I was at that Nashville game with my g/f... fun times.

I remember Voukon launching his stick in to the boards after it...

Doubt we will find out much since teams aren't required to report what injuries are.

I'm betting you are going to see a Matt Cullen style refusal to ever actually say it's a concussion.

Boards nothing, he threw it into the netting and got a nice 10 minute penalty to go along with his L.

damn. just looking at the highlights on the hurricanes site i really wish i had recorded it but i jinx it when i do that.

figures they never show the game at 3:00 when i want to see it. maybe it's just because i didn't get to see it in slow motion or from different angles but how wasn't that 2nd islanders goal not interference? he ran right over ward.

and what the hell happened to pitkanen?

"MONTREAL -- Hurricanes center Brandon Sutter continues to be evaluated at a Long Island hospital today, team spokesman Kyle Hanlin said.

Sutter apparently was knocked unconscious in the third period of the Canes' 4-3 victory Saturday over the New York Islanders. The rookie was hit by the Islanders' Doug Weight -- a legal but vicious collision that left Sutter on the ice for several minutes.

The team will release further information on Sutter's condition later today, Hanlin said.

Defenseman Joni Pitkanen, who suffered an apparent sprained knee, has returned to Raleigh for treatment. "

To further update, this doesn't look very good. Sutter is in the hospital until at least tomorrow.

Quote :
""The league should at least stop saying it's concerned with hits to the head, because it's not," Rutherford told TSN.ca. "I've had four players - Erik Cole, Trevor Letowski, Matt Cullen and now Brandon Sutter - get badly injured on hits to the head and only one of the guys who hit them was suspended. So don't tell me the league is concerned about hits to the head because it's not.

"I realize there are only two ways you can go on this. Either you have a penalty for head-checking, like they do in the Ontario Hockey League, or you don't and we don't in the NHL and I understand that and that's fine, I guess, but don't tell anyone you care about protecting the players' heads because it's not happening.""

Quote :
""You can say it's a contact game and it is, and I'm fine with that," Rutherford. "Just don't say you care about players getting hit in the head because you don't.""

^^ Exactly. You want clean hits to the head to continue to be legal, then that's fine, but don't say another goddamn word about them.

I hope the kid's all right...he's got all the talent in the world.

don't know if you'll like it though, it's typically really good quality but the frame rate is really choppy due to settings beyond my control

This = poop.

I was going to ask if any other teams have this kind of luck with injuries...

But then I remembered that Philly has:

Derian Hatcher
Ryan Parent
Randy Jones
Danny Briere
(Also had Steve Downie out for a bit)

And they are at the bottom of the standings (just over the Islanders).

.... I'm not feeling very confidant about this year.

http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/2008/10/brandon-sutter-improving.html?cid=136566595#comments

Quote :
"Devils coach Brent Sutter said his son, Brandon, is "improving" after the Carolina Hurricanes rookie center suffered a concussion and lost consciousness on a hit by the Islanders on Saturday night.

Sutter drove his son to Penn Station in New York this morning to catch a train back to Raleigh, N.C. because he is not allowed to fly so soon after having a concussion. The train left Penn Station at 7 a.m. and is supposed to arrive in Raleigh at 4:30 p.m

Brandon Sutter spent Sunday night at his father's condo in New Jersey after being released from North Shore Hospital on Long Island earlier in the day. Brent Sutter said he spent Saturday night at the hospital with Brandon, who was held overnight in intensive care.

"They monitored him very closely," Brent Sutter said.

Sutter said his son did not recognize him at first.

"He kept asking the (Hurricanes) trainer questions," Sutter said. "He said, 'what was the score tonight? Who did we play?' He slept a little bit and woke up and said, 'Dad! What are you doing here?'"

Sutter said his son's memory improved by Sunday morning, though he still does no remember the hit by Weight or anything that happened after it.

"That's normal for anybody," Sutter said. "Sometimes you get your memory back quicker."

Sutter got word that his son was injured on the bus ride back from Philadelphia on Saturday night. His wife, Connie, watched it live on television from Red Deer, Alberta.

"It was hard on her," Sutter said. "She was watching the game. She was pretty upset about it."

Sutter said his wife planned to go to Raleigh and stay with Brandon for a week. "He can't do much," he said. "He can't drive."

Sutter didn't see a replay of the hit until Sunday. He tried to avoid talking about it, "I told myself I wouldn't respond when I get asked about it because I'm Brandon's dad and I'm coaching at the same level.

"I'll just say a check like that wouldn't have happened 20 years ago," he said.

The more he spoke the more he said, though.

"In today's game it's considered a clean check, yet it's a check that is also a very dangerous check," Sutter said. "When a player is vulnerable like that, you're putting yourself in a position to injure another player."

Brandon Sutter was leaning forward, trying to handle a puck that had rolled off his stick when Weight hit him.

"Brandon won't do that again," Sutter said. "He's a pretty smart player."

Sutter admitted he was "knocked out 10-11, time in my career and I played through it. I'm not saying that's a good thing. That's probably why I'm screwed up now."

Sutter admitted it was fortunate that his son was injured on Long Island, which allowed him to go visit him, but said it would have been better if Brandon wasn't injured at all.

"I wish he could have been on the flight to Montreal with the team and it didn't happen," he said. "But it happened and the Hurricanes did a great job."

^^finally add some channels. thank god.

now we don't have to wait halfway through the 1st period whenever they actually do a HD game for them to switch the feed. and you don't have to worry about the recording issue.

I know Brent Sutter is a professional and all but I have to wonder the next time the Devils play the Islanders if he doesn't send out Clarkson or Rupp to send a message to Weight.

I just noticed that Wallin leads the league in Plus/Minus. Maybe it's a good thing we can't trade him since he has actually been a pretty reliable D-man this year. I hope he keeps playing well and this isn't a fluke as we'll need it with Joni and Kaberle down.

I hope Sutter does send one of them after Weight - he's a douche. He almost cost us the Stanley Cup when he took that stupid penalty in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. But I can't wait to see us play them again - I think Gilles should be called up just for that game and say have at it. That could be a very good one to watch.

As for the injuries issue and the Flyers, they are hurt yes, but their losses are more due to bad goaltending then the injuries present. I just hope the remaining players can carry their own weight, otherwise we might have to trade/sign someone who can help us out in the short/long run.

They will tell you free, and I guess it technically is.. but you have to have Digital Cable + a HD box.

RDS is a TV station in Canada. We don't get that here.. I'm guessing they just have that up so Center Ice people know they can get to it.

I'll stream it online, and you can see what the stream looks like in a few minutes I might do a game going on tonight http://justin.tv/ncsu1

so uh apparently conboy and downie got into it on saturday night (surprised i didn't see it in this thread)

dodge crosschecked downie from the side/back and downie didn't like it, got up and pitchforked dodge in the face with his stick

conboy went after downie, and apparently bit downie on the hand sometime in the melee, either before or after downie got bodyslammed with his jersey up over his head

on the one hand, biting is a bitch move

on the other, downie is after all a bitch and deserves whatever cheap shots can be dished at him
