I love the Office, but I'll be pissed if Carell leaves and the show keeps going. It has been losing steam steadily over the last few seasons and shouldn't go anymore than one more season.

i'm wondering if Jim is going to become boss or if they're going to come up with a new character/bring back an old one

Jim as boss sucked. Jim is only funny in the context of playing the straight man to Michael and/or Dwight's crazy antics.

By himself, Jim isn't funny at all.

Just saw this from Sepinwall. Personally, if Carell is gone I say just end it but that ain't happening since it's pretty much NBC's only comedy that can stand by itself like he said.

The show is at it's best to me when Dwight and Jim are going at it and really I don't like Michael as a character all that much but I'm not sure how the rest will work not feeding off of Carell.

I'm in the minority but I didn't like Season 5 at all and did like Season 6 so maybe I'm different than you people.

"(Speaking of actors from "Parks and Recreation," Fienberg suggested that Daniels and Mik Schur loan Nick Offerman to their sister show for a four-episode arc in which Ron Effing Swanson briefly goes into the private sector, is hired to clean up Dunder-Mifflin from Michael's usual messes, and then moves back to Pawnee. That would certainly be fun - I can picture Dwight having a man-crush on Ron that would make his previous Michael idolatry seem like complete ambivalence (and I could also see Ryan, and Kelly, and the account department all digging the guy) - but of course what sitcom on television would not be improved by the temporary addition of Ron Effing Swanson? What part of life would not be improved, for that matter?)"

this would be pretty funny for a few episodes. dwight and ron interaction would probably be gold

I think I saw somewhere that Gabe or whatever is going to be a series regular so maybe they are setting up him to take over for Michael. I don't know, I kind of liked his character but I hope they don't throw him in to a big story line like they did Erin. She ruined half of the season for me with the stupid Andy/her storyline, even though I thought the individual episodes were funnier than Season 5.

hmm, I've been tying to think up a good replacement actor.

George Clooney - could pull of quirky well, but too big a star
Jason Bateman - if only because I want more Arrested Development
Ricky Gervais - temporary only, quickly replaced
H. Jon Benjamin - as long as it doesn't steal him from Archer
Will Forte - if he's not too big a star after Macgruber

Rhys Darby (Murray from Flight of the Conchords) - my favorite so far

I would be interested in The Office without Steve. I certainly wouldn't write it off immediately, anyways.

I've been unable to really put my finger on exactly why i don't love the show as much as i used to. I think it's because the characters are becoming less relate-able. I think a new Micheal Scott would force the writers to actually go back to work.

I also think they should get rid of Andy and Erin. Their both just bumbling idiots and I don't find their characters interesting at all.

Toby/Stan/Oscar are on an island by themselves. The rest of the office crew has just become very polarized and the show has suffered, i think.

I think the new boss should rearrange the seating in the office, shuffle everyone around.

I wonder if the Scranton branch will see their numbers fall when Michael leaves? That would be funny (although I suppose they covered that somewhat with the Michael Scott Paper Company).

Other people (who aren't funny at least on this site) speculating about what would be funny ruins chances for things to be funny

I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

Quote :
"Rainn Wilson failed to snag an Emmy nomination for "The Office" Thursday, but he still has reason to pop open the champagne today: The actor has emerged as the odds-on favorite to succeed the departing Steve Carell as boss.

"I'd love to see Rainn Wilson in that position," says coexecutive producer/costar Mindy Kaling, who snagged a much-deserved Emmy nomination for co-writing last season's four-star Jim/Pam wedding episode. "Dwight has become so nuanced -- you actually care about him now. I think if [we did a good job laying the groundwork] this coming season, he would be a fantastic boss.

"But that's my dream," she adds. "It certainly hasn't been approved by people that are more powerful than me and who make those kinds of decisions."

Kaling says she's always been a "promote from within" kind of gal as opposed to "trying to throw in an element of the show that people don't know. It's like the stand-up [expression]: The audience doesn't want someone whose hand they haven't sniffed."

Of course, in Kaling's perfect world Carell wouldn't be going anywhere. (Carell recently confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he'll be moving on when his contract expires at the end of next season.) "We're still infatuated with Steve and love him so much that we're hoping for some 11th hour like, 'I really do like this schedule and I like craft services here, so I don't want to go.' But I'm going to take him at face value and [assume] he's not being coy and that he really wants to [leave].""

Lol at "celebrating"

Its not like he gets more money in real life if he's promoted on the show

If by nuanced she means cartoonish and totally one-dimensional then yes, he has become nuanced.
