okay I know this is going out on a limb, but I am pretty good with computers but my undergrad degree and my masters degree are not in the computer field. I am laid off at my present job at the end of this year and would love any and I mean ANY job in the Raleigh or RTP area. I am a fast learner as I worked in a finance job and picked up that job quickly. I don't even need anything more than 40K and that is honestly all I am looking for. contract or not. Just a simple 8-5. Anyone please PM me and I can send resume and linked inn. Doesn't hurt to try right? Thanks everyone.
9/25/2012 9:46:53 PM
really?! not one person out here has any leads on even a cheap paying tech job for someone with minimal experience in that field? I am asking about 20K less than what most make!
10/2/2012 1:02:41 AM
Those jobs are pretty plentiful. Have you checked Craigslist?
10/2/2012 1:52:10 AM
Red Hat has had a lot of Technical Support Engineer positions open recently. There's none currently as I think we're tightening our butthole, but just keep checking. And by butthole I mean something something something earnings something something pursestrings
10/2/2012 1:56:09 AM
What are the links? I would like to check as well on red hat, etc.

Yea and actually I've seen several people here and elsewhere complain about entry level developer positions at 40k. That's definitely on the low end for development, but there are people out there making that with computer science degrees. I've even been offered around 32k by recruiters and told to be grateful for it.By the way, can't one make a shitton in finance?
10/2/2012 7:51:16 PM
People in the bay area that have 2 years experience are asking for $130K. Fucking kids these days...
10/2/2012 11:12:39 PM
yeah, but that won't get them rent for a basic flop-house out there
10/2/2012 11:18:05 PM
I am just looking for a change of scenery. give me 40K and 3 weeks vacation and I am happy. Sorry, I just have been in the finance field for so long / operations in it I am bored. Any suggestions still welcome!
10/2/2012 11:24:16 PM
help desk and software testing sounds like they'd fit the bill. I can't imagine wanting to go either route though
10/2/2012 11:48:40 PM
^^^You can easily make it on way less right out of school even with a place in the city. Rent for a 2 bedroom is $2700 and under $2k for a studio in a good part of town. If you don't mind crack heads out front it can go as low as 1500.$130k is more than $8000 net a month. $2k is only 25% of that.[Edited on October 4, 2012 at 2:58 PM. Reason : a]

with no degree you'll end up imaging computers and desktop support for the rest of your life.I'm a contractor for top fortune 100 company and I can tell you there is NO advancement in the operations/infrastructure IT world. Get a cert, go work for a vendor and specialize in something. Cisco, IBM, Avaya/ATT, Dell, Trace3, etc.

If you are interested in the position, shoot me your information. I'd rather not get into too many details about the company on a public forum (and the company is likely one you have never heard of).

you're going to need to understand when to use relational and not to, as well as distributed and eventually consistent data stores like cassandra and hadoop

11/26/2012 7:41:03 AM
ha, wow I hadn't seen that beforeso yeah very much like that except for all legislation and not just explaining and then done
11/26/2012 1:30:42 PM
Yea, it's a website for explaining rap lyrics, but people have been extrapolating that to an "attribution engine" or whatever.Your mockups just reminded me of it is all. No worries and good luck.
11/26/2012 3:01:02 PM
thanks!
11/26/2012 4:51:32 PM
your website idea would be really useful for internal review of contract language. if you stored the data in key/value pairs (index - word), you could do some neat map reduce and edge-vertex graphing stuff
11/26/2012 5:37:08 PM
I have no idea what you just said but I'll take your word for it! I think it could be helpful in all sorts of ways not tied to legislation (even analyzing the coding itself to get meta) but that's the specific purpose that I'm advancing it for because I've designed very specific citation and legal education features to go along with it. But that's not really a technical specification so it wouldn't prevent the same code from being reused.Somebody send some programmers my way or send this out to them!
