1 pound pigs feet (easiest to buy from Grand Asia where they're already cut to proper size)
500 mL vegetable broth
1 stick granulated kombu stock (optional)
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon chili oil
2 teaspoons ground cayenne
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup mirin
1 cup soju or whiskey
1 small daikon radish, peeled and cut into chunks
1/4 head Chinese cabbage, cut into chunks
1 large carrot, peeled and cut into chunks
1 package fresh shiitake mushrooms, halved

Wash and dry feet. Hold over flame briefly to burn off any hairs. Boil feet in salted water for about 5 minutes. Drain and rinse. Throw everything in crock pot except broth. Top off with enough broth to cover ingredients. Cook for 10 hours. Enjoy!

Before you make it let me double check the proportions in my cookbook when I get home. Right now I'm just trying to remember from what I did last night to prep it

Not sure if I can find pig's feet anywhere close (too lazy to drive to cary or the farmer's market, atm) so I might make some chile verde

4 pound chuck roast, or pork shoulder/butt
1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
1 small onion, diced
1 (4 ounce) can diced chile
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
10 tomatillos, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons cumin
2 teaspoons sage
1 Tablespoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more, to taste)
1/4 cup chopped cilantro leaves

8-10 hrs on low

Wondering if I should add some beans for a starch...any suggestions?

I am going to throw some black bean mushroom chili in at lunch. I had to buy some tomatillos for it last night. Tomatillos are weird.

Stroganoff ended up being very tasty. Here's the recipe.

2 pounds stewing beef
1 package sliced mushrooms
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup beef broth
1/2 cup red wine
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon mustard
Egg noodles
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Throw everything but last five ingredients in crock pot. Cook on low eight hours. Mix sour cream, flour, and mustard together. Stir into crock pot and cook on low 15 minutes. Serve on top of cooked noodles and garnish with parsley.

Today I'm making crock pot chicken parmesan.

Did you brown the meat before tossing it in the crockpot? Just curious what other people do with recipes like this (I always brown first)

Normally I would but I was feeling lazy and just threw it in raw. And to be honest the only real difference I saw was the meat basically fell into shreds which was still tasty.

The chicken parm was good but the chicken fell completely apart. Is there a way to keep the meet somewhat intact?

Chicken is strange in crockpots, I've noticed. It always wants to just flake apart even if its only in there 4 hours.

Things like Chicken Parm I usually just use the frying pan and oven

Yeah this was my first time attempting it in a crock pot. Probably won't do it again. Not that it wasn't good, but I like the chicken intact.

I've done WHOLE chickens and they turned out pretty well, but you run into problems with just breasts and thighs

SaabTurbo's bbq chicken recipe with chicken breasts never turns out mushy for me. It's been amazing every time. It pulls apart so easily after about half way through an 8 hour cook so maybe that isn't what you're looking for

I made this today---it is off the hook and took less than 5 minutes to prepare. I just added some minced fresh garlic, 2 bay leaves, and some fresh ground pepper. Even my 2 year old daughter tore it up!

it's a recipe out of the Biggest Book of Slow Cooker Recipes

http://www.amazon.com/Biggest-Cooker-Recipes-Better-Gardens/dp/0696215462

3 med onions cut in to thin wedges
2 lbs meaty chicken pieces skinned
1.5 cups diced cooked ham
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp dried thyme, crushed
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 14.5 ox can diced tomatoes
1 14 ox can chicken broth
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp bottled hot pepper sauce (we use tobasco, and i use more than that)
1 10 oz frozen sliced okra
1 cup frozen baby lima beans
1 cup frozen whole kernel corn

1. mix everything but the veggies and cook for 8 hrs on low, 4 hrs on high
2. remove chicken, cool slightly, remove meat from bones and return meat to cooker
3. add frozen veggies. if previously cooking on low, switch cooker to high setting and cook for 45 minutes
4. serve it up!

now the tortellini soup i just put on smells and looks really yummy. i'm excited for this

6 oz cooked smoked turkey sausage, halved lengthwise and cut in to 1/2 inch slices
2 cups shredded cabbage w/ carrot (coleslaw mix)
1 cup loose-pack frozen cut green beans
2 14.5 oz can italian stewed tomatoes
1 10.5 oz can condensed french onion soup
3 cups waters
1 9 oz package refrigerated cheese-filled tortellini
grated parmesean

1. mix all items except the tortellini and parmesean.
2. cover and cook low setting 8-10 hrs, high setting 5 hrs
3. mix in tortellini and set to high for last 15 min of cooking
4. serve it up & sprinkle parm on top

Broke it out for some chili the other weekend. I usually don't add beans but I heard a protip about putting them in that worked out really well.

Make your chili as normal, cooking 8-10 hours. Normally you add your beans at the last 10 mins or so just to warm them through, but instead this time you cook the chili again for another 8-10. After that you can use a quick hand blender to break up the extra beans if you like. This makes for some awesome thicker chili without the need for masa flour or other thickening agents!

I tried the recipe dmidkiff shared a few posts up, and it was very good straight out of the crock-pot. But now that I am eating the leftovers for lunch, I am even more impressed. Great, easy, cheap recipe. Will definitely try again.

so i would like to discuss putting tenderloins in the slow cooker.

there are tons of recipes out there for pork tenderloins in the crock pot, but i've also spoken to a lot of people who say tenderloin should never be slow cooked. that it's an expensive, lean cut and is best prepared other ways.

thoughts?

i for one always grill my tenderloins, or if i'm without a grill i sear on all sides and bake in the oven.

Personally I wouldn't waste money cooking tenderloin in the crockpot. Crockpot is for cheap cuts of meat that benefit from slow cooking imo.

that's what i always say. It seems when i speak with people in passing and a pork tenderloin is brought up everyone is quick to say "oh man did you put that thing in the crock pot? it's so good". it's only experienced people who say "oh man i hope you didn't put that in the crock pot"

I'm honestly too lazy to brown meat before throwing it into the crock pot usually. Crock pots are for when I want to do the most minimal amount of cooking possible
