Hold over flame briefly to burn off any hairs. Boil feet in salted water for about 5 minutes. Drain and rinse. Throw everything in crock pot except broth. i keep seeing this as crack pot or cock pot... i guess my tww filter does not recognize crock pot as an acceptable thread title.

Have beef stroganoff cooking right now
5/16/2011 9:14:44 AM
I am going to throw some black bean mushroom chili in at lunch. I had to buy some tomatillos for it last night. Tomatillos are weird.
5/16/2011 9:26:01 AM
Stroganoff ended up being very tasty. Here's the recipe.2 pounds stewing beef1 package sliced mushrooms1 onion, chopped1 clove garlic, minced1/2 cup beef broth1/2 cup red wine2 teaspoons paprika1 teaspoon rosemary1 can cream of mushroom soup1 cup sour cream2 tablespoons flour1 tablespoon mustardEgg noodles2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsleyThrow everything but last five ingredients in crock pot. Cook on low eight hours. Mix sour cream, flour, and mustard together. Stir into crock pot and cook on low 15 minutes. Serve on top of cooked noodles and garnish with parsley.Today I'm making crock pot chicken parmesan.
5/17/2011 9:44:16 AM
Did you brown the meat before tossing it in the crockpot? Just curious what other people do with recipes like this (I always brown first)
5/17/2011 9:45:50 AM
Normally I would but I was feeling lazy and just threw it in raw. And to be honest the only real difference I saw was the meat basically fell into shreds which was still tasty.
5/17/2011 10:00:24 AM
The chicken parm was good but the chicken fell completely apart. Is there a way to keep the meet somewhat intact?
5/17/2011 9:54:40 PM
Chicken is strange in crockpots, I've noticed. It always wants to just flake apart even if its only in there 4 hours.Things like Chicken Parm I usually just use the frying pan and oven
5/18/2011 7:59:39 AM
Yeah this was my first time attempting it in a crock pot. Probably won't do it again. Not that it wasn't good, but I like the chicken intact.
5/18/2011 8:10:51 AM
yeah chicken ends up mushy in a crock pot
5/18/2011 8:12:05 AM
I've done WHOLE chickens and they turned out pretty well, but you run into problems with just breasts and thighs
5/18/2011 8:16:59 AM
SaabTurbo's bbq chicken recipe with chicken breasts never turns out mushy for me. It's been amazing every time. It pulls apart so easily after about half way through an 8 hour cook so maybe that isn't what you're looking for
5/18/2011 8:51:00 AM
so i made a recipe that called for 1 can of diced tomatoes but i only had diced-in-sauce. i didn't drain the sauce. is it gonna be nasty?
6/22/2011 9:34:19 AM
you ruined it- just throw it out now
6/22/2011 9:38:40 AM
it's at home. i dont want to come home to a big tomatoey slop but im scared that's what it'll be
6/22/2011 9:43:12 AM
nah, it should be fine- and if you are really worry about it, when you get home, take the top off and let it cook longer
6/22/2011 9:44:01 AM

Broke it out for some chili the other weekend. I usually don't add beans but I heard a protip about putting them in that worked out really well.Make your chili as normal, cooking 8-10 hours. Normally you add your beans at the last 10 mins or so just to warm them through, but instead this time you cook the chili again for another 8-10. After that you can use a quick hand blender to break up the extra beans if you like. This makes for some awesome thicker chili without the need for masa flour or other thickening agents!
8/17/2011 4:04:20 PM
I've always just thrown the beans in at the very beginning. I didn't realize this was wrong
8/17/2011 4:05:02 PM
Haha probably isn't at all...tell you what though cooking that shit 20 hours was the best idea ever!
8/17/2011 4:05:54 PM
I tried the recipe dmidkiff shared a few posts up, and it was very good straight out of the crock-pot. But now that I am eating the leftovers for lunch, I am even more impressed. Great, easy, cheap recipe. Will definitely try again.
8/22/2011 1:10:38 PM
so i would like to discuss putting tenderloins in the slow cooker.there are tons of recipes out there for pork tenderloins in the crock pot, but i've also spoken to a lot of people who say tenderloin should never be slow cooked. that it's an expensive, lean cut and is best prepared other ways. thoughts?i for one always grill my tenderloins, or if i'm without a grill i sear on all sides and bake in the oven.
9/14/2011 10:50:19 AM
Personally I wouldn't waste money cooking tenderloin in the crockpot. Crockpot is for cheap cuts of meat that benefit from slow cooking imo.
9/14/2011 11:00:41 AM
^gotta have fat, yo
9/14/2011 11:07:03 AM
that's what i always say. It seems when i speak with people in passing and a pork tenderloin is brought up everyone is quick to say "oh man did you put that thing in the crock pot? it's so good". it's only experienced people who say "oh man i hope you didn't put that in the crock pot"

the fuck, i thought this said 'crack pot' recipes, like crazy easy/cheap shit that is easy to make, but i guess that works for the crock pot tooi'm still adding it to my topics
9/14/2011 11:59:26 AM
^ hahahahaShit, I think since it's supposed to be cold on Friday I'll make crock pot chili for dinner. I have a crapload of beans I need to use up before we move next week

Thinking about making some crock pot BBQ for the weekend
9/14/2011 2:41:56 PM
Made a beef stew in my crockpot this morning. Hope it's good by the time I get home!
9/14/2011 3:34:23 PM
i made a pork tenderloin without browning it and it was fine. take that, alton brown. i just did 15 mins at 450 for about 20 mins.
9/14/2011 3:38:03 PM
9/14/2011 3:40:54 PM
I'm honestly too lazy to brown meat before throwing it into the crock pot usually. Crock pots are for when I want to do the most minimal amount of cooking possible
