^why don't you use your own skis? I've had my own skis for about 10 years now and have never rented since. (except a snowboard). No reason not to use them if you got them. But I also haven't gone skiing some where that required a flight.

the increased fees started recently too.i mentioned earlier, but some of the airlines will wave the fee if you register "sports equipment" 24 hours+ prior to takeoff.

I haven't even heard about this. (haven't flown commercially in probably a year or so, and haven't been in the States since the end of Sept)

^^^^reread my last post. Also, when I went skiing out West last Feb I took my skis and got hit with a $50 charge at the ticket gate (dammit). On my return flight they said I didn't have to pay. Go figure. So next time around I said to hell with it.Any baggage charge isn't worth it when you can go to the mtn and rent new/less than a year old skis for less than $30/day.

Fly southwest. They do not charge you a penny extra for skis.We flew southwest out to denver. There's a direct flight from RDU to DEN. Between my wife and me, we had two ski bags, a boot bag, two large duffel bags, and a carseat. That's 6 checked items. We were charged $0 for extra baggage, even though they "should" have charged us $25 each for the two extra bags. I pretty much refuse to fly anyone else if I can help it.

I just went to sugar last week, snow was complete shit. Most trails, including all black diamonds, are closed. The snow was really really slushy with thin patches of dirt showing in areas. I really thought the snow would have been better by this time of year. Im damn sure not going back until shit is up to par.

^lol..thats why you check the slope conditions and weather reports BEFORE you go.

don't most people have to reserve accommodation if they are staying in anything more than a motel room long ahead of any snow reports?
1/6/2009 9:04:49 PM
Yes.

Is any place within driving distance have any even decent snow? Winterplace or Wintergreen? I know there reports are inflated...A few friends and I were going to try to go somewhere on Friday. Looks like they all will be getting some snow tomorrow night and thursday, but I'm not sure thats gonna be enough.
