our approach. Either that, or the players just suck.
11/2/2009 4:39:10 PM
and even if the players suck the coaches are the ones that recruited them
11/2/2009 5:59:26 PM
Tom OOOOO'Brien makes Sidney Lowe look like Phil Jackson.
11/2/2009 6:07:42 PM
What are you, fucking nuts?T O B at least had consecutive winning seasons somewhere. Sidney Lowe's definition of greatness is managing to break a .45 winning average.
11/2/2009 6:14:59 PM
TOB has said from the beginning this year that we aren't a good football team... and if you add to that the injuries that we have incurred, it has been almost impossible to get better as the year goes on. we just need some damn depth
11/2/2009 6:33:00 PM
^^ at least Sidney Lowe tries to make adjustments when his team shits all over themselves.[Edited on November 2, 2009 at 6:41 PM. Reason : f]
11/2/2009 6:40:48 PM
^^ bad but competitive and embarrassingly horrific are in two different stratospheres of athletic achievement. we can be a bad team and not get truck fucked by almost all of the mediocre to good teams we play.
11/2/2009 6:44:06 PM
And those of you that think it's the fucking players? You poor stupid bastards.
11/2/2009 6:47:55 PM
^^ you realize only one team really completely blew us out of the water (so far) this year, right?[Edited on November 2, 2009 at 7:24 PM. Reason : knock on wood bitches]
11/2/2009 7:24:04 PM
^ no I think BC just raised the bar on blow outs.. don't you dare try and act like shit is all peachy around the football program.
11/2/2009 7:36:22 PM
11/2/2009 7:54:38 PM
^ I guess Duke was close to a blowout...but really if you look back we were only down by 7 going into the 4th. The end score in my mind was more a result of panic setting in during the 4th (we gift wrapped at least one of those touchdowns for them).I'm not saying we are a great team by any means, but they have managed to keep most games competitive.
11/2/2009 8:19:10 PM
We had two turnovers on kick-returns that resulted in both of duke's last-qtr tds.
11/2/2009 9:10:58 PM
Yeah, that's the kind of thing that happens when you get blown out.
11/2/2009 9:15:47 PM
Being blown out is debatable. It was still a game in the 4th quarter. And you can't hang all 49 points on the defense.Of course the offense didn't score in the 2nd half.

the current staff is to blame for being dumbasses and not realizing there was a problem there when they arrived. it took them until the true freshman class this year to finally bring in a ton of DBs when they really needed to start loading up on the position as soon as they arrived. also, they werent recruiting ANY CBs for this class, showing that they were clueless and not aware of how big a problem they have
11/3/2009 1:16:29 AM
you could argue that the LB problem is just as bad as the secondary.maddox, manning, cole all should be not even sniffing the field except for certain situations. irving being hurt and michel being banged up have obviously hurt the LB core as well.
11/3/2009 1:50:16 AM
^^are you fucking stupid? These guys were here and capable of playing when the staff came that aren't here any longer:Javon WalkerJimmaul SimmonsDajuan Morgan(i include him because he left a year early....he was good, but noone expected it)Dominique EllisThey also recruited Akeem Cunningham who left this year.As a matter of a fact.......in their first full recruiting class, they brought in 3 CB's. CJ Wilson, Cunningham and Gary Grant. In this past years recruiting class, they brought in 3 CB's in Byrd, Smith and Dean Haynes. What more would you have liked for them to do with the CB situation?[Edited on November 3, 2009 at 1:57 AM. 11/3/2009 1:56:40 AM
after a certain point, injuries and attrition become a trend, not bad luck.[Edited on November 3, 2009 at 2:39 AM. Reason : I cant believe the same people that are fed up with Sid are using the "dry cupboard" excuse for TOB]
11/3/2009 2:10:16 AM
RAWR RAWR RAWRtime to run another coach out of town...
11/3/2009 2:27:27 AM
Urban Meyer's plane just landed at RDU. He's having lunch with Lee Fowler and then they will tour the fuhcilities.
11/3/2009 8:39:03 AM
Posting about whether losses are blowouts or not is ridiculous and irrelevant. I don't want moral victories--I want wins, and I think everybody else does, too. If it ain't in the win column, it's a loss--period--get it through your head. Anything else is just bullshit.
11/3/2009 8:40:59 AM
if he doesn't beat UNC, ride him out on a rail
11/3/2009 8:54:07 AM
fuck UNC.They dont count for more than any other division 1 team on our schedule. Its nice to beat a rival. 3-0 against them but in 3 losing seasons is still a fucking failure.
11/3/2009 8:57:47 AM
RAWR RAWR RAWRits so easy to just blame everything on one guy!!! clearly everything that is wrong with the football team is his fault!!! If we fire him now, maybe we will clearly be better next year!!! RAAAWWWRRR!!!!!Sometimes the evil you know is better than the evil you don't.
11/3/2009 9:34:41 AM
We know that we'll lose most if not all of our division 1 games with Archer at the defensive helm. What's the evil we don't know that is preventing us from looking for a new defensive coordinator? Losing most if not all of our games against division 2 opponents?[Edited on November 3, 2009 at 9:46 AM. Reason : -]
11/3/2009 9:45:11 AM
still credible!!!i look forward to next year...hopefully the defense situation improves
11/3/2009 9:51:54 AM
At least under Amato it was a season of inches. This is a season of ass kickings.
11/3/2009 9:56:45 AM
Ok you are not a good troll. You aren't even funny. At least Earl made us laugh. Are you really trying?
11/3/2009 2:22:29 PM
We are young in the secondary and at linebacker. 9 of the 14 players in the 2 deep for the FSU game are Fr or So. So it only makes sense that we would give up tons of points. They are sticking with the current scheme betting that they'll be better in the future after the same guys have been in the system for a few years.Would we be better by switching systems? Doubtful. The same guys that can't cover and are missing tackles in a zone scheme would get toasted playing man. Hopefully they'll improve over time. I think we're just bad defensively this year even before the injuries.Bottom line - TOB approves of the defensive schemes that Archer has implemented. And I don't think either are going anywhere any time soon.
11/3/2009 3:12:36 PM
you guys seriously need to take a step back... O'Brien has done a pretty good job over his three years here. I'd give him a B overall. We will get better over this season and should take a step forward again next season.Amato left the cupboard completely bare. We are playing young guys and being competitive. We are heading in the right direction. Now, we just need to beat UMD and UNC and I'll consider it a building season.
11/3/2009 7:19:52 PM
11/3/2009 7:32:43 PM
we went to a bowl game last year and this year we have one win over a D1 team and you call it a step in the right direction? TOB is 10-19 against D1 teams while at statenot so credible
11/3/2009 7:33:24 PM
STATE CHAMPS!! oh wait...
11/3/2009 7:35:24 PM
11/3/2009 7:46:14 PM
in agreement with rallydurham
11/3/2009 7:50:20 PM
In two years is when we have to look and see what our team is like. Thats when the first couple of recruited classes will make up the majority of our team. We still have people from Amato's classes at important positions playing. But at the same time, I would like to get Charlie Strong the d-coordinator from Florida as our head coach.
11/3/2009 9:36:15 PM
11/3/2009 9:45:37 PM
^ agreed. Not to mention we have been in really every game this season we have lost. Just a couple of plays here and there and we would be on top of the ACC. It's a good learning experience for the players for next year.
11/3/2009 9:54:53 PM
i agree that TOB has quite a bit going against him atm. i'm not ready to curse his name yet. we've been very very close in a lot of games, but to say we've been competitive in every game this season isn't true.we had no chance really against duke and bc...
11/3/2009 10:00:44 PM
i just read up on our secondary and looking at how young and inexperienced they are i feel a lot better actually.i mean they suck beyond all belief.
11/3/2009 10:08:13 PM
i'm not worried, Mack Brown had back to back 1-10 seasons and we kicked his ass and in 2 years he had them finish in the top10 and out-recruited us. Not saying TOB WILL do that, but i think sticking with a system and letting everything sort itself out over a couple years is necessary. One thing ive been pretty impressed with is the offensive pass-protection and run-blocking the last few games. RW has all day to throw.Looks like Jarvis Byrd is going to be good, too bad Rashard Smith and the rest of the first-team is out for the year.
11/4/2009 1:53:11 AM
it's obvious that TOB CAN do a lot with a little. I just hope that our fanbase will give him a couple more years before everyone tries to run him out of town. I mean Bobby Bowden had 2 losing seasons before they went on to 30+ years of winning seasons. That wont happen here but the point is our fanbase is quick to push a coach out before their peak (it would seem). or at least we are quick to push a coach out regardless
11/4/2009 2:59:42 AM
No way he is out the door, but he is making basic coaching mistakes you wouldn't expect a coach with his background and experience to make. I wonder if part of the problem is he is distracted trying to address all of the other issues the team has that he forgets about things like clock management. Watching Saturday's game makes me wonder if our team even practices 2-minute offense...
11/4/2009 6:03:04 AM
TOB is still credible. It's the defensive coordinator that is not. I don't think anyone can judge what TOB's position is with regards to Archer. I don't think TOB is the kind of guy that would attempt to bring on a new defensive coordinator mid-season and it's not like he'd come out in a mid-season press conference and say that one of his coaches is gone if there isn't a major turn around. I will say that some of his recent quotes defending the coaching staff while throwing the players under the bus weren't that inspiring. The end of the season will tell. Yes the defense cupboard is bare, etc. It's unfair to compare but I would have thought that Duke was in a situation where they haven't had anything in their cupboard for over a decade. They sure can pull it together a lot quicker than we can apparently. And all the injuries we suffer... is it just a string of unusually terrible luck or is their something wrong with our strength and conditioning that is making the players more prone to injury?[Edited on November 4, 2009 at 8:34 AM. Reason : -]
11/4/2009 8:33:20 AM
11/4/2009 8:58:56 AM
^^ It is an amazing string of terrible luck. We WILL be due though, our time will come. I just hate being the A-typical pack fan and saying that, but it is true.If our players were injured and then came back and re-injured the same previous injury then I would be concerned. However I do like the idea of every linmen wearing knee braces on both knees as a preventative measure. I see it done with alot of other schools. But I do see a problem that the knee could be weakened by it.
11/4/2009 9:42:43 AM
^^ part of getting blown out is doing dumb bullshit to get blown out..... just sayin
