CBS does a "fact check" on the debate... not that I trust the CBS Fact-Checking Squad all that much, but still interesting.http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/02/eveningnews/realitycheck/main4496799.shtml

It's kinda ironic that Biden came off as less of a politician than Palin, who was basically just a talking point machine tonight.
10/2/2008 11:06:01 PM
she did those talking points anytime a question came up that she didn't have memorized a response that was previously taught to her for regurgitation.
10/2/2008 11:07:55 PM
Nucular. At least this wasn't a spelling bee.I am so smart. S-M-R-T.
10/2/2008 11:10:52 PM
Nucular naivete.
10/2/2008 11:13:14 PM
Palin was just cranking out talking points, frequently unrelated to the question or topic at hand. But Biden sounded a lot like a politician as well, spinning the economic issues with his class warfare rhetoric and distorting the facts on McCain's tax plan.
10/2/2008 11:13:47 PM
NU QUE LAR POTATOE
10/2/2008 11:13:56 PM
Biden is handily ahead on CNN & MSNBC's online polls.http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/2/23101/4268/952/618411
10/2/2008 11:22:05 PM
Those aren't online polls. Those are the snap polls they do right after the debate, where they call undecided voters who watched the debate. The online polls have a way bigger margin than that
10/2/2008 11:23:30 PM
What is wrong with our society that causes "knowledgeable" to NOT be universally recognized as the most important factor?
10/2/2008 11:24:20 PM
Drudge's online poll has Palin ahead
10/2/2008 11:25:13 PM
are you dissin' CUTE?
10/2/2008 11:25:30 PM
I think it's going to get pretty bad for Palin when they start re-airing portions of this debate and show her "answers" to some of these questions. Yes, she came across as charming, cute, folksy, etc. but she also demonstrated that she was about as deep as a mud puddle and about as qualified to be president as the average American that she claims to so deeply empathizes with.
10/2/2008 11:28:06 PM
i'm so sick of hearing the skewed "analysts" on every news channel. they don't even try to hide the fact that they are just spouting the rhetoric of their party. when do we get to hear actually independent minded people have a discussion about who did better
10/2/2008 11:28:15 PM
Yeah, my roommate and I were sitting there flipping back and forth between CNN and FoxNews. It's almost comical to hear the vast differences in opinion.
10/2/2008 11:29:27 PM
Ill admit, I was pretty scared in the middle. She looked lost for a bit.. but she then seemed to get comfortable and held her own. I think she missed on alot of chances to really hit back, but missed it. I dont believe you have to have a winner in a debate, but I think palin did better than expected and Biden came off very likeable. I dont think Palin hurt anything, which was huge, but mccain needed something to give him a bump.. this might get him a little bump.. or at least slow down the slide. imoBut seriously, did biden say to have judges adjust ones mortgage rate and principle? WTF man.
10/2/2008 11:30:48 PM
Supplanter...when you post these liberal network polls, are you just pointing out the fact that they are biased or do you really put any value to them?Again you can sit there and feel confident because you think she came off as a neophyte, but her folksy regular person tone is going to resonate with a lot of independents.I remember reading that in the Kennedy/Nixon debates, those who listened to the debate on the radio felt that Nixon sounded more knowledgeable and those who watched it on TV thought Kennedy won because of his personable appearance.
10/2/2008 11:31:56 PM
I'm still astounded that not one pundit has mentioned the nu q lar thing yet.

gotta love the irony. Media and some here between this debate and the other. Where mccain clearly had a better grasp on the issues, but many felt obama performed better and was more likeable. Now the roles are switched... just an interesting dynamic.
10/2/2008 11:40:44 PM
10/2/2008 11:42:55 PM
^^I see a difference there, though... Obama knows how to craft a sound-byte and phrase a sentence to make it sound "right". People like him because he seems intelligent.Palin wasn't even forming complete sentences or coherent thoughts during the portions of the debate that I watched... She gains ground by acting "cute" and having an accent. People like her because she seems "like them".Not to say that one is better than the other, they're both horribly shallow traits to vote on... but personally I prefer "sounds smart" to "sounds like the average american"[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 11:46 PM. 10/2/2008 11:43:41 PM
Well I prefer them to be right on issues, not how they perform. Just what I go onDid noone else catch the Biden bit about judges and mortgages? Wow are people missing that bit of WTF.[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 11:48 PM. Reason : .]
10/2/2008 11:47:43 PM
i def thought biden won...only thing i got tired of was his "3 things...1 etc etc etc, 2 etc etc etc, 3...." thing....one time he even said "a)" and then said like 5 words and went "1 etc etc etc, 2 etc etc etc..."
10/2/2008 11:48:12 PM
^^I do too... so... Biden very solidly won this debate since Palin barely even answered any questions at all, and Obama and McCain was, imo, too close to call. I thought McCain was better on certain issues like energy policy and military strategy, while Obama did better on social issues and foreign policy... neither of them is that great on the economy, which is unfortunate.^He had a distinct structure to the points he made, and the points he was making were typically obvious. How is this bad, besides the fact that it might not "appeal to the average person"?[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 11:51 PM. Reason : .]

10/2/2008 11:52:34 PM
wtf dude i didnt say anything about it appealing to the average personjust saying he shoulda switched it up...its similar to palin saying "energy Independence" and "maverick" all the time...its like writing an essay and using the same phrase too much
10/2/2008 11:54:07 PM
Obama?Souless?
10/2/2008 11:55:11 PM
earth, I think Obama is alot more likable than dukakis. I just wish someone would point out some of his plans.
10/2/2008 11:55:22 PM
10/2/2008 11:56:04 PM
Classic mistake being made here -- projecting what you think most voters might feel instead of going by what you actually observe. It's kind of arrogant, really.
10/2/2008 11:56:05 PM
yeah dukakis had a really annoying voice
10/2/2008 11:56:06 PM
I suggested doing a shot for every time she said "maverick" yesterday. Good thing we didn't go through with that

hilarious tww analysis in this thread

i agree with eyedrb with the mainstreet/wallstreet thing

^Are you referring to a different thread? I don't see that here...nvm, apparently you are referring to the mention of Main Street as a buzzword... just skimmed that one, but I agree with it too.[Edited on October 3, 2008 at 12:04 AM. Reason : .]
