She was divorcing the republican senate candidate, Jack Ryan, when it came out in the proceedings that he had tried to take her to a public sex S&M club and she refused (prude).

Thus, Jack Ryan dropped out of the race, Alan Keyes ran in his place, and Obama won the easiest senate campaign ever."

true, but i don't think i would go so far as to say she's the reason, i mean really, if you were married to her why would you go to a public sex S&M club? or anything along those lines.

Because the only thing better than being married to a super hottie is being married to a super hottie who does whatever you want her to.

I'll probably go watch it again this weekend. Tuesday I was packed in with a bunch of coworkers who just wanted to get out of work for half the day.

I thought it was great. I would see it again tommorrow. I think you have to be a trek fan to fully appreciate a lot of the banter, but it was pretty damn good.

Is it just me, or did they have some pretty damn cool scenes/shots of the enterprise? Well done

again, that was awesome. i'm glad there were enough people in the audience to laugh at all the TOS character references. When Nimoy came out, audience started clapping. Simon Pegg did an awesome job as Scotty. McCoy and Spocks interchanges were great too.

I think we maybe wanna wait till a new page to start spoilers, but I'll just say i really enjoyed it. You definitely dont need to be a nerd to get into it, but then if you are a nerd there are plenty of little touches that are welcome.

However if I had to pick a genre for it I'd say its action, and not so much sci-fi. The plot is not super complex which I imagine is a way to make it more accessable to the average viewer. Its really unfortunate that true science fiction has so much time breaking into the mainstream, but perhapse this film can be used as a stepping stone to get more people interested.

the nerd laughter made the movie pretty fun for me, I brought two friends who knew very little about star trek, they enjoyed the movie but didn't understand why people where laughing SO hard at some things though.

god threshold was so fucking terrible, voyager did have one good season (four) and some parts of two were ok, with a few good episodes scattered about, mostly all the two parters

10/10, will watch again many times

McCoy was my favorite, dead on what the character is supposed to be like. Scotty finished a close second.

I really enjoyed Zachary Quinto as Spock, however, I didn't see much difference between Spock and Sylar except for the pointy ears. I still think he's a good actor but he doesn't have much range...maybe he's doomed to be typecast as emotionally confused and shut out for his entire career.

Chekhov was the only character that annoyed me... Uhura was hot. I looked her up on IMDB and the actress playing her is 31, to my surprise.

I didn't find Chekov that annoying, if you listen to the original his accent really almost is that terrible...and there are no v's in Russian. I'm glad they didn't do too much with him though.

I think it had a good mix of inside jokes but enough to keep non-Trek folks amused.

I said probably a little too loudly when they were getting read to do the Halo drop "Awesome, that guy is wearing red"

i thought it was pretty good

the oval premise of the movie (who the bad guy is and why he's doing it) was a little bland... but maybe that's a good thing, I don't know)

my friend hated it, but he's got a strong amount of the choosy nerd in him

I thought Nero was done really well. He wasn't just evil for no reason, he had a purpose. I was really worried when everyone in here started talking about how there would be a lot of time travel, but it turned out to be pretty awesome. I also didn't think I would like Leonard Nemoy and having Old Spock in there, but I enjoyed that.

so this MINER just so happens to be able to turn into a psychopathic revenge seeking maniac?

i mean, how does that happen?

THEY DESTROYED THE FUCKING PLANET VULCAN!

this clearly blows the entire star trek universe canon into oblivion.

god dammit but it was still a good movie.

How will these two alternate realities be integrated?

^^^ Are you kidding?

I thought they explained it very plainly. It's an Alternate Timeline.

I was worried how they were going to eliminate paradoxes and fix everything/bring back Vulcan, but they sidestepped that. This movie isn't a prequel to TOS, it's the beginning of an alternate sequence of events.

They can do whatever they want in Star Trek 2 and it won't matter anymore because they've already explained how the events can be different than the original movies.

They could kill off Kirk instead of Spock and it wouldn't break canon.

Genius.

no, I understand completely what an alternate timeline is... i'm just wondering if the "real" timeline still exists, if they will come back together, or what.

I wonder if this alternate timeline has a counterpart mirror universe?
