reports saying grobe heading there. probably good for us in the long run since his offense always kicks the crap out of us... but bad for the conference since he was keeping wake respectable.
12/5/2007 11:31:34 PM
but will grobe be able to adapt to coaching mildly retarded sec players and not-so-mildly retarded arkansas fans

Just realized this.Grobe going to Arkansas means that the longest-tenured coach in the state for the five I-A schools is Skip Holtz.
12/6/2007 8:42:57 AM
this would be a really dumb move for Grobe IMO. How will he handle the pressure? he hasnt seen pressure like he will once in Hawg Country. He has built a solid program at Wake and has forced them to commit to the football program.if this IS true, i fear Paul Johnson maybe the front runner to take over. It would be a easy transition for him to come in keep the ball running or rolling
12/6/2007 8:59:33 AM
^Yeah, Paul Johnson probably now has his pick of Wake, Georgia Tech, and Duke. He can just sit back and watch the money roll in as a bidding war ensues. More power to him, but I don't like the idea of us having to play against him.
12/6/2007 9:05:48 AM
Grobe has to step up to a bigger name program if he ever wants to be recognized as one of the better coaches in the country. He's done a great job at Wake, but who outside of NC even realizes that? At Arkansas, he'll have chances to prove himself against LSU, Alabama, Auburn, etc. He's got a chance to flame out, but the potential for success is much greater if he succeeds. No matter how well he does at Wake, there's always going to be a glass ceiling.
12/6/2007 9:05:52 AM
It's a shame for Grobe that Darren McFadden won't be back. Just think what he and Felix Jones would bring to Jim Grobe's offense. Felix Jones could leave this year as well, but I'm inclined to think a year under Grobe could really help his draft stock, provided he stays healthy.

12/6/2007 9:31:08 AM
word is Grobe changed his mind...this is starting to get laughable for Arkansas.
12/6/2007 9:58:06 AM
Lol. It's apparently official.

he's probably scared of failure, smart move.

12/6/2007 10:19:29 AM
weaksaucecan't be afraid to fail. that's just terribly sad if that's true. and don't tell me winston-salem is where he wants to be. for that much money, i'll go fail in the SEC for a few years.
12/6/2007 10:24:07 AM
yeah but then his family would have to hear how much of a failure he is, he's afraid of that.

Arkansas football is a snakepit. I'm sure he saw that his staff was well taken-care of.Coaches that have successfully gotten raises out of the Arkansas opening:Butch DavisTommy TubervilleTommy BowdenJim Grobe

they didnt fire him. he left.

just to inform everyone, its over...this thread was made to accompany the one on packpride to get rumors started that Butch may leaveits all been a joke from the start and I was asked on here to start one to help anyone who may have ventured over to be convinced it really was quite the deal.seems that these threads actually were the "unnamed sources" that ESPN and the AP were using to get the rumors that Butch was going to the Hawgs.job well done by those recruited here and at PPhttp://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=178#s=178&f=2515&t=1598579&p=1 just for laughs
12/6/2007 10:36:19 AM
^ So because of an NC State fan's joke, the state of North Carolina government is paying Butch Davis $291,000 more per year on an invented rumor?I always thought I might have done this. I kinda started a rumor that Bob Knight was going to become the new NC State head coach in early 2001. Two weeks later, I heard it on the radio.

^^While Lavin was clearly the worst, it appeared as though he either didn't have a solid offer (b/c we were negotiating with Beilein at the same time), or he had an offer and we pulled it after he went public. He is a terrible coach, and we shouldn't have considered him in the first place. He has a huge ego and couldn't keep his mouth shut, but he never actually turned us down.

Does Arkansas have any National Championships from back in the day? How many Big 8 championships do they have?Just curious but their situation in searching for a new football coach is similar to ours with basketball it appears...

^ oh snapGrobe is a great coach. Everyone knows that. Louisville fans were drooling over him after the Orange Bowl and when Petrino left.

12/6/2007 7:02:41 PM
damn, nvm, i guess we will still have to deal with wake forest

12/6/2007 10:10:53 PM
Who's their next target? He's gotta be a highschool coach at this point. Everyone else has a raise already.
12/6/2007 11:26:23 PM
I really don't think Grobe used Arkansas to get a raise, I think he was going to sign until he got that phone call from Wake, but I don't think in any way he was expecting it or looking for it to happen

I intend to keep this thread alive until signing day or Arkansas has had a coach for a couple weeks, whichever comes first.
