^DJ Hackett? he's the best WR available IMO.
3/17/2008 1:05:22 PM
our last two FA signings have been solid
3/17/2008 1:16:53 PM
brandon marshall would be badass here but i doubt we would go for that with the signing of hackett.marshall's a friggin stud
3/17/2008 1:42:59 PM
I love the Hackett signing, we were gonna have to fill that need with a 3rd-5th round pick. This signing will either help up move up in the 1st for Clady, or move up for an additional (late)2nd round pick which would greatly improve our DT/FS options. Or hell let's do both, just don't trade fucking Peppers. I want to fill holes, not go into rebuilding mode.
3/17/2008 2:05:49 PM
I think Peppers and Ekuban (DL for Broncos) overlapped for a year at UNC. I would say there is a good chance that they are friends, and Ekuban has access to Nugget tickets. Just throwing out the possibility, I just don't see the Panthers trading Peppers for the simple fact that they would lose some fans.
3/17/2008 2:17:25 PM
I shall chose to believe that he was helping Colbert move.
3/17/2008 2:23:25 PM
I can see both sides of the Trade Peppers issue...since his season last year was underwhelming at best, one would be afraid that such a streak of play would continue, and fear would motivate a trade before he underperforms again this year and his value is severely damaged.but of course, he is julius peppers, and maybe last year was a fluke. it'd be terrible to trade him and have him go fucking crazy. I think that's perhaps an even larger fear than Peppers' underperforming.if we could get really good value and were sure that there would be decent play from the other linemen we have, trading him wouldn't be the end of the world. However, in today's NFL trades are dubious at best, so we probably couldn't max value for him. Then again, his contract is soon up. Maybe the Panthers are considering not resigning him? If that's the case, ship him out now before it's too late...*shrug*

3/17/2008 2:36:39 PM
is it bad if i think we are gonna do good this year?
3/17/2008 4:41:19 PM
no, it just means you are in a panthers offseason
3/17/2008 5:14:00 PM
You think its better to keep paying a player who has been playing sub par than to trade him outside of the conference (where you might get someone who excels in a shitty organization)?
3/17/2008 5:37:44 PM
nice. Between hackett and moose I feel like smitty will get at least one year of freedom...but help me out here:besides deAngelo, who else is actually running the ball for us? could he actually be a decent fantasy option as a solo starting RB?
3/17/2008 5:46:20 PM
we have labrandon toefield, we dont need anyone else
3/17/2008 5:49:25 PM
NICK MOTHERFUCKING GOINGS
3/17/2008 6:00:17 PM
Not sure why we assured Hackett the #2 spot, I think Moose can beat him out, haha.
3/17/2008 6:23:06 PM
How is this a bad move? A two year 3.5 mil deal for a good receiver is nothing. Most of his injuries have been freak injuries and it's not like he didn't get a physical before he signed. Injured players just don't sneak through free agency like you sneak weed through an airport. Unless you're the Raiders.
3/17/2008 10:45:15 PM
i just dont get a good feeling about Hackett. i dont know why, i feel like he's one of those guys who is just injury prone (see: Dan morgan). if he can shake that, then i think he might be a pretty decent receiver, but IMO i would see Moose as a #2 ahead of hackett and even that is a stretch. in other news, Chad Johnson is close to demanding a trade
3/19/2008 10:11:25 AM
I'd like to see Moose start also -- Jake already has a rapport with him, and he seems like the perfect compliment to Smith. Plus Hackett just seems like he'd be great in the slot, and it might lower his injury risk ever so slightly. Either way, they're both solid, inexpensive additions. I feel 200x better going into a season with Smitty, Moose, and Hackett than Smitty, Colbert (shudder), Carter (shudder).
3/19/2008 11:20:03 AM
who cares about starting? I am sure that Moose will end up in sets with Hackett as much as he ends up in sets without Hackett. It will be nice to have a 1/2/3 reciever option instead of just a 1/2. You know Jake throws based on his "gut" alot -thus moose will have his chances...
3/19/2008 12:56:48 PM
kevmcd why are you so down on hackett, just cause he tweaked the same ankle a few times last year and only played in 6 games? in 6 games hackett will give you more than carter + colbert will give you in 16
3/19/2008 12:59:14 PM
I like Hackett, but I like the fact that we don't need to spend a mid round draft pick on a WR even more. Hopefully we can use one of those picks to move up for Ryan Clady in the 1st. Or if we take a DE(which I'm against), we will definately want to trade up in the 2nd round, preferably for Carl Nicks.
3/19/2008 1:00:22 PM
Now with Hackett, if the Panthers don't take an offensive linemen first, then they might be the worst franchise in the NFL.
3/19/2008 1:06:03 PM
^in terms of record next year, or just overall incompetence?Panthers recently announced they were going to raise ticket prices 3.5% next season too. This after Richardson said he didn't see a price hike in the cards a few months ago.[Edited on March 19, 2008 at 1:22 PM. Reason : .]

I think I'd cry (good tears) if this were to actually happen on draft dayhttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html
3/19/2008 1:57:00 PM
Clady would be a solid pick. He's got us taking DeJuan Morgan in the second....that'd be bad ass, as I don't think the Panthers have ever had a State guy on the team.
3/19/2008 2:06:13 PM
I heard that running back from Oregon (whose name is slipping my mind right now) had to have some kind of toe surgery and is going to be out until at least like September...how will that affect his draft status? He was about the 3rd rated back in the draft behind McFadden and Felix Jones
3/19/2008 2:29:23 PM
he's still projected in the first round by everyone (he's supposed to be ready for camp)...very unlikely he will fall to our 2nd pick. I was hoping for the same thing when I heard about the surgery. [Edited on March 19, 2008 at 2:31 PM. Reason : Stewart]
3/19/2008 2:31:06 PM
^^his name is Jonathan Stewart from Oregon. I think the guy is injury-prone (might be another Deshaun Foster)
3/19/2008 2:44:08 PM
I wouldn't mind the first 5 picks of Draft Tek's latest mock:RD 1 Rashard Mendenhall RB IllRD 2 Sam Baker OT USCRD 3(a) DaJuan Morgan FS NC StateRD 3(b) Red Bryant DT A&MRD 4 Dexter Jackson WR App St.http://www.drafttek.com/round12008.html[Edited on March 19, 2008 at 3:31 PM. Reason : .]
3/19/2008 3:31:12 PM
no way dajuan falls that farthey have him as the #3 safety in the draft
3/19/2008 3:36:43 PM
^this year safety class is really weak and teams don't usually draft safety high so it's not unconceivable that he will fall that far.
3/19/2008 4:51:49 PM
Yes, but teams still need safeties, whether they're drafted high or not. Wouldn't the fact that this years crop is relatively weak mean Morgan goes higher than he should? I don't see him making it to the Panthers 2nd round pick, much less third.
3/19/2008 5:29:33 PM
Speaking of Morgan, does anyone know how he did at the Pro Day today?
3/19/2008 5:41:49 PM
i dunno, but when i first read the post...in a PANTHERS thread...about MORGAN...i was like "dunno probably got concussed"then i was like oh yeah they were just talking about safeties in the draft
3/19/2008 6:51:34 PM
^^I don't think Morgan did too many "events" pro day, seems like he kept a lot of his numbers from the official combine.
3/19/2008 9:08:34 PM
if he gets drafted by the panthers i'm gonna be like yo remember that time i sent you my work...hook me up with some tickets
3/20/2008 9:03:52 AM

3/20/2008 1:16:26 PM
FUCKING AWESOME
3/20/2008 1:19:15 PM
^^ only if morgan converts to cornerno need to pick him that high if he's gonna play safety after todays signing
3/20/2008 1:19:25 PM
good shit. but holt and morgan play the same S spot. Plus Harris is definitely a starter.^no way they'll draft him as a corner...not with lucas, gamble and marshall....they'll prolly pick him up if he's there in the 3rd.[Edited on March 20, 2008 at 1:20 PM. Reason : .]
3/20/2008 1:19:56 PM
as much as i'd love to sign another wolfpacker, we really dont need him now, especially with a high draft pick
3/20/2008 1:21:49 PM
they'd prolly pick him up for depth if he's available in the 3rd....they're really thin @ saftey.the team is starting to come together nicely....with a good draft we'll be in a good position to win the south.
3/20/2008 1:23:52 PM
so happy to have a holt with my panthers!
3/20/2008 1:43:20 PM
holy shit terrance holt is that guy that played or the rams right?
3/20/2008 2:53:51 PM
nah thats his brother torrywe can't get him he's too good
3/20/2008 2:56:10 PM
oh yeah...i was about to say...ANOTHER fucking wr??? i like us getting a safety but i hate what i read in an article just now:
