had to drive from richmond to philly twice in the last week.I don't know how you NoVA/DC people cope with life. I guess if you live where you don't have to drive much it's probably no issue, but those that commute... WHY? it's gotta be 1-2 hours sitting in a car each way every day on top of an 8-10+ hour day. what in the world makes that worth it? Yesterday on the way back from Philly we timed it perfectly, leaving philly around 10am, hitting the north side of baltimore about 11:20, and made it through to Quantico by 1pm, only by virtue of the HOV lanes being open in our direction. The people who were in the regular lanes of I95 were stuck in a parking lot. our next trip, we're gonna try to take the train instead.

People pay through the nose to live within, or close enough to, the city so that they don't have to commute, imo. Many people that I know in the area rarely even drive their cars, if they haven't sold them all together. You can do a lot here with the metro/bus/taxi combo plus renting a zip car if you really need it.Else, you live far enough away where the cost of living is cheaper. But you end up losing 2 to 3 hours out of your day commuting.

I live and work in Alexandria, so it's not too bad for traffic, only time I ever really get on the beltway is when I go to the Bojangles in Oxon Hill
4/17/2014 6:52:04 PM
The answer is, I cant remember the last time I drove outside of DC proper on purpose

What budget level are you looking at? What type of cuisine are you hoping for? DC has a good dining scene, so it would help for some color on what segment you want to enter in. Not sure if you're looking to drop a couple hundred or couple bucks a head.
4/21/2014 1:05:12 PM
Did you really suggest a restaurant in Falls Church for someone visiting actual actual Washington (which I assume is where they'll be)? What the fuck is wrong with you?Just go check out the Washingtonian restaurant guide. It's comprehensive enough for visitors.[Edited on April 21, 2014 at 1:24 PM. Reason : .]

Best burger I've had in DC is The Draftsman at the Drafting Table on 14th st. Something about the sauce and arugula that makes it unlike any other, plus the patty is the proper handmade type. Shake Shack burger is a glorified BigMac compared to it.

I was a fan of Ray's Hellburger when I lived in Arlington. But I think it's now closed (but Ray's To The Third is open?) and I almost never leave DC, so that's probably not much help. Also I've never found Founding Farmers to be overly hipster-y. It is kind of neat how it's owned by the North Dakota Farmer's Union though.[Edited on May 1, 2014 at 1:28 AM. Reason : .]

I'm moving to DC, sort of. I'll be living there m-f and driving back to central PA for weekends with the wife. Any suggestions for a not-scary and not-expensive 1-bed (or studio, maybe) near Alexandria (specifically exit 4 on 394)? First glance made it look like I could be 1500/mo, maybe under. Any places to certainly stay away from?
5/29/2014 9:44:27 PM
I pay 1390/month (6 month lease) for my 1-br, closest interstate exit is Van Dorn St. off 495[Edited on May 30, 2014 at 3:04 PM. Reason : ]

Anyone want to play co-ed softball in an alumni league (Capital Alumni Network)? We're especially looking for females and younger players to fill out the roster.Clearly, I've come to the right place...

Glad to see this thread, We are moving to the Crystal City area this summer and working in DC. Planning on riding my bike to work and driving as little as possible. I was in town for the Rock n roll Marathon and between driving from Upper Marlboro to Arlington and into the city for packet pickup I never want to drive around there again! Is there any places where State fans watch games?

Has anyone been following the series of strong arm and armed robberies lately?
11/19/2015 11:57:58 PM
I'm sitting in the brand new bdubs at the Navy Yard metro. It's nice and new in here. It will be interesting because this will give big competition to both Gordon Biersch and The Big Stick.By the way, the alumni association has a section blocked off at The Ugly Mug in barracks row for game days. We watch the football game if anyone wants to hang.
