That's exactly my situation right now. I have an Asus 901 with an upgraded SSD and RAM, and I also have a Motorola Droid. I don't need much else.[Edited on March 8, 2010 at 10:37 AM. Reason : Page 10 says buy a netbook]

welcome to the club frosh. i use a acer 11.6" (1366x768 and full size keyboard) solely. i want a larger battery. i can get like 2.5-3 hours with the 3 cell.oh mine was 225$
3/8/2010 4:42:13 PM
I love my dual core atom and nvidia 9400m in my netbook with HDMI out. Windows 7 is fast. Although i really want that new Alienware $799 11.6" netbook (M11x). CULV c2d and nvidia GT335M.http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-m11x?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mnNot really a netbook in terms of price but it's small and has an 8.5 hour battery life.
3/8/2010 5:21:13 PM
Just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix alongside Windows 7. I really like this interface.
3/9/2010 9:39:48 PM
I'm going to buy an iPad and look down on you netfags while sipping my blue mountain pressed coffee.
3/10/2010 6:43:43 PM
haha i'll be typing on my laptop keyboard laughing at the ifags trying to type out emails on a touch screen. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Tablets aren't supposed to replace laptops.
3/10/2010 7:03:41 PM
i'll be typing away on my 8 hour battery life on my full sized laptop while you netfags squint at your tiny ass screens and shitty battery life...oh wait...and sipping my Earl Gray
3/10/2010 7:05:29 PM
I think you're confused here. 8 hours is now bad. Netbooks are now 12-14 hours with the newer atoms. You're comparing apples and oranges again. If someone wanted a laptop they wouldn't buy a netbook.
3/10/2010 7:08:10 PM
if someone wants a tablet they won't buy a netbook.
3/10/2010 7:29:54 PM
haha sure they will. I have a 12" 1366 by 768 netbook and i wouldn't mind having a tablet too. They're completely different things. You're not going to be sending mass emails or word processing on a tablet like you can with a netbook/laptop. Again a tablet isn't supposed to replace a netbook/laptop.
3/10/2010 7:32:53 PM
3/10/2010 7:42:22 PM
Your tone just made it sound like no one would need BOTH a netbook/laptop and a tablet. I was just saying I wouldn't mind having both considering they'd be used for completely different things.
3/10/2010 7:55:34 PM
^dude, let it go...i was just going along with you and sandsanta's joking around of netfags/iFags and sipping coffee etc etc...I wasn't actually being serious with that post. Sorry if I touched a nerve.
3/10/2010 7:59:19 PM
yeah i know. just didn't get the shitty battery life=netbook thing though. i gots me some orange chai with milk and honey.
3/10/2010 8:02:30 PM
My 17" beast has an 8 hour battery life because its cool like that.
3/10/2010 8:03:19 PM
I am impressed by the battery life on the Mac Book Pros. Too bad Apple takes forever to update their laptops. They're still running core 2's and 9xxx series nvidia chips. Never feel like spending money on outdated hardware. haha just playin.
3/10/2010 8:08:24 PM
but but its prettttttty outdated hardware
3/10/2010 8:30:54 PM
That it is.
3/10/2010 8:36:55 PM
the battery to power a 17" mac to 8 hours would weigh more than 3 netbooks.
3/10/2010 9:03:04 PM
6.6 lbs
3/10/2010 9:18:58 PM
lol. just the battery?
3/10/2010 9:50:40 PM
No that's the entire 17" MBP. They're pretty nice. You're paying for the niceness though, not the hardware. The 17" start at $2500 and trust me Apple knows how to rip you off. They charge you an extra $300 to boost that outdated core 2 duo from 2.8ghz to 3.06. $600 for an extra 4 gigs of ram. Also an extra $50 NOT to have the crappy glossy display. You can easily find a nice i7 laptop with a nice new GPU in it for under $2000 that would demolish a MBP. But it wouldn't look as pretty as Golovko pointed out.
3/10/2010 9:57:22 PM
The other thing that makes it really really nice is that it doesn't run a bloated outdated OS by default. Of course you can pay extra and buy a license to run that bloated crap if you so chose.
3/10/2010 10:15:48 PM
What bloated outdated OS are we talking about? I'm running Windows 7 which plays nice with all my gaming, design, engineering, and cad software. None of which runs on OSX. Which BTW Apple makes you buy their hardware to run.
3/10/2010 10:26:14 PM
8 hours for a 17" laptop is an achievement.

I, too, enjoy spending $4000 for an Apple when the equivalent PC can be had for half the price.
3/11/2010 1:30:20 PM
Although Apple laptops are cheap compared to really nice laptops. I just customized a 17" dell/alienware with an i7 920 and dual 5970s for $5200. jeeeeez.
3/11/2010 1:52:54 PM
Yes but that would destroy an Apple laptop.
3/11/2010 1:55:18 PM

3/11/2010 2:08:22 PM
^^There's not much that wouldn't destroy an Apple laptop. Hipsters don't game or do important things.

haha i was just kidding. Portal 2 hasn't come out yet.

Except they don't. I wish they did or i'd have gone that route as well, however your 50" screen is the limiting factor in your setup.
3/11/2010 4:59:41 PM
huh? actually they do look better. At 1080p it's rather easy to see how a computers graphics rival a 360's. Anti-aliasing, vertical sync, anisotropic filtering all maxed out look WAAAAAY better than on a 360. That's not really something that's arguable. It's obvious new games maxed out are going to look better on a PC with new hardware than on a 4 year old video game console.
3/11/2010 5:03:48 PM
You're still playing at 1080p...if you want to flex your e-peen then play on a 50" screen at a much higher resolution. Then i'll be envious and want to upgrade my 360 to something better.Until then you've just got all that horsepower, constant upgrading, money pit to play the same game that my $300 piece of hardware does which also does everything I'd want an HTC to do with a pretty UI.[Edited on March 11, 2010 at 5:11 PM. Reason : .]
3/11/2010 5:09:06 PM
haha. i'm just saying even at 1080p it's easy to see how a PC outdoes a 4 year old console in the graphics department.
3/11/2010 5:11:13 PM
I, too, have hooked up PC's to large screen tvs and it looks like complete ass. This is why I stopped wasting my money in such things.
3/11/2010 5:12:17 PM
3/11/2010 5:13:59 PM
We both know it looks like ass especially with text but only one of us is convinced otherwise since said person has sunk so much money into it.
3/11/2010 5:15:19 PM
I haven't sunk that much money into it at all. Remember I'm a poor college grad. Doesn't look like ass at all. Just finished Mass Effect 2 on it and everything worked fine. Looks much better than the 360 version. Were you not wearing glasses or something? Newer PC games look great on a big HDTV. Much crisper, clearer, and no jagged lines like on a 360. I'm sorry you haven't had the same experience.
3/11/2010 5:18:21 PM
Ok, so you don't actually have a badass gaming rig after all then, jokes on me I guess.
